Program Summary: The Jacksonville Commitment will provide, but not be limited to the following services: . Initial college placement screening of youth referrals- Provide a scholarship program that ensures every Duval County 12th grader who is qualified by income and meets certain minimum academic standards is able to attend a local college. . Writing, revising and implementing the Jacksonville Commitment curriculum to include research based outcomes and activities designed to create a college going culture in phase I schools, engage students and families, and involve faculty, staff and other college access program coordinators. . Completing reporting and financial requirements . Tracking student progress . Provide college retention services Program Overall Status: The first of our three Summer Conferences was held at UNF for rising 9th and 10th grade students. Each postsecondary partner is making preparations to receive a new class of scholars while preparing to celebrate the first class of 4 year graduates. Successes: To date, we have received 620 scholarship applications for the coming academic year. UNF funds students in their first Summer term if they complete all of the eligibility requirements so the first 30 JC Scholars for the 11-12 year have already attended their first college class. FSCJ celebrated the graduation of another of its first class of students, a Raines graduate of 2008. Challenges: Participation for the first Summer Conference was very poor (9 students). We were unable to attract any rising 9th grade students and we received several cancellations from students who were required to attend summer school. The uncertain future of Raines and Ribault was a prevalent theme as we talked to students and parents about the benefits of participating in the Precollegiate Scholars programs and activities.
