Wolf Children
PRESENTS WOLF CHILDREN A MAMORU HOSODA FILM Running time: 117 minutes Certificate: TBC Opens at UK cinemas on 25th October Press Contacts Elle McAtamney – [email protected] For hi-res images/production notes and more, go to – www.fetch.fm To the children, a movie like a delightful, fun fairy tale… To the youth, to make raising children, which they have yet to experience, seem full of surprises and wonder… And to the parents, to let them reminisce about their children’s growth… I am striving to make an invigorating movie that satisfies the principles of entertainment. Mamoru Hosoda Director, screenwriter, author of original story INTRODUCTION The long-awaited new film by Director Mamoru Hosoda! Yet another movie that enthralls people of all generations!! In “The Girl Who Leapt Through Time” (2006), he depicted the radiance of youth in flashing moments of life. In “SUMMER WARS” (2009), he told a story about a miracle, of how the bond between people saved Earth’s crisis, and the film swept awards domestic and abroad. Mamoru Hosoda has become the most noted animation director in the world. Why do his works appeal to people of all generations? His stories are not about the extraordinary, and they are not about superheroes. Set in towns that could really exist, the main characters are surrounded by ordinary people and are troubled by slightly unique circumstances, which they struggle to overcome. Based on well-thought-out scenarios, these real-to-life stories are made into dynamic animation. That’s why the main characters seem so familiar to us and draw our sympathy, and we get excited watching how they fare. -

Rewiring the Text
Rewiring the Text: Adaptation and Translation in the Digital Heterogossia. Richard Berger. A thesis in partial fulfilment of the requirements of Bournemouth University for the degree of Philosophy Doctorate. March 2005. Bournemouth University. Rewiring the Text: Abstract. This dissertation is concerned with adaptation, in the context of new emerging digital media platforms. The project proposes that new media has allowed for the creation of a universal digital heteroglossia; a heteroglossia that contains the plurality of the unstable utterances of cinema, radio, television, the web and computer games. This has allowed for the process of adaptation to become more instantaneous in the simultaneous deployment of narratives across the digital heteroglossia. Therefore, the process of adaptation is far more dialogical, with previous variants of narratives being ‘rewired’ and gaining an ‘afterlife’ through adaptation, and through the creation of new variants and versions. The Internet has allowed for adaptation to move into a participatory mode, where fanfic writers fill in ‘gaps’ left by the creators of televisual and filmic texts. Videogames, based on pre-existing or co-existing texts, mean that players can experience moments of supreme and non-permanent adaptation themselves. This thesis suggests that this participation has democratised adaptation, and has fundamentally altered the nature of ‘traditional’ adaptation. The thesis concludes that, due to a digital heteroglossia, ‘traditional’ adaptation will decline, as the process becomes more plural and instantaneous. With previous variants of narratives being summoned back into life - due to adaptation, remaking and refashioning - it is increasingly unlikely that ‘fidelity’ strategies of adaptation will continue to be the dominant discourse, as all variants of narratives begin to exist in a dialogical plurality with one another; a mutual exchange of fluctuating source and target texts, cross-referenced through intertextuality and assembling a collage of influences. -

Miss Hokusai
PRESENTS Miss Hokusai Opens in UK cinemas on 5th February 2016 Directed by Keiichi Hara | Screenplay by Miho Maruo Running time: 90 minutes Press contact: Elle McAtamney – [email protected] OVERVIEW Katsushika Hokusai is probably one of the most internationally known Japanese artists. His woodblock print series entitled Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji, and The Wave off Kanagawa in particular, are so iconic that can be seen reproduced on t-shirts and coffee mugs in gift shops all around the world. However, perhaps with the exception of a very restricted circle of scholars, very few are aware of the fact that Hokusai had a very talented daughter, named O-Ei, who assisted him until his death. It may therefore come as a surprise that many works commonly ascribed to master Hokusai are in fact very likely to be the result of a father-daughter collaboration, if not entirely done by O-Ei, and were signed by Hokusai simply because his name had greater appeal on the market. Contemporary accounts, mainly from pupils, seem to confirm that Hokusai excelled her father when it came to the portrayal of beautiful women (bijinga), a staple in Japanese art. This was fully recognized by Hokusai himself, and the two shared roles in the creative process. As of today, O-Ei remains one of the most fascinating mysteries in Japanese art, with less than a dozen of works commonly attributed to her, yet all featuring rare artistic talent and acute sensitivity. The unique and free-living character of O-Ei is at the centre of Miss Hokusai, the new animated feature film by Annecy-winning director Keiichi Hara.
