CCHHAAIIRRMMAANNSS WWEELLCCOOMMEE Tonight we welcome the management, players, officials and supporters of Deveronvale FC to Bellslea Park for our Evening

Express Aberdeenshire Cup tie.

As holders of the famous old trophy we are especially keen to make sure we can make a successful defence and keep the cup in the Bellslea boardroom. That will be a difficult task given we host our bogey side tonight.

st We were fortunate enough to get a bye in the 1 Round while and there were ruts and divots everywhere. It is good that the Vale had to overcome the students of Aberdeen University Rothes have been saved from extension and hopefully things and by all accounts managed that with ease. improve for them both on and off the pitch but an improvement to the playing surface can only benefit the There is no need to tell you that games between the Broch and players of Rothes. They are far better than the 11-0 they the Vale are high tempo rousing affairs and I expect nothing less got at Brora and are a very young side which hopefully stick tonight. We met a couple of weeks back up at Banff and came together and improve together as a unit. back with a point which to be fair is more than we normally come away with but we felt at half time we were so far ahead It was again pleasing to see a couple of our young players that we should have had all three points wrapped up by then. making their first team debuts last week at Rothes. Bruce

Mair and Bailey Simpson have been excellent for our U17 Our two games since then against Lossiemouth and Rothes side and it is just reward to see them break into the first finished with a defeat and a victory despite dominating both team. We have some cracking players in our youth team and games. The Lossie one was disappointing as again we were so I strongly recommend you come along to some of our U17 & far ahead at half time but we had only one goal to show for it. U20 (Aberdeenshire League) games to see the future players These things happen in football but we are making plenty of the club. chances but not taking them. That will change and our luck will improve in front of goal. Tonight’s match is played to a finish and it wouldn’t be a surprise if we are taking penalties at 10.15 after stalemate Rothes on Saturday was one of those games where we were on a over 120 minutes. I do hope I am wrong and it is the Broch hiding to nothing. They had shipped 11 goals the previous week who are successful over 90 minutes but a win on penalties I to Brora and with the off field troubles they had leading up to would take now. the game it was a case of everyone expecting us roll up and win by a barrow load of goals. I thought we played very well on Come awa the Broch what was one of the worst playing surfaces I have seen in

Highland League football. It was actually bordering on Finlay dangerous. The grass was long enough to hide the player’s boots

Against Lossiemouth you created enough chances in the first half to win the game comfortably. How disappointing was it to concede two cheap goals and end up with nothing?

We have no excuses for the performance against Lossiemouth.

I will not accept that kind of performance especially at home.

I demand more from the players and I told them that. Looking back, I feel like it was very similar to the Vale game. We again controlled the first half and like you say should have been up 3 or 4. A one goal lead is always dangerous and the second half proved it in that we again let our lead slip. We simply did not turn up in the second half which again is not characteristic of a Broch team. Looking back we should have had 6 out of 6 but instead only got one point so that in itself was disappointing. But the game is over and we can not change it so we move forward and try harder to improve. I still have faith in the squad and know that this will not happen again. Once we got the 2 goal lead, I felt we were comfortable enough to give the guys their debut and give them credit they The Rothes match was always going to be tough on a did not alter the game one bit. They applied themselves the difficult pitch but how pleasing was it to get a win? way I had asked and produced very good debuts. I have my eye on a few of the under 17's team as I feel they have great I felt sorry for Rothes as they were in a bad way off the park. potential but it will all come down to their attitudes. All of their attentions last week were towards keeping the Technically they are good enough but it will come down to club alive so it is understandable that preparations for the how they apply themselves and how much they want it. I have weekend game fell away a bit. Yes the park was not ideal but asked Alex Mair to look after the youth and make sure that teams need to adapt to the conditions. We knew that the best they are taught the correct way so that the progress as much way to get a result was to play the ball forward as quick as as possible and hopefully become regular Broch player one possible and I think we did that. Ideally I like to keep day. They are a great squad so as you would expect the future possession and work openings but with the park the way it was looks like it will continue to be bright for Fraserburgh FC. I knew that we couldn’t do that so I told the guys to get it in to the strikers as soon as they could and support them from Turning your thoughts to tonight's game how important is it there. I stressed that we needed a win and that nothing else to progress in the cup competitions? was acceptable. Our confidence going in to the game was not great so to come away with a 3-1 win away from home, I will Everyone is in football to win trophies, or at least they should take that every time. be. There is nothing better than winning cups or shields as the occasions alone are to savour. We are the current holders of In that game you blooded two youngsters, Bailey Simpson the cup so it gives us an added incentive, to hold on to it and and Bruce Mair, what can we expect from them and the keep it at Bellslea for another season. We are under no other youngsters coming through? illusions of how tough this game will be as we have already played Vale and drawn so it will again be difficult. We are at The squad was thin due to injuries and work commitments so I home this time and let our fans and club down the last home asked these guys up for cover initially. They were involved in game we played, so we have something to prove tonight and a couple of pre season friendlies and showed up well so I had hopefully we deliver and progress in to the next round. no hesitations in taking them with us.
