When Neon was originally released on Datapunk in 2006, it was a landslide. Being championed by Sven Väth for ages (and being one of the tracks that were the soundtrack to his notorious vocal performance at A1 Time Warp that very year) - it was the track that ultimately cemented Gregor´s status as one of the main representatives for a new breed of Techno producers by inventing a trademark sound that shaped the path to the future. With the original recording being carefully remastered in Ljubljiana by Gregor Zemljic with greatest precision, this new version brings that trademark sound to life once again - or has it ever been away really. On the flipside we have a remix by another notorious heavyweight: Butch! His version, originally sketched not so long after the original came out, takes the melodies of the original track to the B1 housier floors. When Butch sent his version to Gregor a little bit over a year ago it actually established the idea of a re-release. In 1979 the duo met outside a cinema and began a lifelong collaboration of projects: Diamond Dogs, Ice Eyes, Demode Boulevard and Fockewulf 190, named after the model jet planes Dario A1 fanatically built. Musically, the duo were inspired by the Human League’s “Reproduction” and John Foxx’s “Metamatic”, while they took visual cues from the New Romantics Visage and Ultravox. With the Fockewulf 190 moniker, they created their own dark blend of Italo disco and New Wave, and released two singles in 1984 and recorded an album’s worth of music that eventually saw the light of day in 2010.By 1983, local DJ and guitarist Salvatore Nonnis aka Stan After was added to the group. Dark Entries Editions is proud to reissue “Ghost Town” the 1984 debut 12” single by Mono Band from Italy. The project was conceived by producer Rene 'D'Herin and Massimo Fantinatiti aka Fantenax. They teamed A1 up with songwriter and guitarist Luigi Venegoni aka Svengile who had previously worked with progressive and jazz-rock bands Arti & Mestieri and Venegoni & Co. as well as cosmic disco group Stratosferic Band. Treading the lines between Italo Disco and the darker side of New Wave, the trio crafted a mysterious sound. Melancholic arpeggiators, a throbbing baseline, stuttering samples, and the classic Linn drum machine run throughout the track. Vocals were handled by an uncredited Carlo Rossi who raps about a ghost town filled with fear. When female vocalist Elena Sansonetti begins to softly whisper the chorus one B1 might get goose bumps. The trio were joined in the studio by DJ Mike aka Michele Paolino of Make Up/Mike Up, DJ Moody, Fabrice Bellini of Art Fine and producer Miceli. The song was recorded in a few days at Dynamo Sound Studio in Turin and originally released on the popular Discomagic Records

Fantasy Life was a one-off Italo disco studio project that consisted of various producers, songwriters, and vocalists from Turin, Italy. The line-up included Lorenzo Avico, Maurizio Camoletto and Sergio Bergamin. A1 They recorded their only single “Over and Over” at Minirec Studio in 1985 with mixing engineer Gigi Guerrieri. It was released that same year by Thick Record a sublabel of Il Discotto Productions and became one of the most coveted Italo Disco 12”s. “Over and Over” is a parable that describes the story of a girl growing up, comparing her life to the changes of the moon. Signature Linn drum and Simmons drums create the driving rhythm track that hauntingly sways back and forth. The vocal version has a nearly two minute extended instrumental break in the middle of the song heightening the dramatic pace. On the B- B1 side is a Dub Version with extended instrumental breaks, bass lines and occasional vocals. Both songs are remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. His debut EP for us is a three-tracker and absolute quality. Its title ‘Home Away From A1 House’ alludes to a musical career spanning three continents and to the ‘most enlightened circles’, as Snad puts it, ‘who still travel the Silk Roads and who take their underground seriously -- wherever they call home’. What this means becomes apparent quickly as the title track drops us straight into a softly stabby, hypnotic little sequence on top of an elegantly subtle combination of a drum machine groove and synth B1 bass. Things build up patiently with luscious delayed chords before rising strings transport us to a beautiful place where the Goa sun shines onto the streets of Chicago. HOUSE / ACID-HOUSE DEU Part of the current crop of artists spearheading the UK acid revival, Posthuman's output has evolved over A1 the years, encompassing many genres & styles from their early electronica releases, to their later acid & slow-mo techno. Their debut release in 2000 was a series of hand made CDs simply called "Posthuman" (though better known by the colour of the card inserts - grey, black, blue and brown). The duo then went A2 on to host a number of parties in an abandoned underground train station in London between 2001 and 2004, and founded their own label Seed Records (2) with which they released 3 albums and several other releases of their own and other artists material. They also were the first act on Manchester based imprint B1 Skam's SMAK sublabel. Doherty left Seed Records to help relaunch UK techno imprint B12 Records in 2006, and started a new label Balkan Vinyl in 2010. In 2007, Doherty founded London-based acid house retrospective clubnight "I Love Acid", where Posthuman are monthly resident DJs. One of the most busy and consistently excellent producers in all of electronic music is Boris Bunnik, and A1 now he is back under his most loved alias, Conforce, on his most regular home, Delsin. As well as releasing as Versalife, Hexagon and many other monikers, the Dutchman is best known for his serious deep and underwater tracks that are part dub, part ambient and part techno. Opening up this new EP is title track A2 Depth Over Distance. Driven by buried deep kick drums, up top are thin lead lines that leave trails like beams of light as ticking percussion and more widescreen synths flesh out the airwaves. Plateau is less spacious and has more detail in its midst including clacking hits which reverb off into the distance, supple B1 and subtle bass notes and a general sense of aqueous fluidity all characterise this brain soothing bit of music. On the flip, Rendez Vous is more directed at the dancefloor with big drums, cold and edgy chords and gentle acid lashings. It's vast in size and scale once more, and drives along with a sense of muted B2 menace. Finally, Closer is another airy and cavernous bit of ambient music that is sombre and serious

Amsterdam based label Anagram readies label co-founder Sinfol's first solo release in three years entitled A1 'Pull Back'. The release, which features four passionate tracks, sees the light of day in the beginning of April. Since the launch of Anagram three years ago the label has put out a steady flow of releases from artists such as Anetha, Octual, Stefan Vincent, Elad Magdasi and Haze. However, the imprint has also acted as A2 the main platform for Sinfol's own productions. Blurring the line between various subgenres, the Dutch artist is an eclectic one and meanders between acid, house, techno and more. 'Virtue Signalling' is slick techno that A2 mixes up sci-fi sounds with cavernous dub pads. It's cerebral and cinematic as well as being driven by the rubbery drums. 'Black Mesa' is darker, with a meaning synth line coming in spurts over punchy, broken B1 drums. It's grand in architecture but still has plenty of rich sonic details. On the flipside, 'Compulsion' is more watery, with little life forms suspended in a backlit ocean above slippery drums, then 'Alka' is another underwater affair, with beams of light penetrating from above as a dubbed out groove undulates way B2 down deep. Once again then here, Conforce marries form with function in exquisite ways

'Sort Out' opens the EP with powerful distorted Kick A2 drums and percussion opening and teasing you into their path. Back To New Roots (Serotonin Fuelled Jazz Covers) was first released in 2011 by 3iO, a band lead by double bassist Manuel A2 Moretti and including Richard Maggioni on piano and Matteo Giordani on drums. They were veterans on A3 the Italian jazz circuit and put out a couple albums, but they are no more. This album, however, which A4 originally stated as a joke to challenge the musicians to do something different and flip dance, alternative and chill out hits from Fat Boy Slim, Groove Armada, Chemical Brothers, Royskopp, Underworld, Spiller and B1 DJ Shadow into new forms, proves what playing skills the group had.
