A Comedy of an Unlikely Friendship: Arts Club On Tour Brings Driving Miss Daisy to Coquitlam

COQUITLAM, BC (JANUARY 9, 2014) – This month, Tri-Cities residents have something to get excited about—the Arts Club on Tour production of Driving Miss Daisy is making a stop in Coquitlam at Evergreen Cultural Centre from January 28 – February 1, before opening on the Granville Island stage in mid-February.

The Pulitzer Prize-winning play Driving Miss Daisy follows the charming adventures of a Southern matriarch (Nicola Lipman) and her chauffeur (John Campbell) over a 25-year friendship, and reveals the power of the human heart to overcome prejudices and open up to new possibilities.

The play was written by , and originally opened in New York in 1987. Uhry began his professional career as a lyric writer. Driving Miss Daisy was his first play, and went on to win the Pulitzer Prize in 1988. The original run lasted more than three years and nearly 1,200 performances. The film adaptation, starring and , won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Picture in 1990.

This production of Driving Miss Daisy is directed by Mario Crudo, a graduate of the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and the artistic director for Magnus Theatre in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Crudo was formerly an associate director at the Arts Club.

Driving Miss Daisy will run at Evergreen Cultural Centre in Coquitlam January 28 – February 1, 2014, with shows nightly at 8pm and a matinee Saturday, February 1 at 4pm.
