It is always good to welcome our friends from the north to Bellslea as it gives us an opportunity to reciprocate the excellent welcome we receive when we travel to Wick. You must have been disappointed with the result against Turriff considering you dominated the game for long spells with Joe Barbour having very little to do?

It's not the first time that this has happened. Too often this season we have dominated games but failed to take our chances and then paid the price by losing the game by the odd goal. We need to start converting chances and killing teams off. This then allows you to approach the later stages differently but as I’ve said too often this year we have not scored when chances have came our way and its cost us valuable wins. That's another game gone by where we have dominated yet failed to win. We as managers all approach games to win them. We all my belt as I felt after that was a lot calmer knowing that have different styles and different thoughts and in I’ve been successful already. As I have already Wednesday night Turriff’s way of playing was successful mentioned we also have another cup final to play and ours was not. however this is in danger of becoming a farce as to when it will be played. I will reserve my comments for now. You have two league matches left starting today with Next year I will be looking to do better in our league the Wick Academy game. I take it you are looking for games. The final table does not lie and we will end up the guys to finish the season with a flourish but that anywhere from 7th to 10th which in my eyes is not good won't be easy against a good Wick side? enough for a club like Fraserburgh. He has added a physical edge to the team but is also comfortable with the ball at his feet and has been known to score some terrific distance strikes.

Has been a regular starter now for the last five seasons and was the supporters' player of the year for his performances in seasons 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2014-15. Was released from Ross County in season 2006/07 and was brought back to Wick Academy by the new manager at that time Peter Budge. Talented young attacking midfielder with good pace and great close ball control. Richard likes nothing better than getting forward and scoring goals. Match Report Vs Nairn county

Press & Journal Scottish Highland Football League, Wednesday 6th April 2016, Nairn County v Fraserburgh, Station Park, Nairn

Fraserburgh took a sensational lead in the second minute when a cross into the Nairn box by Ryan Cowie was cleared to Ryan Christie 30 yards out and he fired an unstoppable bullet past Calum Antell into the top left hand corner of the net. It was almost 2-0 in the fourth minute when Paul Campbell and Marc Dickson combined to set up Michael Rae who saw his shot saved by Antell. Nairn tried to get back into the game and John Cameron’s dangerous cross just evaded Glenn Main.

On 15 minutes Steven Davidson did well to hold up the ball and find Ryan Cowie breaking into the penalty area and his left footed effort was blocked by Antell. Nairn had a chance from a Cameron corner on 16 minutes but Sean Webb headed wide from a good position. A minute later a defence splitting pass by Rae sent Campbell through one on one with Antell but the home keeper did well to save with his legs. The Nairn keeper was the hero again on 19 minutes when he did well to save a dean Cowie effort after Davidson’s cross fell to the Broch midfielder.

On 23 minutes Nairn’s Ross Naismith picked the ball up and turned Russell McBride before shooting at goal which Joe Barbour saved at the expense of a corner. From the resultant set piece Rae cleared the ball off the line after an effort by Pollock. The Broch had another effort on 36 minutes from Dean Cowie’s corner but Willie West could only head straight at Antell.

A minute later Cowie crossed into the Nairn box to Davidson but the young striker couldn’t direct his header on target. Nairn equalised on 38 minutes when the ball found its way to Gregg Main just outside the penalty area and he cracked home a drive high into the net after being allowed acres of space to shoot. Just before the interval Ross Naismith had a chance to shoot but he saw his goal bound effort blocked by Barbour.

Half Time: Nairn County 1-1 Fraserburgh

Michael Morrison replaced Ross Naismith at the start of the second half for Nairn. On 54 minutes the Broch won a free kick for a push on Campbell which Dean Cowie curled just over the bar. A couple of minutes later Rae did well to find Campbell who in turn found Davidson inside the Nairn box and the striker’s effort was well saved by Antell. Aidan Combe then replaced Michael Rae for the visitors after 61 minutes.

The midfielder’s first involvement was to find Dean Cowie 20 yards out and he fired in a shot which was well held by Antell. Midway through the second half Davidson was booked for a robust challenge on Webb. A few minutes later he was replaced by Graham Johnston. Nairn made their second change after 76 minutes with Anthony Wallace coming on for Alan Pollock.

The striker almost made an instant impact when a ball over the Broch defence found the Nairn hitman but he shot straight at Barbour from a good position. A minute later Sam Urquhart raced clear of the Broch defence but inexplicably lashed out at the ball and his shot went high over the bar. With Nairn getting well on top Grant Noble replaced Ryan Christie as the Broch tried to stem the home sides’ attacks.

Nairn replaced John Cameron with Paul Macleod. Gregg Main was then booked for a foul on Noble. With a minute remaining a Nairn attack saw Urquhart pas the ball on to Wallace who found Kenny Mackenzie but Barbour did well to save his effort. The Broch had one last chance when Ryan Cowie’s cross to the back post found Combe but his header fell wide of the target.

Full Time: Nairn County 1-1 Fraserburgh

Nairn County: Calum Antell, Sean Webb, Ross Naismith (Michael Morrison 46), Alan Pollock (Anthony Wallace 76), Gregg Main, Sam Urquhart, Adam Naismith, Calum MacLean, Glenn Main, John Cameron (Paul MacLeod 83), Kenny McKenzie. Subs: Wayne Mackintosh, Andrew Skinner, Dylan Maclean. Scorer: Gregg Main (38)

Sam Mackay - Signed for Academy in September 2009. Sam is a former Scotland schoolboy international, and had 5 seasons with Brora at Dudgeon Park before signing with Deveronvale. A player with an abundance of talent that can play in mid-field or up front, and he has given Academy some great options. Sam is one of the hottest properties in the league and was the Sunday Post Young Player of the year in 2008/09 and repeated the feat in 2009/10. Holds the unique distinction amongst the current crop of SHFL players of having scored for Scotland both at Schoolboy and Semi Professional level. During his spell at Brora he played over 100 matches and became one of a select few who have been handed a captains armband whilst in their teens. Won the Michael McNeill trophy for the goal of the season last year with a sensational free-kick against Clachnacuddin in the Highland League Cup semi-final.

Gary Manson - Consistent player who is now in his 16th season with the club. One of a select band of only 3 players who have over 400 competitive appearances for the club and in season 2011-12 he celebrated his testimonial season. Operates on the left, often as an attacking wing back. Played for Highland Amateur Cup winners Pentland United, and had a spell at Ross County before he came through the Academy U18's to become a regular in the 1st team. Plenty of pace and influential at set pieces. Previously selected for the Highland League North select.

James McLean - Central midfielder signed by manager Gordon Connelly from Halkirk United in January 2016. Played several times as a trialist earlier in the season and caught the eye. A powerful young lad who will be keen to get some game-time before the end of this year’s campaign.

James Pickles - Played in the Orkney Cheese A League for Rendall FC. Initially caught the eye of Academy during a pre -season friendly against Orkney AFA. Scored his first goal for Academy in a 3-0 win in the North of Scotland Cup semi -final against Brora Rangers on the 12th September 2012. James really came onto his game in season 2012-13 and was awarded the Dot McLachlan Trophy for the most improved player. Now a regular in the starting eleven.

David Allan - Ex Caithness United, Ross County youngster who signed for the Club from Elgin City. This talented young Thurso born striker has a tremendous amount of pace which takes him past defenders. Made a big impact 09/10 scoring 28 competitive goals and finishing joint 3rd top scorer in the league. His goal tally also won him the Academy Golden Boot award and the 09/10 supporters' player of the year. Had a quieter spell in 2010/11 with only 10 competitive goals but in season 2013-14 he was Academy's top scorer with 24 competitive goals to his name. Was selected as the Player's player of the year in season 2011/12. Academy fans are hoping for another season where he will once again terrorize opposition defences.

Steven Anderson - Young forward from Lybster signed by Academy at the start of last season. A player with a great turn of speed that plays mainly on the right wing. Had trials with Crystal Palace as a youth. Played summer football for Golspie Stafford AFC and Lybster AFC. Helped Lybster AFC lift the Eain MacKintosh Cup. Has been a great addition to the squad strengthening our attacking options. Already a fans favourite and for his performances last season he picked up the Dot McLachlan trophy for the most improved player.

Alan Hughes - Another product of the successful Caithness United/Wick Academy Youth link up. Alan is the son of Wick Academy Assistant Manager Richard Hughes. Like his dad he is a striker. Alan is a very pacy individual with terrific ball control and an eye for a pass and he has his Dad's prolific eye for goal which was very evident for the Under 17 team where he reached 20 plus goals. Plays summer football with Wick Groats and this year helped them lift the Highland Amateur Cup.

Marc MacGregor - Signed in the summer of 2015. A striker who has come through the Caithness United and Wick Academy youth ranks. Played for CAFA side Staxigoe United. Has had limited opportunities thus far but started against Rothes in October and bagged 4 goals in that game.

Gary Weir - 'Chuckie' is a raw never say die talent with a keen eye for goal. Made his debut at age 15 coming on as a substitute in a North of Scotland Cup tie away to Nairn in January 2003. Coming into his 14th full season with the

Academy senior team and this is his testimonial year. Has scored some vital goals for the Club. Hit the net 15 times in season 2011-12 and in doing so at that time became the club's overall top goal scorer with over 100 competitive goals. He and Richard Macadie are now trading the tag of the Clubs top goal scorer on a monthly basis. With the ball at his feet defenders find him a tricky customer to deal with and in season 2013-14 he was the club's top goal scorer with 23 competitive goals to his name including a record haul of 8 in one match against Fort William in October 2013.

(continued from page 8) if an upset was on the cards, but unfortunately Raith went on to win the game 4–2. Pre-season 2012 saw the club draw with Aberdeen 3–3 Inverness Caledonian Thistle 0- 0. In November 2015 the club won its first piece of silverware since joining the SHFL defeating Nairn County 6-2 in the final of the Menzies Distribution North of Scotland cup.

Fraserburgh started well and a Ryan Cowie corner clipped the top of the bar. Graham Johnston then swung in a dangerous free kick on six minutes which Kevin Main punched clear and when the ball came back into the box Bryan Hay headed it across goal but Marc Dickson was in an offside position.

A minute later Johnston fed Dean Cowie who cut inside and fired a shot which curled away from the goal. The same combination fashioned another chance for the home side on 18 minutes but this time the Broch midfielder’s effort was blocked.

On 19 minutes another Johnston set piece from the left caused panic in the Turriff rearguard and when the ball eventually found its way to Stuart Taylor he saw his effort blocked and cleared to safety. Turriff were not showing much as an attacking force but did eventually have a chance on 23 minutes when a long ball forward found Nicholas Gray who beat Bryan Hay at the edge of the box but couldn’t get his shot on target.

The Broch had a guilt edged chance to take the lead on 26 minutes when Willie West was pulled back in the box by Allen MacKenzie and referee Chris Phillips pointed to the spot. However Main pulled off a good save to keep out

West’s spot kick. West had another chance on 35 minutes when a long ball behind the Turriff defence saw the Broch player advance into the penalty area but he shot tamely straight at Main.

Another long ball forward caused confusion in the Turriff back four on 42 minutes but Dickson could only blaze the ball high over the bar. Just before the break Gray picked the ball up outside the Broch penalty area on the left and cut inside his marker to fire a shot across Joe Barbour and just wide of the goal.

Half Time: Fraserburgh 0-0 Turriff United

The early exchanges at the start of the second half were pretty scrappy with neither team able to create any meaningful chances. That changed on 59 minutes when Russell McBride was harshly penalized for a foul on Leszek Nowosielski and Lewis Davidson stepped up to curl the free kick from 20 yards out into the top left hand corner past Barbour. Turriff almost had a chance to make it 2-0 when Gray had only to slide the ball across to the unmarked David Booth but his weak pass was easily cut out by McBride.

On 72 minutes Gray burst into the Fraserburgh box and fired a shot at goal which was deflected wide for a corner. Two minutes later Ryan Cowie’s free kick from the right wing was headed clear to Johnston and when he returned the ball into the box it eventually found its way to Dickson but his header was straight at Main. Johnston then had a free kick after a foul on West which he fired in but once again main was equal to the task.
