Arheološki vestnik 70, 2019, 353–380 353 Poselitev doline reke Solbe v pozni bronasti in starejši železni dobi – nove raziskave graškega Joanneuma Settlements in the Sulm River valley during the Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age – new research of the Universalmuseum Joanneum, Graz Marko MELE (prispevek / contribution: Branko Mušič, Barbara Horn) Izvleček Najdišče Kleinklein pri Großkleinu z okolico v dolini reke Solbe (Sulm) je že skoraj 175 let sinonim za eno najslav- nejših najdišč iz starejše železne dobe v Evropi. Ključne besede: Štajerska, Großklein, Kleinklein, Burgstallkogel, Königsberg, starejša železna doba, naselbine, gomile Abstract For almost 175 years, the site Kleinklein near Großklein in the valley of the Sulm River has been synonymous as one of the most famous sites from the Early Iron Age in Europe. The bronze mask and hands, bell-shaped armour, and figural decorated vessels with punctuation are masterpieces of the archaeological collection in the Joanneum, which has been conducting diverse research since the very discovery of the site. -

Diese Arbeit wurde von Assoc. Prof. Mag. Dr. Martin Schmid betreut und von Dipl. Ing. Dr. Willi Haas vorbegutachtet. Abstract During the second half of the 20th century, Austria experienced a fundamental transition of its energy regime. Within few years oil replaced the predominant regime of biomass and coal. This change had not only radical impacts on society's production and consumption patterns but most notably on society's relationship to nature. During the post-war modernisation process, nature and landscapes were dramatically transformed by human biophysical activities. However, with growing impacts, this development was increasingly questioned by parts of society and environmental conflicts emerged. The master thesis assembles Austria's environmental conflicts that took place around the transition's material manifestations dams, power plants, infrastructure projects described through the prism of social ecology. A comprehensive review of literature, newspapers and the internet, supplemented by selected experts and contemporary witness interviews, created an extensive list of 108 environmental conflict cases in Austria after World War II. -

Flood Warning System for Western Styrian Catchments – Structure and Case Study
FLOOD WARNING SYSTEM FOR WESTERN STYRIAN CATCHMENTS – STRUCTURE AND CASE STUDY Robert Schatzl1, Maximilian Heilig2 1Amt der Steiermärkischen Landesregierung, Wasserwirtschaftliche Planung und Siedlungswasserwirtschaft, Referat 1 – Hydrographie, Graz, Austria, e-mail: [email protected] 2Oberpetersdorf, Austria, e-mail: [email protected] Abstract: Especially in the summer months, the possibility of flood events in the catchments of the rivers Kainach, Lassnitz and Sulm in Western Styria is very high compared with other parts of Styria. In 1997 a project was initiated with the aim to develop a flood warning system for those catchments, whereas it was planned to use data from the net of telemetric stations (about 30 rainfall stations and gauges) of the hydrographical service as well as weather radar data as input data. At the moment, the system is in function, the link to radar data will be implemented in the next future. In the first part of this report, the structure of the flood warning system is shown, which basically consists of 3 conceptual catchment models (Kainach, Lassnitz, Sulm- Saggau). Each catchment model is based on a rainfall model, a rainfall – runoff model and a flood routing model. The rainfall model calculates the areal precipitation based on the information of about 20 rainfall stations (in future also weather radar information are used) combined with a forecasting tool. In the rainfall – runoff model, the precipitation is transformed into discharge using different methods, where also the influence of seasons (especially summer and winter floods) is considered in the model. The flood routing model is a combination of the “Mehrkaskadenmodell” developed by TU Wien (Gutknecht, 1978; Kresser et. -
