October 26: Paint Party and More at the Buggy Museum 6:30 PM Traci Messinger will be instructing everyone on painting while we enjoy a wine tasting courtesy of Shade Mountain Winery and finger foods. You will leave with a painting of the Heiss Coach Works, the only intact 19th century carriage factory in the United States. Tickets are $40.00 per person, all supplies, wine and food are included. October 27: U.S. Army Field Band Jazz Ambassadors 7:30 PM The official touring big band of the United States Army, the Jazz Ambassadors are acclaimed at home and abroad for their performances of America’s original art form. Their diverse repertoire includes big band, swing, bebop, contemporary jazz, Dixieland and patriotic selections. Admissions to the concert are free, but tickets will be required. October 27-28: Community Arts Center Shows October 27: Paragon Ragtime Orchestra. 7:30 PM This hugely entertaining and talented orchestra is the world’s only year-round professional ensemble re-creating “America’s Original Music,” the syncopated sounds of the silent film era. This group will bring tears of laughter to your eyes as it aces the original scores of -themed silent comedy films in its hilarious “Haunted Hollywood” production. Don a costume and join our pre-concert Halloween party in The Capitol Lounge at 6:15pm! October 28: Tommy James and the Shondells. 7:30 PM Don’t miss this concert of an American rock and roll group whose greatest prominence was in the late 1960s. They had two No. 1 singles in the U.S., “Hanky Panky” (July 1966) and “Crimson and Clover” (February 1969), and also charted twelve other Top 40 hits, including five in the Hot 100’s top ten: “I Think We’re Alone Now”, “Mirage”, “Mony Mony”, “Sweet Cherry Wine”, and “Crystal Blue Persuasion”. October 27-30: Susquehanna University Presents the Addams Family Just in time for Halloween, the weird and wonderful Addams family comes to devilishly delightful life in this musical comedy. In this new tale, Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a normal family. Macabre mayhem is on the menu when the Addams family hosts a dinner for Wednesday’s boyfriend and his parents. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for non-SU students and senior citizens. October 27-November 4: Weis Center for the Performing Arts Events October 27 the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra will be performing Johannes Brahms: Tragic Overture, Op. 81, D minor; Frédéric Chopin: Piano Concerto No. 1, Op. 11, E minor; and Mieczyslaw Weinberg: Symphony No. 4, Op. 61. A minor. October 30 the Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba Company will present a program called "Cuba Vibra!" showcasing its music and dances from the '50s to today, where all the characters, women and men, weave their life stories. Protagonists of precise movement and cadence incalculable: cha-cha-cha, mambo, rumba, conga, bolero, feeling...all the rhythms that vibrate the heart and fill the soul. November 2 Edmar Castaneda, harp virtuoso, performing with his Jazz Trio (on the Campus Theatre Stage). November 4 The Maria Schneider Orchestra performs a Jazz concert. October 28: BU Small Business Development Center offers a Food for Profit- Small Business Workshop Have you ever been told that your favorite homemade , or salsa, is "good enough to sell"? Do you have additional fruit or vegetables from your farm or home garden that you would like to make into a commercial product? Penn State Cooperative Extension's Food for Profit workshop takes you step by step through the information necessary to start and run a small food product business. October 29: Halloween Owls at the Ned Smith Center for Nature and Art Whooooo's coming to this annual tradition? Celebrate Halloween with the Center at its annual Halloween Owls program, which features live owls from Penn State University's Shaver's Creek Environmental Center. Experts on night-time raptors will explore the facts and shatter the myths about these beautiful creatures. Certified bird banders from the Center's Northern Saw-Whet Owl Banding Project will provide owl banding demonstrations and discuss the Center's effort to gather more information on the tiny birds that migrate through Penn's Woods on cold fall nights. October 30: National Theatre Live at the Campus Theatre presents Frankenstein 1:00 PM Childlike in his innocence but grotesque in form, Frankenstein’s bewildered Creature is cast out into a hostile universe by his horror-struck maker. Meeting with cruelty wherever he goes, the friendless Creature, increasingly desperate and vengeful, determines to track down his creator and strike a terrifying deal. October 30: : Scotch-Irish Halloween Celebration at the Dale/Engle/Walker House 1:00-4:00 PM Enjoy games, a pumpkin carving and painting demonstration (a free pumpkin will be given to all children to decorate at home). Try some Irish Barmbrack , a traditional Irish cake, filled with dried mixed fruit, and eaten on holidays (served with root beer and water). There will be a photo-op booth, specially decorated for families to take photos. Guided tours of the house and hearth will be conducted at 2:00 and 3:00 and the wagon shed and milk house will be open. Self-guided tour sheets will be available. October 30-November 19: BVRA Halloween Party, Scarecrow Build-Off, and Parents Night Out Join Buffalo Valley Recreation Authority for a Spooooooktacular fun time at the Masonic Lodge from 5:00- 8:00pm on October 30. This family friendly Halloween event will feature classic fun for children and adults. Everyone is welcome to come in costume, so you can participate in our costume contest. There will be spooky fun games for all ages to participate in, such as Balloon Piñatas, making Spooky Snacks, a variety of games (Halloween Mystery Cauldrons), and face painting! There will be an Outside Movie at the Soldier Park starting around 6:15pm with a showing of the Halloween classic, Hocus Pocus. The event will also feature a popcorn bar with all sorts of delicious toppings! You and your family can customize bags of popcorn to enjoy at our outdoor movie showing. For kids not interested in the movie, games will continue in the masonic lodge. November 4: Stroll through the Arts Start with the Art – and End with the Music at the Stroll through the Arts. Both the visual and the performing arts take center stage in historic downtown Lewisburg. Start with the Art at 6:00 when over 30 artists display their works in shops, studios, and galleries all along five blocks of downtown Market St. that evening. The artists range from painters to potters to jewelers to photographers, and are all from the central Susquehanna Valley region. November 6: Priestley Chapel First Sunday Program: Poetry Reading and Dulcimer Concert 9:30 AM Poetry will be provided by Linda Godfrey. Music for the program will be provided by A. J. Bashore on Appalachian Mountain Dulcimer. Sweet Music, the literal meaning of the name Dulcimer, is what you hear as you listen to the melodic strains Bashore weaves. McGovern Museum and Official Store will be hosting a Halloween costume contest over the next two weekends, Oct. 22-23 and Oct. 29-30, where participants will have the opportunity to win prizes in 10 different categories. Now-November 27: Joseph Priestley House Museum Tours and Heritage Day 1:00-4:00 PM As a National Historic Landmark and National Historic Chemical Landmark, the Joseph Priestley Museum is open on weekend afternoons through the end of November. Tours are conducted at 1, 2 and 3 pm. Tours at other times can be arranged. Don’t miss the Heritage Day on November 6, as re-enactor Ronald Blatchley brings chemistry to life and guides in 18-century costume welcome visitors at the home of renowned chemist, theologian, educator Joseph Priestley. Bucknell University Samek Art Museum Exhibits Now-December 4: Samek Art Museum Exhibit: Tomorrow Never Happens- This exhibition explores queer futurity and the aesthetics of utopia by asking: How are queer communities imagining and working toward a better world? And how do queer theories, artistic practices, and lived experiences influence broader cultural thinking? October 25-February 12: Downtown Gallery Exhibit: Reversal of Fortune – This exhibition of works by Stephanie Rothenberg is a series of interactive robotic gardens and schematic/network drawings that examine the intersection of social media, finance and philanthropy.
