5 Pedestrian Plaza Mock Up Police Line • Convert 500 m stretch into a one way pedestrian street plaza. • Traffic to move in a circular movement. • Width of Pedestrian plaza to be about 12 m. D.P.Road • One way carriage way reduced to 7 m. • Parking space to be given on parallel road. • A walkway to be created adjoining the two streets. • A footfall of 7000+ citizens visited. • Kids with Cycles roamed freely. • Elder and the disabled enjoyed the space. • Udaan – Battery operated 3-wheelers provided free transportation option. 6 7 Plan ran into trouble….

• A complaint of Heavy traffic jam from residents staying around the area. • Shopkeepers complained of Parking woes. • The Street was only 25% filled up during the Day. • One way created mobility problems for residents, especially Hospitals.

8 Back to the tables and a Citizen dialogue initiated… March,2017.

9 Suggestions that came up…. • Two way street design to be adopted. • Parking to be provided. Parking has been increased from 30% to 60%. • Original existing width of the Road was 24 m. • In the new DP, the proposed road width is 30 m. Hence, Corporators asked PMC to modify design to 30 m. • Citizens whole heartedly gave away their land. • Hon City Engineer in one of the visits instructed to appeal to the shop keepers to hand over their setback area for development as per footpath design so that the road looks uniform throughout. The Shopkeepers agreed and gave away their setback area, Hence the width of the final Road now ground has gone up from 24 m to 30 m to 36 m at places. 10 Construction of Phase 1 of 500 m Stretch out of 1.5 km began on April,01,2017…. All Utility lines like Water, Drainage, SWM, Gas pipes, OFC were newly laid….
