Theatre Royal Bath Productions presents DRIVING MISS DAISY

Theatre Royal Bath Productions today releases production images for Alfred Uhry’s Driving Miss Daisy, directed by Richard Beecham. The play stars Dame Siân Phillips, Derek Griffiths with Teddy Kempner. Following previews at Theatre Royal Bath from 6 to 9 September, Driving Miss Daisy is now on UK tour with press night on Tuesday 12 September at Richmond Theatre.

Set in , , the story begins one day in 1948 when a prickly, 72-year-old Jewish widow, Daisy Werthan, crashes her car. Deemed too old to drive, her son hires her a chauffeur, an African-American named Hoke Colburn. Daisy and Hoke's relationship gets off to a start, but as times change across the course of a 25 year backdrop of prejudice, inequality and civil unrest, a profound and life-altering friendship blossoms.

From its landmark Off-Broadway production in 1987 to the remarkable success of the 1989 film version, which was the winner of four including Best Picture, Driving Miss Daisy has touched the hearts of millions worldwide.

Siân Phillips (Daisy Werthan) is a BAFTA award-winning actress, known for her numerous film and television roles including I, Claudius (BBC) and Dune. She has also enjoyed an illustrious stage career with credits including a Tony award nominated performance of Marlene (Broadway) and Cabaret (West End).

Derek Griffiths (Hoke Colburn) is an established West End performer with credits including Lumière in the original production of Beauty and the Beast (Dominion Theatre) and the Child Catcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (London Palladium). Derek was most recently seen in the role of Freddie Smith in Coronation Street (ITV).

Teddy Kempner most recently starred in Caroline, Or Change (Chichester Festival Theatre). His other theatre credits include 42nd Street (Theatre Musical de Paris-Chatelet), Dance ‘Til Dawn (West End and UK Tour), High Society (UK Tour). Television credits include Birds of Feather (ITV), Hustle (BBC) and Bad Girls (ITV). ENDS
