On Screen Restrictions

Avoid having astons, graphics or written words in the top left or right of screen as these may clash with the Digitally Originated Graphic (DOG) or with the ‘Press Red’ flag or service option tags for Interactive services.

DOGs are used extensively on BBC Three, BBC Four, CBeebies and the CBBC channel to identify the channels and to brand some programmes.

DOG

 The DOG is normally the channel name or logo and will be in the top left of the screen. It will be added on transmission on the edge of the 4:3 safe picture area.  On BBC Three, BBC Four, CBeebies and the CBBC channel there will be at least one DOG on screen throughout the transmission of the show (with the exception of movies and performance on BBC Four and only in exceptional circumstances on BBC Three)

 On BBC Three (in special circumstances such as a theme night) an extra event specific DOG may be generated. They will be placed in the top left of screen under the BBC Three DOG on the edge of the 4x3 safe action area.

 On CBBC all programmes must avoid using the top left and top right corners due to channel DOGs and interactive triggers.
