Today we welcome the players, management, officials and supporters of Peterhead to Bellslea for our Pre Season Friendly match.

People may say that any Buchan Derby couldn’t be a friendly but a friendly it is and exactly how it should be. While they two clubs were in the Highland League we were great rivals but that was a friendly rivalry. .

The Marc Lawrence loan of last season shows how the up. That is what testimonials are all about and all two clubs can work together and to be honest the the players at our level deserve everything they get better that Peterhead are doing then we can benefit given the commitment involved in part time from that. It is also good for the area if all the football football. As a club we are happy to see our players clubs were doing well. receive testimonials as reward for staying at the Bellslea. Long may that continue. I am not a great fan of pre-season matches as they are

Your first full season as Fraserburgh manager surely goes down as one of the most successful in the club's history with both Aberdeenshire FA trophies in the boardroom and a good run in the culminating with the match at Falkirk. What were your highlights and what will you be looking to improve in the coming season?

You have to say that both of the cup wins have got to be the highlights. We are labelled a cup team but I have said it before, how can that be a bad thing. If we are consistently challenging for trophies then I will take that every time. For me personally, the best I have felt whilst been manager of this club is that few minutes after Mark Lawrence scored against You have a busy pre season schedule with six Falkirk. Maybe we were a bit naïve or possibly in friendly matches starting today against Peterhead. shock but after that goal went in we had a brief spell How will these games shape things for the season where we thought could this be our day. It was a ahead? surreal moment where we actually thought we had a good chance of getting something from that game. Pre-season is all about getting ready for the first Despite eventually losing 4-1, I would definitely say game of the season. We have done the running and that that feeling when we equalised has to be my now come to a different kind of fitness in match highlight. As for improvements, I think it has to be fitness. These matches will be used to give the our home form. It is very uncharacteristic of us to players plenty game time, but also for us to try drop so many points at home so this season we will different things on the park. It is all about aim to make teams scared of coming to Bellslea experimenting in these games. Yes we will go out to again and make them work very hard if they have a win the game as winning every match is important. chance of leaving with anything. However, we may also look to try things we haven't done before which will stand us in good stead for the You have added a couple of new faces in Jamie 16/17 campaign. Beagrie who Broch fans will know very well and Greg Buchan who joins from Deveronvale. What will Finally a look back at last week and a fantastic both of these players add to the squad and are you turnout for Willie West in his testimonial match, no still looking to bring in a couple more new faces? doubt he will continue to be an important player for the club?

It seems like Jamie Beagrie has been around for ages but he is still young. In my opinion he is up I have told Willie that despite having his testimonial, there as one of the best midfielders in the league on he still has a fair few years ahead o him in this team, his day and I am looking forward to seeing him play so any thoughts of hanging up his boots, I hope are with Dean. I think we will have a very strong midfield long gone. It was a great day for him and thoroughly this season with a great blend of attributes amongst deserved. The crowd turned out too which shows the lads. Jamie is very clever and can read a game. what Willie has meant to them over the years. He plays box to box so I am hoping to see his name Testimonials are no longer as common as they were, on the score sheet quite a few times this season. but here at Fraserburgh, we are lucky where the

Greg is another youngster whom I have known for majority of the players want to stay and play for us. quite a few years. He has a great awareness when Testimonials are our way of saying thank you for on the park and likes to get the ball down and play. your service. Hopefully going forward, we are He just felt he was out in the cold a bit at involved in a lot more testimonial years as we Deveronvale so I decided to take a gamble on him continue to develop players through our youth set up and I am sure it will pay off. I do not intend taking on and of course within the first team board anymore players, however if the right player comes along whom I think could improve my squad Enjoy the forthcoming season then we will pay it very close attention. All the best, Mark.

Fraserburgh and Peterhead have met on numerous occasions over the years with the local rivalry seeing some hectic encounters between the two combatants. Below is a selection of matches from the past which detail the nature of the fixture since it was first played back in September 1910 in the Qualifying Cup which the Broch won 3-1

st th Highland League Cup 1 Round, 14 August 1974 Probably the second most famous result in the Broch’s history after the Dundee Scottish Cup win as the Black and th Whites put the home side to the sword. Wednesday 14 August is one of those dates etched in Broch fans memories. At a rain soaked Recreation Park the Black and Whites gave their deadly rivals a 10-0 hiding in the League Cup!! Hunter opened the scoring on 13 minutes and Duthie made it 2-0 after 26 mins. It was 3-0 with Hunter scoring again and Bowie made it 4 after 34 minutes. Esslemont made it 5 on 39 mins and Noble grabbed a sixth just before half time. The second half was more of the same with Noble making it 7-0 on 50 mins the Bowie scored twice to complete his hat-trick and Make the score 9-0. Fraser completed the rout 4 minutes from time to make the final score Peterhead 0-10 Fraserburgh. The teams that night were: Peterhead: Connell, Ewan, Rennie, D. Summers, Sievwright, Coutts, McKenzie, English, Wat son, Cheyne, Beattie. Sub: Cameron. Fraserburgh: Forsyth, Cardno, Newlands, Stephen, McCann, Duthie, Fraser, Noble, Esslemont, Hunter, Bowie. Subs: Gammack, Sharp.

th Aberdeenshire Shield Final, 27 November 1996 This match goes down as the greatest comeback that many Broch fans will remember in all their years of watching the side. Having beaten Huntly 2-1 in the semi final thanks to a winner by 17 year old Russell McBride, the Black and Whites faced off against their bitter rivals at Allan Park, Cove. Colin Milne gave the Blue Toon the lead on 29 minutes and the same player doubled the lead on 59 minutes. It looked all over when Clark Killoh deflected a shot past Billy Gordon to make it 3-0 with just 17 minutes remaining and Kris Hunter’s goal shortly after looked to be a consolation. But as the th clock ticked towards the 90 minute Michael Stephen crashed home a free kick and Peterhead were rocking. Into stoppage time and the aforementioned McBride made it 3-3 to take the tie to extra time. The Broch players were chappin at the bit to get started as the Peterhead players were standing about looking at each other in disbelief. It took only two minutes for the Broch to score through McBride and then made it 5-3 four minutes later. Hunter put the icing on the cake to make the final score Fraserburgh 6-3 Peterhead. The teams that night were: Fraserburgh: Gordon, Young, Michie, Clark, A. Stephen, Geddes, McCafferty, Murray, Killoh, Hunter, Milne. Subs: Norris, M. Stephen, McBride. Peterhead: Pirie, McCredie, Cormack, King, Simpson, Bridgeford, McKenzie, Yule, Milne, Brown, Smith. Subs: Rattray, Beadie, Robertson. Referee: Alan Freeland

Aberdeenshire Cup Final, 29th March 1997 This is a special match for a couple of reasons as it would be the last ever final at the old Recreation Park in Peterhead as the club were moving to the newly built Balmoor Stadium and the Broch would have both Aberdeenshire FA trophies in their boardroom just as they have now. The Broch had beaten Huntly 2-1 at the Bellslea in the semi final with Russell McBride notching both goals. Their was a huge crowd inside the ground and the Broch took the lead in 16 minutes through James Geddes but a double from Colin Milne on 16 and 26 minutes had the home side ahead at the interval. Ian Murray squared matters three minutes after the break and the introduction of Paul Keith changed the game. The ball broke to the Broch striker outside the box and he cracked a volley past the Peterhead keeper into the top corner to take the Cup back to the Broch for the first time in 21 years. Final score Peterhead 2-3 Fraserburgh. The Fraserburgh team was – Gordon, Milne, Michie, Clark, A. Stephen, Killoh, Geddes, Murray, McBride, Hunter, Thomson. Subs: P. Keith, McCafferty, Young.

Scottish Qualifying Cup (North) Final, 8th November 1997 The Peterhead fans amongst the support today will never tire of remembering this match whilst it is a day that all Broch fans who were at Huntly will want to forget. The weather was foul for a start with the rain hammering down all day long. Yule had Peterhead in front on 4 minutes and before the Broch knew what had hit them Milne doubled the lead on 8 minutes. The same player made it 3-0 six minutes later and Smith scored a double on 22 and 45 minutes to make the half time score Peterhead 5 Fraserburgh 0. There was to be no special comeback in this game as the Blue Toon turned the screw, Clark made it 6-0 and further goals from Paterson and Cormack made it 8. Final score Peterhead 8 Fraserburgh 0 . The teams that afternoon were – Peterhead: Pirie, Clark, Cheyne, King, Simpson, Yule, Smith, Paterson, Milne, Brown, Livingstone. Subs: McKenzie, Cormack, Baxter. Fraserburgh: Gordon, Milne, Michie, A. Stephen, Geddes, McBride, Norris, Murray, Keith, Hunter, M. Stephen. Subs: McCafferty, Killoh, Wemyss. Referee: W Young, Clarkston.

Overall the clubs have met on 267 occasions in a competitive match. The series record stand at Peterhead 125 wins, Fraserburgh 92 wins and 50 matches have been drawn. Sadly the derby matches are confined to friendlies or testimonials now apart from the odd Aberdeenshire Cup or Shield match but I’m sure that today’s fixture will have plenty goals and incidents for both sets of supporters to talk about on their way home.
