Toronto Sounds is Irwin's Toronto-based quartet that got its start back in January 2019. The members are comprised of Ewen Fancombe on piano, Ben Dwyer on bass, Davide Corazza on drums and Irwin Hall on saxophone. The group met for the first time at a weekend residency at the Jazz Bistro in Toronto for a show organized by the Great Connector, Jerry Gain. The manager of the club, Sybil Walker, contacted Ewen who called some friends and lo and behold a band was born! The quartet did one rehearsal before the show and hopped on stage in front of a packed house. The chemistry was instantaneous, leaving the crowd tapping their feet and shouting praises from their seats. Everyone in the room knew they were onto something. The band was promptly invited back for two more residencies at the club and got the idea to take the project on the road. Playing a repertoire of classics from the Great American Songbook reinterpreted in Irwin's signature style as well as original music and swinging deep cuts, the band recently recorded their first album: Irwin Hall's Toronto Sounds: Live from the Jazz Bistro to be released in 2020.
