Greeting

Penitential Act

Brothers and Sisters, let us acknowledge our sins, and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.

I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do, through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault; therefore, I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God.

May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life.

Amen.

Gloria

Collect

Let us pray. God our Father, who by sending into the world the Word of truth and the Spirit of sanctification made known to the human race your wondrous mystery, grant us, we pray, that in professing the true faith, we may acknowledge the Trinity of eternal glory and adore your Unity, powerful in majesty. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.

Amen. The Liturgy of the Word

First Reading Exodus 34:4b-6, 8-9

Early in the morning Moses went up Mount Sinai as the LORD had commanded him, taking along the two stone tablets. Having come down in a cloud, the LORD stood with Moses there and proclaimed his name, "LORD." Thus the LORD passed before him and cried out, "The LORD, the LORD, a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger and rich in kindness and fidelity." Moses at once bowed down to the ground in worship. Then he said, "If I find favor with you, O Lord, do come along in our company. This is indeed a stiff-necked people; yet our wickedness and sins, and receive us as your own." The word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God. Responsorial Psalm

Second Reading 2 Corinthians 13:11-13

Brothers and sisters, rejoice. Mend your ways, encourage one another, agree with one another, live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you. Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the holy ones greet you. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with all of you. The word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

Gospel Acclamation

Gospel John 3:16-18

The Lord be with you. And with your spirit.

A reading from the holy gospel according to John. Glory to you, O Lord.

Jesus said to his disciples: God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. The gospel of the Lord.

Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Homily

Creed

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, (bow) and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Recessional Hymn

With Gratitude

Praise the Lord, for he is good; for his mercy endures forever. I first give thanks to Almighty God who called me, unworthy as I am, to share in the holy priesthood of Jesus Christ. God, in calling a man to the priesthood, initiates, encourages, and supports this call often through His people, many of whom I would like to now sincerely thank.

To their Excellencies, Bishop Thomas J. Tobin and Bishop Robert C. Evans, for accepting me into the Diocese of Providence, my new home, and for your care and great and strong leadership in faith.

To my late parents: even though they both passed away very young, they left a very strong foundation of faith in God and love for Him in me and in my siblings. My parents were the first and the best teachers of faith. They always reminded me and my siblings that whatever you have in the world, if God is not the center of your lives, you have nothing. Worshiping God was most important in their lives. I love you both so much and I think of you and pray for you both every day. I also believe that you are in a better place with our Lord and interceding before God for me and my siblings. May our God, whom you worshipped your whole lives on earth, grant you His eternal happiness.

To my entire family and relatives, especially my brother, Father Joseph Hoan Nguyen; my sister, Sister Mary Hanh Thi Bich Nguyen; my sister, Mrs. Hoa Nguyen; my brother-in-law, Phuong Tran; my nephew and my nieces. You have always been a great example for me in how to serve God faithfully. I love you all.

To all the priests to whom I have been assigned and with whom I have been working. Thank you for your patience, your generosity, and your support. Your love for God and His people are wonderful examples for me to be a humble and holy priest of Christ. I would like to give thanks to the Office of Vocations of the Diocese of Providence, the Office of Vocations of the Diocese of Worcester, and all priests and staff at Saint John’s Seminary in Boston where I have been blessed with excellent mentors and models of priestly joy and great priestly formation. I would like to express my profound gratitude to Father Frank Santilli who found me at Saint Paul's Seminary in Vietnam and brought me here to the USA. You have been supporting and guiding me from the first day in the United State until now. You are the best godfather that I could ask for. May God who has begun the good work in you bring it to fulfillment.

To the parish communities of Saint Philip, my home parish; Saint John Paul II in Pawtucket; Saint Timothy in Warwick; Saints John and Paul in Coventry; Saint Paul in Cranston; Our Lady of Mercy in East Greenwich; Jesus Savior in Newport; and Saint Bernard in Wickford. Your warm welcoming of me, your faith in God and your support of your Church have strengthened my faith and my love for God and His people.

To all and all seminarians for your friendship and support, especially to my classmate-deacons at Saint John's Seminary, soon to be priests. I am so proud to say that the class of 2020 at Saint John’s is the best class ever. I am so blessed to be one of you.

To all my friends, benefactors, and those who have supported me prayerfully and generously during my seminary formation. You are God’s extended hands sent from heaven to help me in many ways. Your generosity will never be forgotten. Be sure that from now on, you will be remembered in my daily prayers and at each Holy Mass which I will offer. May God continue to pour upon you and your families generous blessings. To everyone who assisted in preparation for and in their service of Holy Mass today. You have been playing an important role to make this liturgy so reverent and beautiful. Each of you uses your own gift to serve God and to help us to pray better for you know that our God deserves the best.

May Jesus, the Eternal High Priest, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, our Mother, and all the Saints in heaven, grant you all His true peace and happiness, for by your prayers and sacrifices, you have helped me to the Altar of God.
