Part of our devotion toward the Eucharist, here at St. Patrick’s has been to carry out Benediction with the on every third Sunday of the month following the 9:15am Mass. Benediction affords us an opportunity to adore the Eucharist and to spend time in ceremony and song before the Sacrament of the Altar. Having this devotion immediately after Mass allows us to see the intrinsic connection between Eucharistic sacrifice (the Holy Mass) and . Wherever there is one, the other be kept in mind as well. In order to be more recollected during Benediction, I have included a brief moment of silence into our practice. The motive for this minor change is that Benediction should include more than just the Eucharistic Blessing with its ceremonies. Benediction ideally includes some act of devotion or time for worship in addition to the Eucharistic blessing. I hope these sixty seconds are able to enrich our monthly benediction without adding significantly to its length of time. After consultation with our finance council, going forward our bulletin has a new format for reporting the collection totals. Previously, the collection totals were listed in comparison with the weekly operating cost of the parish. Now, for greater clarity, the totals alone will be reported each week. In addition, at the end of the month, we will publish our year– to-date collection totals in comparison with our budgeted income. Quarterly, we hope to publish a summary of our budgeted income and expenses versus actual income and expenses. So, we will show collection totals each week, collection “actual versus budget” each month, then income and expenses “actual versus budget” each quarter. Feel free to bring me any questions you might have regarding finances. I’m very grateful to our parish men’s club! This month they assisted in sprucing up our parish gardens. They also assisted in changing the light bulbs in the sanctuary candelabra. With these new bulbs (all generously donated) the light from these ornate fixtures is much softer and resembles real candle light. Please spread the word: our men’s club meets every first Saturday after the 8am Mass. They have time for breakfast and fellowship, a brief spiritual talk, then time for manual labor until we dismiss before lunch. After a request from some parishioners, I will be offering a brief tutorial on how to use the Extraordinary Form hand . These are made by various publishers, but they all have a similar format. If you’d like to learn some tips regarding how you can follow the Mass with a hand missal, please join me in the rectory Sunday, September 15th at 11:30am. Our first step toward forming a parish altar society is a success! Five generous volunteers have agreed to launder our parish linens. This service is a great help to me, but most of all, it allows us to have worthy cloths to care for the concerns of the holy altar. In time, the altar society will serve our parish in looking after all the needs of the sanctuary, such as décor and cleaning. If you’re willing to pitch in, please get in touch with me, or fill out a volunteer form in the narthex. Every effort, large or small, makes a great impact when it is done out of love for Christ. So, join us and dive right in! ~ Fr. O’Brien Prayer
