Pressemitteilung zu John Garcia & The Band of Gold Der ehemalige Kyuss-Frontmann John Garcia kommt mit The Band of Gold am 20.10.18 ins Uebel & Gefährlich und präsentiert sein Solo-Album Hamburg, April 2018 – Die „Coyote Unplugged“-Tour im April 2017 war ein voller Erfolg, jetzt legt John Garcia nach: Der kalifornische Kultsänger und Mitbegründer des Stoner Rock kündigt neben einem neuen Album auch gleich eine dazugehörige Tour im Oktober 2018 an. Der ehemalige Frontmann von wegbereitenden Bands wie Kyuss, Slo Burn, Unida, Hermano und Vista Chino wird sein komplettes neues Solo-Album plus ein Greatest Hits- Programm in Hamburg am 20.10.18, Uebel & Gefährlich zum Besten geben. Seit über zwei Dekaden setzt John Garcias Stimme den Standard für den Stoner Rock- Sound der kalifornischen Wüste. Sein musikalisches Wirken als Genre-Gründer mit den wegbereitenden Kyuss spricht für sich, auch die Nachfolger Vista Chino, Unida, Slo Burn und Hermano haben seinen Ruf als Ausnahmesänger weiter gefestigt. Dabei ist John Garcia wirklich ein waschechter Wüstensohn: 1970 in Arizona geboren, wuchs er mit seiner allein erziehenden Mutter und zwei Geschwistern rund um Palm Springs/Kalifornien auf. Dort gründete der Doors- und Misfits-Fan Anfang der Neunziger mit Gitarrist Josh Homme (später Queens Of The Stone Age) die Band Kyuss. Mit vier Alben (u.a. der Genre-Meilenstein „Welcome To Sky Valley“, 1994) wurden sie eine der einflussreichsten Stoner Rock-Formationen. Nach dem Ende 1995 versuchte er sich an Projekten wie Slo Burn, Unida oder Hermano, stets unterstützt von einem Umfeld, das in der Alternative Rock-Szene seinesgleichen sucht. 2010 entstand aufgrund großer Nachfrage das Unternehmen ‚Garcia plays Kyuss‘, mit dem er als einziges Originalmitglied tourte.

Pour simplifier à outrance, le néophyte aurait tendance à réduire sa formule à la juxtaposition de la lourdeur extrême de Black Sabbath et du psyché- délisme de Pink Floyd. Une fusion a priori contre-nature qui vient illustrer de manière assez candide l’alliance entre les riffs sur-heavy assénés par les pères fondateurs, et l’idée d’une évasion musicale assumée via le prisme des drogues lysergiques, un terrain qui favo- rise les digressions artistiques, proches du trip et des ambiances envoûtantes ancrées dans le rock populaire des années soixante-dix. En ayant démarré, pour la plupart, dans des groupes punk avec une pratique instrumentale limitée – et par essence aux antipodes de l’académisme des virtuoses habituels –, certains jeunes musi- ciens qui évoluent dans le stoner ne se contentent parfois que de suivre l’héritage des pionniers du desert rock, une scène innovante, spontanée et sans le moindre précédent, strictement circonscrite à son environnement géographique : le désert californien. Si Kyuss restera toujours la référence immuable de cette culture, et que depuis le début des années deux mille les Queens Of The Stone Age – son extension par défaut – sont devenus l’un des plus gros masto- dontes rock de toute une génération, l’amateur et le curieux applau- dissent de concert une vaste sélection d’artistes qui composent eux aussi, à leur façon, cette nébuleuse bien mystérieuse, complètement méconnue du grand public.

"In Ferneaux" explores pain in motion, building audio-spatial chambers of experience and memory. Using an archive of field recordings from a decade of global travels, isolation gave Blanck Mass an opportunity to make connections in a moment when being together is impossible. The record is divided into two long-form journeys that gather the memories of being with now-distant others through the composition of a nostalgic travelogue. The journeys are haunted with the vestiges of voices, places, and sensations. These scenes alternate with the building up and releasing of great aural tension, intensities that emerge from the trauma of a personal grieving process which has perhaps embraced its rage moment. With "In Ferneaux", Blanck Mass wrangles the immanent materials of the here-and-now to build a sense of transcendence. Here, the uncanny angelic hymn sits comfortably beside the dirge. Nies, executive director New England Fishery Management Council 50 Water St., Mill #2 Newburyport, MA 01950 RE: Atlantic Herring Amendment 8 Scoping Comments Dear Mr. Nies: Thank you for the opportunity to comment on this important matter for the Northeast’s marine ecosystem. I support the decision of the New England Fishery Management Council (NEFMC) to explicitly account for Atlantic herring’s unique role as a forage fish in the ecosystem when setting catch limits. Herring is a valuable public resource. I commend the council for regarding this determination as an ecosystem issue and engaging experts in ecosystem-based fisheries management. Although the NEFMC initiated Amendment 8, it is not simply a New England issue. During annual migrations, Atlantic herring journey as far south as North Carolina and as far north as Nova Scotia. Herring has always been an important part of the marine food web throughout its range, but it has become even more vital with the decline of other forage species such as river herring, shad, mackerel, and menhaden. Recent scientific research supports leaving enough forage fish such as herring in the ocean to support not only their own population, but also viable populations of other species that depend on them. Many herring predators are depleted, and keeping enough herring in the ocean would improve the chances of recovery for cod, tuna, whales, and seabirds. I urge the NEFMC to consider alternatives for Amendment 8 that are based on this latest scientific guidance for managing forage fish.
