May 8th: Seventh Sunday of Easter

FROM THE PASTOR…

Dear Parishioners,

A woman with children once described motherhood as a “fun house” of tantrums, fatigue and sticky fingers.

Their freak-outs, she admits, can split the atom: won’t eat, won’t sleep!

Her tiredness is such that she blissfully welcomed her dental appointments as chances to es- cape: ah, to be alone for 40 minutes having her teeth scraped!

She couldn’t believe some of the things her small children were terrified of: coconuts, Shrek, self-flushing toilets.

She can catalog all the illnesses, both traditional and novel, that her offspring picked up, and she has a medicine cabinet of so much stuff that it could easily qualify as a museum.

Yet, despite the adversity, she has a natural urge to boast: they are mine.

Today we salute Moms who, in the midst of the catastrophes and messiness, find deep joy and fulfillment in their crucial role.

And we ponder the wise observation of a church sign Donna Waldeyer once saw:

IF EVOLUTION IS TRUE, HOW COME MOTHERS STILL HAVE ONLY TWO HANDS? -Father Jerry Jecewiz
