JOB DESCRIPTION: Intercultural Mission Enabler

Role Purpose The Intercultural Mission Enabler is a key and important new role to help the : • Grow Healthy church communities that more fully represent the wide ethnic and cultural make up of people living across the Diocese. • Increase the number of UKME/GMH vocations (lay and ordained). • Enable learning opportunities on Race Awareness to be accessed across the diocese. • Working with a number of churches in highly ethnic diverse communities to facilitate greater ethnic diversity in the local church as worshippers and in leadership.

• Identifying and making available resources, learning and good practice across the diocese regarding culture and diversity.

• As a member of the RESG, Contribute its thinking, strategy and realisation across the Diocese.

• Help in the development of increasing of UKME/GMH ordained and lay vocations. Context and opportunities

The Diocese of Coventry is committed to a bold and imaginative Mission and Growth Strategy, building on our ‘Whole Diocese’ approach, which sees the diocese as including Churches and worshipping communities, Cathedral, Schools and Chaplaincies. The diocese is committed to numerical and spiritual growth, and as part of this is seeking to develop 150 new worshipping communities in the next ten years, as well as continuing to promote spiritual

The growth strategy will be significantly resourced by fostering more vocations, innovative ‘mission led’ deployment of clergy and licensed lay ministers, the development of local mission and ministry teams and investing in training resources (including online mission and ministry learning resources via the Equip online learning platform).

The post-holder will be line managed by the Director of Ministry and Leadership and sits within the Mission and Discipleship Team.

The post holder will be employed by the Coventry Diocesan Board of Finance Limited.

Main Activities and Responsibilities:

• Working with a number of churches in highly ethnic diverse communities to facilitate greater ethnic diversity in the local church as worshippers and in leadership. o Engaging with parishes/ churches in highly ethnic diverse communities to facilitate: ▪ Listening, learning and engagement with wider community. ▪ Exploring a church in a multi-ethnic community can serve the wider community. ▪ Build relationships with other faith groups. ▪ Develop a culturally sensitive approach to worship, invitation to explore faith and discipleship. ▪ Work with PCCs and congregations to enable development of ministry and leadership diversity at local, deanery and diocesan levels. ▪ The job holder will work in partnership with schools, chaplaincies and the cathedral in terms of learning from their experience of diverse communities and sharing best practice.

• Identifying resources, learning and good practice across the diocese regarding culture and diversity. o Promote and facilitate Amazing Grace learning communities via RESG. o Promote and facilitate the use of Race Awareness audits across the diocese via RESG. o Help identify and promote best practice regarding intercultural mission and diversity.

• As a member of the RESG, Contribute its thinking, strategy and realisation across the Diocese. Provide advice /resource as requested by the (Chair of RESG) on development of RESG priorities.

• Help in the development of increasing of UKME/GMH ordained and lay vocations. o Working with Director of Ministry and Leader Development, Lead Diocesan Vocations Adviser & Director of Ordinands, ADDO s and Vocations advisors. o Advisory work to the Bishop of Warwick as Sponsoring Bishop. • Undertake such other reasonable duties as may be required by the Archdeacon Missioner, Director of Ministry and Leadership, Diocesan Secretary, the , the Bishop of Warwick. • Promote equality, diversity and inclusion in employment practices and leadership relationships, and role model inclusive behaviours in accordance with supporting the diocese to uphold principles and practices of equality of opportunity, as detailed in its strategies and policies, and in accordance with its legal obligations and theological values. A demonstrable understanding and commitment to the Mission of the , being called to proclaim afresh the Christian Faith in each generation is essential. It is therefore an Occupational Requirement (Schedule 9 part 1 of the Equality Act 2010) of this post to have a committed Christian faith.

The post holder will have a fully equipped workstation within the Diocesan offices. The nature of the post will require work to be undertaken in locations around the Diocese. Some meetings and training events will take place during evenings and weekends, for which time off in lieu will need to be taken. The post holder will be expected to work within the terms and conditions operated by the Diocesan Board of Finance.

Monitoring and Evaluation

The post holder will participate in reviews of progress every 6 months and an annual review as a member of Diocesan Staff.
