BLANCK MASS "In Ferneaux" (SACRED SBR267 CD/ LP BLANCK MASS "In Ferneaux (magenta)” (SACRED SBR267LPC1 LP February 26 street date. "In Ferneaux" explores pain in motion, building audio-spatial chambers of experience and memory. Using an archive of field recordings from a decade of global travels, isolation gave Blanck Mass an opportunity to make connections in a moment when being together is impossible. The record is divided into two long-form journeys that gather the memories of being with now-distant others through the composition of a nostalgic travelogue. The journeys are haunted with the vestiges of voices, places, and sensations. These scenes alternate with the building up and releasing of great aural tension, intensities that emerge from the trauma of a personal grieving process which has perhaps embraced its rage moment. With "In Ferneaux", Blanck Mass wrangles the immanent materials of the here-and-now to build a sense of transcendence. Here, the uncanny angelic hymn sits comfortably beside the dirge. The misery and blessing are one. CARCASS "Swansong (digi-FDR audio)” (EARACHE) MOSH160CDFD CD CARCASS "Swansong (FDR audio)" (EARACHE) MOSH160FDR LP January 29 street date. Liverpool's legendary Death Metal pioneers Carcass (who still tour extensively to this day) are often credited with shaping the entire death metal genre, pushing boundaries with their shocking imagery whilst evolving and innovating with each new . "Swansong" is their sixth album, originally released in 1996. DJ MUGGS THE "Dies Occidendum" (SACRED SBR268 LP/ CD BLACK GOAT DJ MUGGS THE "Dies Occidendum (red (SACRED SBR268LPC1 LP BLACK GOAT vinyl)" March 12 street date. "Dies Occidendum" is a mythical voyage across fog-laden, scorched earth terrain from the original friar of dark hip hop, DJ Muggs The Black Goat. Known and revered as the sonic mastermind behind both and his own imprint, here Muggs sheds the MCs and presents his latest dark-soaked productions as an illuminated manuscript of sorts; a fully immersive, instrumental soundtrack to the mysterious "Dies Occidendum". No one wields the Excalibur of sonic darkness quite like Muggs. Combining ingredients of psych rock, gypsy folk with modern elements of trap, forged together under layers of his signature sonic grime, Muggs has created yet another blueprint for the utmost sonic menace and macabre. The Renaissance is upon us. Long live King Muggs. EL MICHELS AFFAIR "Yeti Season" (BIG CROWN) BCR060 LP/ CD EL MICHELS AFFAIR "Yeti Season (clear blue)” (BIG CROWN) BCR060LPC2 LP EL MICHELS AFFAIR "Yeti Season (BIG CROWN) BCR060LPDLXC4 LP (LP+book/red vinyl)" March 26 street date. Fresh off of their 2020 offering "Adult Themes", El Michels Affair is back with a new full- length release. Titled "Yeti Season", this newest album has everything we've come to expect from EMA's patented cinematic style of instrumental . Where "Adult Themes" inspired a soundtrack to an imaginary film, "Yeti Season" brings us to a different place in time - with new inspirations. Taken with Turkish-styled funk and an almost Mumbai-esque take on soul, El Michels Affair offers us a different kind of drama and imagination with "Yeti Season". If you've been following along, this shouldn't be viewed as too far a departure for El Michels Affair. It's a heavy album - as evidenced by the signature musicianship and dramatic vocal expressions. But it's also a hopeful record, with phrasings, textures, and chord changes that hint at something better - or fuller -coming our way. The limited edition deluxe version comes with a 50 page children's book inspired by the album. "Sound Ancestors (MADLIB MMS044 CD/ LP (arranged by Kieran Hebden)" March 5 street date. Gil Evans to .... Holger Czukay to the ensemble known as Can....Jean Claude Vannier to Serge Gainsbourg on "Histoire de Melody Nelson". That's the only way to explain the specificity of Four Tet and Madlib's collaboration, in this special album that showcases a two-decade long friendship that has resulted in an album that follows Madlib's classics like 's "The Unseen", "" and his "Pinata" and "Bandana" with . "A few months ago I completed work on an album with my friend Madlib that we'd been making for the last few years. He is always making loads of music in all sorts of styles and I listening to some of his new beats and studio sessions when I had the idea that it would be great to hear some of these ideas made into a Madlib solo album. Not made into beats for vocalists to use but instead arranged into tracks that could all flow together in an album designed to be listened to start to finish. I put this concept to him when we were hanging out eating some nice food one day and we decided to work on this together with him sending me tracks, loops, ideas and experiments that I would arrange, edit, manipulate and combine. I was sent hundreds of pieces of music over a couple of years stretch and during that time I put together this album with all the parts that fitted with my vision" - Kieren Hebden aka Four Tet. "Rarities Vol. 2: The (FAT WRECK) FAT973 CD/ LP Originals" February 12 street date. When it comes to classic Fat Wreck bands No Use For A Name certainly need no introduction, but here's the scoop: they were one of the first bands on and remain a cornerstone of the label roster. Their unique take on California punk emphasized equally innovative and catchy melody, paired with top-flight musicianship. Despite the tragic passing of singer and in 2012, their presence can still be felt today, as their influence is evident in the work of many other artists. Fat Wreck recently unearthed some demos and early versions of some of the best No Use For A Name . The response was unanimous - people must hear these! So alas, we bring you "Rarities Vol. 2: The Originals". Side A gets the listener hooked immediately with rare versions of songs that have only appeared on compilations. The B-side contains never-before heard demos from the classic NUFAN album "". NOFX "Single Album" (FAT WRECK) FAT114 CD/ LP February 26 street date (CD)/March 19 street date (LP). After nearly 40 years, what is left to say about NOFX? Can a band continue to after almost four decades as a band? The answer to this question lies on "Single Album", the quartet's 14th full-length studio album. It is, as frontman and bassist describes, "a dark album". That wasn't the original intent. By early 2020, NOFX had written and recorded enough songs for a planned double album to be released that fall. Like so much about 2020, those plans changed. decided they had fell short of making the perfect double album, so they scrapped some tracks, and condensed it down to one solid single album. Hence the title. Recorded at Motor Studios in with Bill Stevenson and Jason Livermore (, ), "Single Album" gets more personal than NOFX ever has before. The result of these 10 tracks is a NOFX album that is both familiar and unpredictable traits that legions of adoring fans have grown to love about the band. SCHULTZ, WESLEY "Vignettes" (DUALTONE) DUA2228 CD/ LP February 26 street date. "Vignettes" sees Wesley Schultz, the 2x GRAMMY® Award-nominated singer-songwriter- guitarist and co-founder of The Lumineers, exploring his myriad influences and early inspirations with a series of starkly beautiful cover versions spanning such legendary artists as , Tom Waits, Sheryl Crow, Jim Croce, Derek and the Dominos, and . SMERZ "Believer" (XL XL1076CD CD SMERZ "Believer" (XL XL1076LP LP February 26 street date. Smerz are the Nowegian duo of Henriette Motzfeldt and Catharina Stoltenberg. The duo, who produce, write, direct and conceptualize all their own work, carve out a space where it's not so impossible for dreams, both big and small, to grow in the midst of the systemic societal weeds that tangle up people's self-worth and confidence. With "Believer", their 2021 debut full-length album on XL Recordings, they formalize the boundless sonic world that started to emerge within each of their debut EP's and in their running NTS monthly residency. Are you a Believer? WOODS "Reflections Vol. 1 (WOODSIST) WOODSIST102 LP (Bumble Bee Crown King) (black vi" WOODS "Reflections Vol. 1 (WOODSIST) WOODSIST102X LP (Bumble Bee Crown King) (coloured" March 5 street date. With no touring in 2020, and possibly this year, Woods decided to take a deep dive into their archives and put together the first volume of their much discussed archival series, "Reflections". Featuring rare and unreleased recordings from 2009-2013, including a ghost town desert jam off the side of the highway, their first live performance in Big Sur, the first recorded version of "Bend Beyond" and some shelved diamonds in the rough that were finished up during quarantine. Their hope is that it plays like a "lost record" from an extremely strange and fruitful period in Woods history.

FALL "Live At St. Helens (CASTLE FACE) CF133 LP Technical College '81 (LP+7-inch)" February 19 street date. First official release of this live show from the legendary post-punk band, from early in their career. Made with the blessing of all those still living associated with this line-up and show. 50% of profits go to Centrepoint, which helps the homeless youth in Manchester, UK. "Live Fall performances are always a pleasure because they seem to take what already made the Fall great and push it even a bit more into the rough and bloody uncharted wasteland that is drug scorched proto-punk and heady political poetry. So, it is with great pleasure that we introduce this Fall bootleg soundboard recording to you. Recorded during one of the many strong points in the bands vast and mighty history. They really burn bright here and bring every ounce of what you expect from this formidable force" - John Dwyer. FEUERSTACK, "Harmonize The Moon (FORWARD FMG090 LP MICHAEL (180g)" March 19 street date. All over Montreal Michael Feuerstack’s latest record, Harmonize the Moon, time—and its inherent illusory nature—is incredibly elastic. Some moments seem to stretch on forever; others are illuminated only briefly, like fiery embers popping into the sky, extinguished just as quickly as they’re recognized. While Feuerstack arranged and recorded Harmonize the Moon completely solo at his apartment in the spring of 2020, the songs that compose it were written over the past couple years, on wanderings and tours as well as at home. He embarked on a slow process of balancing the poetic with the narrative, producing songs that flow naturally instead of adhering too rigidly to established forms. The result is a collection that’s pensive but playful, introspective yet generous, and achingly intimate. The tone is tentatively hopeful throughout. Over deliberately thrummed acoustic and minimal drums, Feuerstack moves slowly and with intention, rendering his transmissions in intimate arrangements and his warm, expressive voice. FREELOVE FENNER "The Punishment Zone" (CELLULOID MR040 LP February 5 street date. Montreal art pop group Freelove Fenner release their long-awaited album, The Punishment Zone. The 14- collection is an exercise in pleasing sounds, diaphanous textures, and concise song structure. The group listened to a century's worth of experimental, often cacophonous sounds and reshaped it into a mellow pop music. The group’s workshop is the strictly analog Bottle Garden Studio, a small room full of tape machines and homemade equipment that is integral to the group’s sound and process. Avoiding 21st century technology not out of any sort of snobbery or nostalgia but rather a desire to avoid the work habits inherent with contemporary tools, the band embraces the different results that come with a slower, more tactile process: the happy accidents; the absence of visual stimuli (no screens); the difficulty in attaining high gloss finishes. Freelove Fenner have released two EPs, In the Bottle Garden (2009), and Pineapple Hair EP (2012); as well as the full-length album Do Not Affect a Breezy Manner (2013), all on Montreal’s Fixture Records. The Punishment Zone will be released on Arizona’s minimal art label Moone Records (via Celluloid Lunch in Canada), joining an eclectic roster featuring artists like Tori Kudo, John Dieterich, Little Wings, Lithics, and others. Recommended if you like: Tonto’s Expanding Head Band, Broadcast, Robert Wyatt, , White Noise, The of America, The Free Design, Godley and Creme. LNZNDRF "II (clear white vinyl)" (LNZNDRF) LNZ002LPC1 LP January 29 street date. LNZNDRF's "II" is a mass hypnotism, somehow both thunderous and trance-inducing. Recorded in extensive, shamanistic jam sessions at Austin's Public Hi-Fi in September 2019 and later edited down to give it shape, these songs feel like Right Now, with some toes testing the waters of the . The brothers Scott and (The National), Ben Lanz (The National, Beirut) and multi-instrumentalist Aaron Arntz (Beirut, Grizzly Bear) are in headlamps and spelunking gear, descending into a somnambulant space. Its incantations seem to beckon the dystopia of present day as much as they beckon the Big Mystery awaiting us when we finally bust through its barrier. MOORE FAMILY BAND "Missy" (ASIAN MAN) AM365 LP February 5 street date. The Moore Family Band - comprised of siblings Alyssa (lead vocals), Randy (guitar/bass), and Dylan Moore (drums/back-up vocals) - delivers sunny, propulsively catchy alt-rock while layering on the kinds of dueling and perfectly judged harmonies that might be more at home on a 1980s metal record. Earlier this year, the siblings found the COVID-19 pandemic at first disorienting, then unifying as the Moores spent quarantine writing songs together. Their forthcoming debut record "Missy", named after the family dog, came naturally as all three channeled influences like Weezer, Joan Jett, Green Day, Blondie, and Alkaline Trio into a rock 'n' roll record capable of standing toe-to-tapping-toe with early cuts from those genre forefathers. PAINTED SHRINES "Heaven And Holy (colour)” (WOODSIST) WOODSIST100 LP March 5 street date. Jeremy Earl (Woods) and Glenn Donaldson (Skygreen Leopards, The Reds, Pinks & Purples) met sometime in the mid-oughts and bonded over a love of and DIY sounds. They shared many stages since, and their first serious collaboration was on the 2011 Woods album "Sun & Shade". Around 2018, Earl was restless in upstate NY and accepted an invite to record in Donaldson's studio in an undisclosed rural coastal town in Northern California. In a week they emerged with nearly an album's worth of hazy folk-rock and psych-pop with touches of more outré lo-fi noise. Jeff Moller (The Papercuts) added bass, and they put the finishing touches on during quarantine. "Heaven And Holy" ebbs and flows like coastal fog between songs and dreamy instrumentals, splitting the difference between The Clean's "Unknown Country" and The Byrds' "Fifth Dimension". RAT COLUMNS "Pacific Kiss (black vinyl)" (TOUGH LOVE) TLV134LP LP RAT COLUMNS "Pacific Kiss (pastel pink)” (TOUGH LOVE) TLV134LPX LP February 19 street date. ‘Pacific Kiss’ is the fourth album from Australian musician David West's underground pop band, Rat Columns. It sees Rat Columns plunging headfirst into an azure sea of , rock 'n' roll and indie. The tones are bright and optimistic, though fans of confusion and gloom will still find solace in the album's darker moments, of which there are a few. Rat Columns emerged from San Francisco via Perth, in the late 2000s with the mope 'n' jangle of their first self-titled cassette release. From that moment, DW and a constantly evolving troupe of friends and co-conspirators have forged a persistent trail of albums and EP's. ‘Pacific Kiss’ is a record for those astral voyages into the spheres conducted from bedrooms, kitchens, grassy fields and open car windows. Pastel pink vinyl edition is limited to 250 copies. Black vinyl limited to 500 copies. STONE, ADAM / DEAD "Dataland" (FEEDING TUBE) FTR590LP LP SEA APES / February 5 street date. Dataland is a collaboration with Black Tempest and Adam Stone, achieved mainly through internet data transfer during the Covid lockdown of 2020. A meditation upon the average existence of a "developed- world" human in the early 21st century. This six-song collection is a fusion of electronica, monologue, "real drums", and guitar, and was recorded at various locations in sad old England over the last two years or so. VANILLE "Soleil ‘96" (RETURN TO RTA086 LP January 29 street date. Soleil 96 is the debut full length album from singer songwriter Rachel Leblanc. Produced by Emmanuel Éthier (Corridor, Chocolat) the album showcases bewitching melodies, and a unique fusion of 60s rock and french pop. Exclusive >> METAL/PROG/PSYCH/HARD ROCK >>

ALMIGHTY "Powertrippin' (2CD expanded)” (HEAR NO EVIL) HNECD148D CD February 26 street date. Although initially inspired by punk, when Scottish school friends Stump Monroe (drums), Floyd London (bass) and (guitar, vocals) joined forces with guitarist Tantrum in 1988, they chose a harder rocking, heavy metal sound. Snapped up by for 1989 debut "Blood, Fire & Love", their more punk infused aggressive approach was a welcome relief from the glam orientated sounds imported from across the Atlantic. This was followed by "Soul Destruction" in 1991, and then "Powertrippin'" in 1993. The album was also the first album to feature guitarist Pete Friesen, replacing original member, Tantrum. As well as the singles ‘Addiction’, ‘Over The Edge’ and ‘Out Of Season’, this expanded, deluxe reissue of "Powertrippin'" includes the B-Sides ‘Blind’, ‘Bodies’ (originally by the Sex Pistols), ‘Insomnia’, ‘In A Rut’ (originally by The Ruts) and ‘Fuckin' Up’ (originally by and Crazy Horse). Live versions of ‘Takin’ Hold’, and ‘Jesus Loves You...But I Don't’ illustrate what a powerful band The Almighty have always been on stage. The bonus disc also includes demo versions and an acoustic take of Neil Young's ‘Rockin'’ In The Free World’! DOZER "Vultures" (HEAVY PSYCH HPS147 CD DOZER "Vultures" (HEAVY PSYCH HPS147LP LP DOZER "Vultures (ltd gold vinyl)" (HEAVY PSYCH HPS147LTD LP DOZER "Vultures (ultra ltd white (HEAVY PSYCH HPS147SLTD LP & purple striped vinyl)" March 12 street date.Vultures is a first time pressed EP of the swedish stoner band Dozer. Recorded in 2004-2005 at Rockhouse Studios in Borlänge, these six tracks were used as pre-production demos for what would later become the fourth Dozer album, 2005’s Through the Eyes of Heathens. The album is now released for the first time on vinyl and digipak with a very special bonus track, a cover of the Sunride song Vinegar Fly. Vultures is a real heavy-stoner explosion, something that only Dozer can provide. The amazing artwork is made by Lowrider leader Peder Bergstrand. DOZER "Through The Eyes Of (HEAVY PSYCH HPS148LP LP Heathens" DOZER "Through The Eyes Of (HEAVY PSYCH HPS148LTD LP Heathens (ltd bloody red vinyl)" DOZER "Through The Eyes Of (HEAVY PSYCH HPS148SLTD LP Heathens (ultra ltd orange & " March 12 street date. From the very start of “Drawing Dead” through the memorable lead line in the slower-paced closer “Big Sky Theory,” Dozer assembled a work of impeccable songwriting and deep-rooted character. In the arc of their career, every record was another step forward, and just as 2001’s Madre de Dios built on the debut and 2003’s Call it Conspiracy built on that, so too did Through the Eyes of Heathens pick up from where its predecessor left off. Its sound was still rooted in a heavy rock feel, but Dozer were able to translate that into something more aggressive when they wanted — their sound had bite as well as lumber, and while a cut like “Born a Legend” could be traced back to their desert-minded beginnings in its basic structure, by the time it was finally executed, it was something else entirely. DOZER "Beyond Colossal" (HEAVY PSYCH HPS149LP LP DOZER "Beyond Colossal (ltd (HEAVY PSYCH HPS149LTD LP green vinyl)" DOZER "Beyond Colossal (ultra (HEAVY PSYCH HPS149SLTD LP ltd yellow & black March 12 street date Beyond Colossal is the fulfillment of the promise 2005’s excellent Through the Eyes of Heathens began to see through. The sound is that of the band pushing itself harder, writing stronger songs and compromising none of their edge or aural passion. You can hear it on “Exoskeleton (Part II),” truncated here from its appearance with “Part I” on a 2007 split with Iceland‘s Brain Police, at the 1:39-mark launching of “The Ventriloquist,” on the more traditionally stoner “Grand Inquisitor” and even the quiet “Bound for Greatness” which closes out the album. Dozer are not only on top of their game, they’re well beyond it. HENSLEY, KEN "My Book Of Answers" (HEAR NO EVIL) HNECD144 CD

HENSLEY, KEN "My Book Of Answers" (HEAR NO EVIL) HNELP144 LP March 6 street date. "My Book Of Answers" started with a chance encounter at Alicante airport on a flight bound for Moscow in 2018, when Russian businessman Vladimir Emelin (whose hobby is writing poetry) approached Ken Hensley. From translations of Vladimir's Russian words into English, Ken fashioned choruses and verses until he had the basis for nine original new songs. The main stumbling block to starting this record was finding the time to create it. And then the pandemic happened. Thankfully advances in modern technology meant that this album could be created and completed remotely. The album sees Ken also returning to play slide and lead guitars as well as his classic Hammond playing and of course lead vocals. "My Book Of Answers" was finished and scheduled for release before Ken's passing in November. HOLY MOTHER "Face This Burn (digi)" (MASSACRE) MASD1175 CD February 12 street date. This album is a reunion of Mike Tirelli and James Harris, the songwriting duo and founding members of Holy Mother. Their passion for music and their deep appreciation for the band's fans brought them back together to record this album. Guitarist Greg Giordano was recruited after numerous recommendations, after Mike and Jim saw his monster guitar solo skills performed live. Music fans can expect great, modern, hard- driving, bang your head music with powerhouse vocalist Mike Tirelli leading the way. This album is dedicated to the memory of their dear friend and former bassist Randy Coven with whom Holy Mother recorded six albums. HUMAN FORTRESS "Epic Tales & Untold (MASSACRE) MASD1169 CD Stories (2CD-digi)" HUMAN FORTRESS "Epic Tales & Untold (MASSACRE) MASL1169 LP Stories" February 12 street date. Human Fortress proudly presents the band's new album "Epic Tales & Untold Stories" - their most epic and commercial release so far! The CD digipak version of the album will include 2 CDs: the first CD contains new, rare, and previously unreleased songs, while the second CD offers a selection of the band's best songs. "Epic Tales & Untold Stories" is a gift and a huge thanks to their fans for more than 20 years of trust and solidarity! KERSLAKE, LEE "Eleventeen" (HEAR NO EVIL) HNECD145 CD KERSLAKE, LEE "Eleventeen" (HEAR NO EVIL) HNELP145 LP February 26 street date. Lee Kerslake joined Uriah Heep in 1972 for the classic "Demons & Wizards" LP, remaining behind Heep's drum kit for the best part of 30 plus years. Standing down from drumming full-time for Uriah Heep in 2007 due to ill health, Lee commenced his debut solo album in 2015 with Jake Libretto, completing the album in 2019. "Eleventeen" is a collection of eight songs, seven of them written or cowritten by Lee. Lee sadly passed away in September 2020 at the age of 73, leaving the last word to his friend and long-time Uriah Heep bandmate Mick Box: "it fills me with great pride that he achieved this as his last final musical legacy". MISANTHROPIA "Convoy Of Sickness" (MASSACRE) MAS1157 CD February 12 street date. The fourth brood that Misanthropia now spews out upon mankind tells us the stories and events that occurred in the criminal underworld during the late 1970s up to the present day on Dutch and Belgian soil. Music-wise, the grandeur and bombast once again proves that Misanthropia are able to arrive in splendor and greatness when it comes to production, quality above everything else and artwork that is more than just in your face. Their music spans from brutal and fast parts to moments of heavy and melodic parts. This album is not just about misanthropy, hatred, anti-religion, or some pseudo end-of-the-world nonsense that is written in some manuals and manifests to distract you and your loved ones. It is about how life on this ugly planet works, and beyond. It is about how the underworld reigns, fights, and sometimes cooperates with the upper world, where the living also profit and enjoy the good things and sweet candy that comes forth from this so-called underworld. PAYSAGE D'HIVER "Schnee (digi)" (KUNSTHALL KUNT502 CD February 5 street date. Schnee (snow) is omnipresent in the works of Swiss black metal artist Wintherr aka Paysage D'Hiver and turned into a four-part song cycle, released piece by piece on the compilation LP "Wurzelgeister" ('Schnee II', 2002) and on split records with Vinterriket ('Schnee I', 2003), Nordlicht and Drudkh ('Schnee III' and 'Schnee IV', 2017). All four tracks - created within a time span of almost 20 years and dealing with different facets of the frozen element - are now available together for the first time ever on CD. They have been partly remixed and wholly remastered specially for this release. Handmade CD digibook in black, sealed envelope. PAYSAGE D'HIVER "Im Traum (EP) (digi)" (KUNSTHALL KUNT572 CD PAYSAGE D'HIVER "Im Traum" (KUNSTHALL KUNT581 10" February 5 street date. Paysage D'Hiver's double album "Im Wald" was recently released and immediately became a favorite among both fans and critics. Now Wintherr offers us an addendum in the shape of the EP "Im Traum", which contains two album songs as re-imagined versions. "In my inner ear", the Swiss artist explains, "I heard deeper levels of music when recording 'Le Rêve Lucide' and 'Kaelteschauer', which are not possible to include in the limited physical audio spectrum, as it often happens with Paysage D'Hiver. So these two tracks, wherein it seemed particularly clear and intense to me, are a realization of these deeper levels for the first time". SPELLJAMMER "Abyssal Trip" (RIDING EASY) EZRDR127 CD/ LP March 5 street date. Following a five year break between their previous album, "Ancient Of Days", 's Spelljammer is back with an album that perfectly bridges the band's earlier desert rock leanings and their later massive, slow-burning riffs. "Abyssal Trip" takes its moniker from the perpetually dark, cold, oxygen-free zone at the bottom of the ocean. The six song, forty-four minute album fittingly embodies that bleak realm with rumbling, oozing guitars intercut with dramatic melodic interludes. The songs take their time to unfurl, making them even more hypnotic. Likewise, the lyrics take a poetic approach to establishing the sonic scenery. "Abyssal Trip" is, just like its title suggests, an epic tour through desolate zones which yield much to discover. WARPATH "Innocence Lost - 30 (MASSACRE) MASD1177 CD Years Of Warpath (digi)" February 12 street date. Warpath has been raising hell for 3 decades now, and the thrash outfit from Hamburg celebrates this occasion with the new release "Innocence Lost - 30 Years Of Warpath". Get ready for 11 massive, devastating and fear-killing thrash songs - including the new and previously unreleased song "Innocence Lost" introducing the new line-up of Warpath, a different version of "God Is Dead", as well as the original recording of the cover version of Venom's "Black Metal" - featuring Cronos of Venom and Sabina Classen of Holy Moses, among others. WIZARD "Metal In My Head (digi) (MASSACRE) MASD1174 CD WIZARD "Metal In My Head" (MASSACRE) MASL1174 LP February 12 street date. Wizard present their new studio album "Metal In My Head", the first one with the band's new guitarist Tommy Hartung (No Inner Limits). The band teamed up with their old friend and producer Martin Buchwalter (Tankard, Destruction, etc.), who also mixed and mastered the album. When it came to the drum recordings, you will hear the real stuff, no software was used to artificially spice up the drum sound. Due to the band not being able to perform live, Wizard put all their energy into the new album, and you can clearly hear that!

ALEXANDER, "Stay By Me/Me And (KENT) CITY074 7" ARTHUR Mine" March 5 street date. Arthur Alexander's mid-60s releases for Monument and Sound Stage 7 under the supervision of Fred Foster in Nashville failed to register on the charts but are highly regarded, none more so than these sides cut on his first session for the company. The released tracks from the session, ‘(Baby) For You’ and ‘The Other Woman (In My Life)’, were more country-sounding. These two wonderful soul songs remained in the vaults until an Ace CD in 2001 and have picked up admirers ever since. To own them on vinyl will be a vintage soul lover's thrill. BANDA, RICKY "Niwanji Walwa Amwishyo” (NOW-AGAIN) NA5202 LP February 5 street date. EXITS "You Got To Have (KENT) REPRO04 7" Money/Under The Street Lamp" March 5 street date. The Exits recorded these classic songs in and found success in releasing them on Pittsburgh's Gemini label, charting at #34 R&B in 1967. The number of copies pressed has not prevented the price of originals rising way past the £100 barrier due to its excellence and the fact it is collected on several vintage music scenes. The hit side was ‘Under The Street Lamp’, a beautiful paean to the street corner vocal groups of the 50s, where many Exits members first sang. The atmospheric flip, ‘You Got To Have Money’, was celebrated later on the rare and Northern Soul dance scene and is now a guaranteed floor-filler. GIGI & THE CHARMAINES/ "I Don't Want To Lose (KENT) CITY073 7" WALTE RJ Him/Forget The Girl" March 5 street date. These two contrasting unissued late 60s soul sides were first made available on Ace CDs. Gigi & the Charmaines' ‘I Don't Wanna Lose Him’ was written by Dale Warren and Gigi's husband, Herman Griffin. Herman was responsible for many soul classics and Dale Warren made his name arranging and writing at Shrine Records. A stomping yet subtle dance number that captures the energy of 1966, its only vinyl presence was on the 100 Club Anniversary 45 of 2006, now a much-coveted item. Walter Jackson's ‘Forget The Girl’ is taken at a more sedate pace, but is no less dynamic, with a full orchestra backing Walter's luxuriant vocal on a Clint Ballard ballad, another stunning recording. LOS YESTERDAYS "Mr. Yesterday/So (NOW-AGAIN) NA7039 7" Insincere" February 5 street date. The song that started it all for Gabriel Rowland and Victor Benavides was "Mr. Yesterday", a future Chicano soul classic about a jilted lover who refuses to accept reality, opting instead to live in the memories of happier times. It was after Tom Brenneck heard the song that he contacted Gabe Roth and the duo started working with . Here, we present the original, demo version of Los Yesterdays' "Mr. Yesterday". Rounding out the record is the B-Side tribute to Little Anthony & The Imperials, "So Insincere", about a man who confronts his lover about her lies concealing a longtime affair. MACRAMES "Unintentional (NOW-AGAIN) NA7040 7" Consequences Of Love/So In Love With" February 5 street date. The Macrames, with Victor Benavides channeling his inner Al Green, invokes the early 70s soul sounds of Memphis and Philly. Songs such as "Unintentional Consequences of Love" that tells the tale of a man who has unwittingly (and unwillingly) fallen in love and is living in denial. But as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so love is in the heart of the "perceiver" and "So In Love With You" exemplifies this opposite perspective of someone reveling in the thrills of a new love. Originally a part of Los Yesterdays early set lists, these two tracks featuring the legendary Ozomatli horns were shelved when the band solidified their unique 50s/60s psychedelic soul sound, and so The Macrames were born. V/A "Those Shocking Shaking Days (3LP)” (NOW-AGAIN) NA5065LP LP Available now. Repress at a higher price - all backorders have been cancelled. The progressive music scenes in 1970s Indonesia were largely underground as a result of strict censorship imposed by the dictator Suharto. Those who performed music marked by relentless fuzz, over the top, politically charged lyrics, strong rhythms and a cranky low-fidelity were truly rebellious. Thanks now to the tireless research of Canadian hip hop producer and Southeast Asian music specialist Jason "Moss" Connoy - and the trust that Indonesian rock legend Benny Soebardja placed in Now-Again Records as he traversed his homeland's islands securing the rights necessary to offer this anthology - Now-Again feel like they can, in good spirits and conscience, shine the light on some of the most impressive organizations to offer their take on the psychedelic and progressive rock and funk sounds during the early shocking, shaking days of Suharto's regime. WILLIAMS, MAURICE/ "Look My Way/Not Now (DEEP SOUL) DEEPSOUL15 7" WALTER WILSON But Later" March 5 street date. These two tracks have been around since their first releases on Kent LPs in the late 80s. Taken from the Scepter/Wand tapes, the artists had one release each on those labels. Maurice Williams' ‘Look My Way’ was recorded at the same session as the two songs issued on his Zodiacs-billed Scepter 45, although it outperforms them both. It was assumed that ‘Not Now But Later’ by Walter Johnson was also an unreleased number, but a few years later, a Wand DJ copy was discovered in the home of the producer Billy Jackson, when the singer's true identity was found to be Walter Wilson. However, Billy stated that it was an alias for Tommy Keith, who wrote and recorded some excellent soul music. It is a beautiful self-penned ballad in the Ashford/Simpson mould. MANN, CHICO "Double Life (black & (UBIQUITY) UR396 LP white haze color vinyl)" February 5 street date. For his latest project Chico Mann recalls, “When I moved from NY to LA, my intention was to start this AfroRock band, Here Lies Man. What you're hearing on this record is music I wrote for that band but has been reimagined to bring it back to its original form.” Using fewer elements of Highlife for its brand of Afrobeat, Double Life infuses more elements while still retaining an Afrobeat authenticity representative of African diasporic music. At the close of the 1960s, having been a significant presence on the Jamaican music since 1958, Randy’s Records owners, Vincent and Pat Chin, decided to expand their business by building a recording studio above the famed Randy's Record Mart shop at 17 North Parade, Kingston. Over the months that immediately ensued, numerous recordings were produced at the new facility, primarily under the auspices of Gaylads founder, Harris B.B Seaton. The best of these early reggae recordings are gathered on this celebration of rare boss sounds, which includes 17 tracks making their CD debut! V/A "Different Fashion (2CD): (DOCTOR BIRD) DBCDD072 CD The High Note Dancehall Col" February 12 street date. By the time the strident sound of original dancehall came to dominate the Jamaican music scene at the close of the 1970s, Sonia Pottinger had long been established as one of the island's most influential figures. Since first making her mark as a producer of note in the mid-60s, she had remained at the forefront of the fiercely competitive industry, effortlessly adapting to changing musical styles. Her ability to keep her finger firmly on the musical pulse is impressively reflected with this set, which gathers the very best of her output during the golden age of dancehall. Included on this essential collection are popular works by some of Jamaica's finest talents of the era, with the island's top sessions crews, the Revolutionaries and the Roots Radics the chief musical accompanists. Yet despite the high quality of all of the recordings, every recording on this compilation appears on CD for the very first time, with 11 of the 33 tracks previously unreleased! BELAGA, PATRICK "Blutt" (PAN) PAN117 LP February 26 street date. Conceived at the heel of Italy's boot-shaped peninsula in Apulia, Patrick Belaga's "Blutt" makes music for the unruly imagination. The title is an old German word for 'naked', 'bare', but it can also mean 'blood' when spelt blut. Take away another letter and it makes 'butt'. None of these definitions and adaptations were what prompted the classically-trained composer and cellist to name his second album with a word simulating the sound of a punctured artery. That came later. Blutt's nine woozy compositions are inspired by a contemplative road trip with a friend, and the mysterious muffled music heard from an unidentified source. It was a combination of jazz and classical music that haunted Belaga's wanderings through the Byzantine town Gallipoli, and soon infected his dreams of long-gone civilizations. This record is its outcome, where organic instrumentals and electronic production merge into a sound that’s both contemporary and ancient. Brijean want you to move, physically, mentally, dimensionally; this is dance music for the mind, body, and soul. With "Feelings", they’'e manifested a gentle collective space for respite, for self-reflection, for self-care, for uninhibited imagination and new possibilities. The album cultivates a specific vibe, a softness Brijean Murphy has come to call "romancing the psyche". In 2018, she began recording songs with multi- instrumentalist and producer Doug Stuart, who shares a background in jazz and pop in bands such as Atlas, Meernaa, and Luke Temple. Following their first sessions, which resulted in 2019's mini-album "Walkie Talkie", the duo continued freeform hangs in Oakland, inviting friends Chaz Bear, Tony Peppers, and Hamir Atwal. The leap from "Walkie Talkie" to "Feelings" is marked by a notable expanse in range and energy. Brijean's signature sound - a golden-hued dream pop tropicalia of dazzling beats and honeyed vocals - elevates with the addition of live drummers, strings, and synths. The album also finds Murphy fully trusting in her strengths, not just as a percussionist, but as a songwriter and collaborator. Baker originally aspired to be a jazz musician, but turned to calypso, mambo, and then R&B, where work opportunities were more plentiful. This release presents two of Baker's finest LPs under his own name, which were cut in 1962 during his solo heyday in : the sensational but underrated "But Wild", and the equally splendid "Bossa Nova". British funk/disco band The Chequers began in reggae, formed by bassist John Matthias and his guitarist brother Richard in 1973, with drummer George Young, keyboardist Paul War and vocalist Jackie Robins. Despite the success of early single “Rudi’s In Love,” the group soon aimed for a broader sound informed by lush disco and Philly soul; thus, debut LP Check It Out had Mike Spear on , Andy Dummit on sax and flute and Ken Freeman on string synth. Tracks like “Theme One” and “Rock On Brother” are heavily orchestrated, and there’s an unusual funk/disco reading of The Wailers’ “Get Up Stand Up” too. Lyon-based freakers Chico Magnetic Band began as Chico & the Slow Death, its front man a wild Tunisian-born singer otherwise known as Mahmoud Ayari, with drummer Patrick Garel, bassist Alain Mazet and guitarist Bernard Lloret, later replaced by Bernard Monneri. Conjuring a dark, excessive sound with unfettered guitar, pummelling drum rolls and Ayari growling and grumbling over the top, this sole LP is culled from different permutating sessions, with plenty of audio freakery and extreme effects from Jean-Pierre Massiera; Hendrix cover “Cross Town Traffic” is rendered with love, despite Ayari’s hefty accent. These albums mark Richard's return to secular music, a decade after his popular success in the mid-50s with the Specialty label. In addition to remaking hits, Richard also added new rock, blues, and R&B material full of verve on these LPs. Most listeners only became aware of Billy Preston as a solo artist after he signed to Apple Records in the late 1960s. But he'd been recording for a long time prior to that, dating back to when he was a teenager. This instrumental album for Sam Cooke's SAR label (issued on its sister Derby imprint) was cut in March 1963, when Preston was still going to high school in Los Angeles. The very fact that it's wholly instrumental indicates that it's pretty early in Preston's evolution, and though he does play some piano, it's really on the more uptempo, organ-dominated tunes where he hits the best groove. In truth, these aren't any great shakes even when it comes to soul organ instrumentals, but they have a nice swinging bounce that places them a cut above period background music, though they fall a good ways short of being spellbinding. The slower numbers (including covers of hits by Sam Cooke and Ray Charles) verge on easy listening; in contrast, the more urgent cuts are cookin', with bop, jazz, and gospel influences spicing up the soul/R&B recipe. REED, JIMMY "At Soul City/Sings The (SOUL JAM) 806185 CD Best Of The Blues" January 29 street date. There's simply no sound in the blues as instantly recognizable, and as easy to play and sing as the music of the great Jimmy Reed. He was one of the bestselling bluesmen of all time. With his laid-back, slurred singing style stretched over a lazy, easy boogie rhythm, and punctuated by short runs on his racked harmonica, Reed brought a kind of hushed, unhurried urgency to everything he recorded. This essential CD features two of his over-looked LPs released by the Vee Jay label: the long unavailable masterpiece "Jimmy Reed at Soul City" (which, despite its title, was actually recorded in the studio) and the equally splendid "Sings the Best of the Blues". Hancock - piano and Fender Rhodes, Bennie Maupin - saxes, bass cl. and flute, Eddie Henderson - trumpet, Julian Priester - trombone, Buster Williams - bass and Billy Hart - drums. A highly progressive form of modern Jazz based on the mix of different elements. Some sort of Afro-Electric-Funk sound journey where waves of multiple pulsating sounds develop in a continuous alternation between tension and release. A marvelous band for which live performances often show more than studio recordings. LINCOLN, ABBEY "Straight Ahead" (DOWN AT DAD151 LP February 5 street date. Abbey Lincoln, often remembered for her seminal work with Max Roach, was a powerful performer and indeed one of the greatest Jazz voices of all time. "Straight Ahead" stands as one her best albums. "Straight Ahead" is the perfect combination between Lincoln 's strong "Afro-Blue" tone singing, conscious lyrics and angular modern Jazz arrangements. Recorded in New York in a one-off studio session held on February 22, 1961 and released by Candid Records in the same year, the album includes highlights such as Oscar Brown jr's "When Malindy Sings", Thelonious Monk's "Blue Monk", Billie Holiday and Mal Waldron's "Left Alone" and "African Lady" a Randy Weston composition based on lyrics by the great writer Langston Hughes. LITTLE, BOOKER "Booker Little" (DOWN AT DAD150 LP February 5 street date. Recorded in 1960 for the Time label, this is Booker Little's second album as a leader (there would only be four) and a major statement in his too short career. A dynamic and yet relaxed session with Little as the only horn in the band, a fine quartet featuring Winton Kelly or Tommy Flanagan on piano, Scott LaFaro on bass, and Roy Haynes on drums. A highly interactive combo inspired by Little's unique trumpet approach. "Little's immediately recognizable melancholy sound and lyrical style are heard in top form" as Scott Yanow stated in his 4½ stars album review. Originally conceived and formed by Khan Jamal, the arrival of Byard Lancaster in 1971 helped shift their focus and efforts into a higher gear. Jamal and Lancaster would work together in different configurations throughout the decade. Sounds of Liberation were at the forefront of avant-garde Black expression in the early 1970s, putting action behind their creative endeavors. This five-song session of original music (with compositions penned by Jamal, Lancaster and Sudler) has never been released and has been prepared for this important and long-overdue LP package by group members, in collaboration with Brewerytown Beats Records in Philadelphia. V/A "Jazz in Jamaica - The (HONEYPIE) HONEY025 LP Coolest Cats From The Alpha Bo" February 26 street date. Talking about the foundation of Jamaican music, the Alpha Boys School in Kingston can be considered as one of the places where it all began! Back in the day, under the direction of Sister Mary Ignatius, the school was the place where young boys from the poor neighborhoods in Kingston could embrace an instrument (mostly brass and drums). Then history tells us that some of these kids became among the most influential musicians in the history of Jamaican Jazz, Ska, and Reggae. Joe Harriott, Dizzy Reece, Tommy McCook, Don Drummond, Cedric Brooks, Rico Rodriguez, Johnny Osbourne, Leroy Smart and Yellowman are just some of the fruits of such a great community art project. Now this compilation contains some rare gems produced between 1959 and 1962 by Jamaican Jazz heavyweights such as Tommy Mc Cook, Don Drummond, Ernest Rangling, Lennie Hiibert, Cecil Lloyd and others. This is highly swinging music inspired by the Black American tradition with a unique and inevitable Caribbean flavour. Don't miss it!!! Includes the albums : 'Piney Wood Blues'; 'Tough Times'; 'Blues On Highway 49' and 'Mississippi Big Joe Williams and his Nine String Guitar' . Born in Mississippi in 1903, Delta blues singer Big Joe Williams was perhaps rather overlooked amongst many of the famous bluesmen who came out of the delta in the 1920s and 1930s. Famed for his unique home-made reconstructed 9 string guitar and assortment of home made or home found percussion instruments, Big Joe must have made quite a sight to his audience with swinging beer cans and pie plates dangling around his acoustic guitar and struggling to compete with his extraordinary voice. He played with the likes of Pettie Wheatstraw, Robert Nighthawk and Sonny Boy Williamson and was even accompanied by a young Muddy Waters on harmonica during his early travels in the 1930s. 'Tough Times' has been unavailable on CD until this release. Import Titles >> SOUL/R&B/FUNK/DISCO/DANCE >>

DIBANGO, MANU "Africadelic" (SURVIVAL SVVRCH028 LP February 12 street date. The strange and majestic musical beast that is Africadelic was Dibango’s follow-up to Soul Makossa, but it was initially released on Louis Delacour’s library music label, Mondiaphone, before “Soul Makossa” became an international phenomenon. As a Mondiaphone release, it was aimed at television and film producers seeking atmospheric background music, so the original titles are simply “Theme No 1,” “Theme No 2,” etc, with corresponding rhythmic notations such as “3/4 Africain,” “Afro Beat 12/8” and “Medium Soul Beat,” though once “Soul Makossa” hit the stratosphere, subsequent reissues bore actual song titles. In any case, the album is simply wonderful, a driving mix of Afro soul, funk and jazz, with an undercurrent of Latin percussion throughout. Listening back to the album now, it is hard to believe that the whole shebang was written in a couple of days and committed to tape within the space of a week, but that is all more testimony to the greatness of Manu Dibango, one of African music’s true pioneers. Play loud and often for best effect! JAH WARRIOR "Dub From the Heart" (PARTIAL) PRTL008LP LP February 26 street date. A reissue of Jah Warrior 's 1997 album, Dub From The Heart . Edition of 500. SOARES, ELZA "A Bossa Negra" (HONEYPIE) HONEY028 LP February 26 street date. One of the most shocking but ultimately uplifting stories of Brazilian music: Soares grew up in extreme poverty in a favela, at 13 was forced to marry a man who raped her, gave birth to three stillborn children - but still fought her way to the top of the industry, married Garrincha, lost him to booze & loose women, in addition to their son and her mother in car accidents. And is still going strong! This is probably her best album and indeed is absolutely lovely, grooves like nothing else. She sings with passion & fire in her lungs like the fabulously versatile singing magician she is. Her husky voice became her trademark. After finishing A Bossa Negra - her second album - Elza went to Chile to represent Brazil in the 1962 Football World Cup, where she met with Louis Armstrong personally. GLASS, PHILIP "Naqoyqatsi O.S.T." (MUSIC ON CD) MOCCD14034 CD February 26 street date. "Naqoyqatsi" is the third and final film in the Qatsi trilogy, meaning "life as war". Composed by Philip Glass and performed by members of the Philip Glass Ensemble, and featuring the amazing Yo- Yo Ma on cello, this completes the lengthy score which was begun for this film series with "Koyaanisqatsi" in 1982. The music is more traditional orchestral than much of Glass's work. One instrument, the cello, plays through much of the piece. Some unconventional instruments are used in addition to traditional ones, including a didgeridoo and an electronically-created jaw harp. Conducted by Michael Riesman. MCDONALD, FRANK "Mean & Dirty" (DE WOLFE) DW3392 LP & CHRIS RAE February 5 street date. Originally released in 1978, the title Mean & Dirty describes this album to a T. Let this record play with any 70’s cop drama, spy-thriller, or blaxploitation film and it will act flawlessly as the soundtrack. Dramatic funk rock dominates this album (Moving Target, Flying Squad, Arrival Time), but room is left open for the mellower pieces (Slow Fuse, Blue Mood, Night Moves), the super-fast (Dragster), and the surprisingly jaunty (On Yer Bike, Guv). MORRICONE, ENNIO "Cosa Avete Fatto A (MUSIC ON MOVATM268C LP Solange O.S.T. (180g-coloured vin" February 19 street date. "Cosa avete fatto a Solange?" is a 1972 Giallo film directed by Massimo Dallamano. The plot follows a series of violent murders occurring at a Catholic girls’ school in England where a young student has gone missing. It is considered a classic within the Giallo genre - an Italian term designating thrillers, mystery and horror films from Italy. Ennio Morricone's haunting soundtrack is one of his premiere Giallo scores. It is now available as a limited edition of 1000 individually numbered copies on flaming coloured vinyl. The front cover image is taken from the original film poster. MORRICONE, ENNIO "L'istruttoria E'Chiusa (MUSIC ON MOVATM269C LP Dimentichi O.S.T. (180g-orang" February 19 street date. "L'istruttoria E'Chiusa Dimentichi" is a 1971 Italian crime drama film directed by Damiano Damiani. It is based on the novel "Tante Sbarre", written by Leros Pitton and was awarded at the Tehran Film Festival. The film centres around the architect Vanzi, whom ends up in prison and ends up involved in a plot against an inconvenient witness to organised crime, passed off as a suicide, with the complicity of the security guards. Renowned composer Ennio Morricone created an obscure, yet globally beloved, score to the thriller. Limited edition of 1000 individually numbered copies on orange marbled vinyl. SOUNDTRACK "Crouching Tiger, Hidden (MUSIC ON MOVATM028R LP Dragon (180g-translucent red" February 26 street date. "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" is a 2000 wuxia film directed by Ang Lee. Taking place in 18th-century Qing dynasty China, the story revolves around a warrior who gives his sword, Green Destiny, to his lover to deliver to safe keeping, but it is stolen, and the chase is on to retrieve it. The film was praised for its story, direction, and cinematography, and for its martial arts sequences. It won the Academy Award and Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film. The score was composed by Tan Dun, containing many solo passages for cello by Yo-Yo Ma. The track "A Love Before Time" features Coco Lee. This album is released as a limited edition of 750 copies on translucent red vinyl. SOUNDTRACK "Paranoia (180g- (MUSIC ON MOVATM293C LP translucent blue vinyl)" February 19 street date. ACT! "Grey Matter AR (HALOCLINE HTRA015LP LP Snapchat Compositions" February 26 street date. Grey Matter is a series of Snapchat filters created by artist Karen Vanderborght that explores the poetic and existential potential of AR (Augmented Reality) and social media -- suggesting selfies as self- reflective mirrors informed by the wisdom of our elders. These filters, soundtracked by ACT! , were released exclusively to Snapchat in 2019 and are here now on vinyl. Beginning in 2018 -- Karen filmed and interviewed ten seniors who brought diverse and universal wisdom to some of life's biggest questions. Andrew ; an Ojibwe leader who lived through the residential school program, Alf; a church organist who publicly came out as gay at 80, Anne ; the first black Senator in Canada -- all the seniors provide unique and profound perspectives on life and aging. See their words, thoughts, and appearances transpose and intersect with your selfie in an edifying engagement on themes of age, memory, time, regret, and resilience. BLACKLIGHT "Tearing At The Edges Of (NUTRIOT) NUT007LP LP CHAMELEON All Restraint" February 26 street date. Blacklight Chameleon , a new moniker by Austrian producer Martin Riedler , presents a confusing or rather odd introduction with his new project on Nutriot Recordings. Riedler's music takes a stance halfway between studio production and live jam. BLOCKDATA "Vacuum Decay (EP)" (OHM 58MOHM LP February 19 street date. Scotland's Gav Hislop has long been on electronic music's radar, with performances and releases as Babyshaker. A superior professional sound designer, he has shifted gears to a expert display of controlled demolition in drum 'n' bass and beyond under the name Blockdata. Releasing on Triple G Recordings, Sonicterror, and Abstrakt Reflections previously, this is the first solo vinyl release of the project. Scientific precision sound design and creatively rolling rhythms construct the EP. BRECHT, JOHANNES "Winter In America" (DIYNAMIC) DIYNAMIC131E 12"EP FT. FETSUM February 26 street date. If this year was a color, what shade would it be? If this year was a scent, what would it remind us of? If two thousand twenty was a metaphor for a season... what would the scenery look like? Winter In America is not a musical answer to this question, but rather an impression that Johannes Brecht has gained in the past months by observing the social climate and glimpsing at the Western hemisphere. A mixture of political ice wind, turbulent questions of faith and societal climate changes. These are also the topics that have always connected Johannes Brecht and Fetsum , personally and artistically. As big Gil Scott-Heron fans, the classic Winter In America has almost offered itself to be reissued and contextualized. Two very different friends, with two very different biographies, but a complementary view forward. Next to Winter In America , Johannes Brecht offers his track "Crystal", which was created almost entirely in a C15 synthesizer. "The track was born from a live jam. I wanted to try to create techno tracks not in a sequencer, but to play them properly and the C15 forces you to do that." CUBE "Drug Of Choice" (ALTER) ALT63 LP February 19 street date. Since 2010, Adam Keith's solo project Cube has been supplying a steady run of records and cassettes that capture songwriterly fixations and frustrations in a dextrous style of wounded electronics. Though Cube has been the centrepiece of his activity for some years, he's all the while remained active in collaborations, playing in bands such as SPF and Mansion to name just a few. Keith's latest iteration as Cube launches a panoramic set of sonic touchstones into a gristly and hypnotic orbit. Seismic drum machine parts partition an album that layers industrial-tipped takes on digi-dub with roaming guitar lines, piano vignettes, and breakbeat theatrics. For all the abrasiveness and rhythmic allusions that Keith employs, his use of voices alongside lush manipulations of errant samples and atmospheres tempers the commotion, delivering something that feels as much focused on artful constructions of private experiences as it does the cathartic qualities of noise. DJ LOSER "Stealth Hope" (NOVI SVIJET) NOVI001LP LP February 26 street date. Following DJ Loser 's output on labels like VEYL, Puppy Tapes, or Clan Records, is Stealth Hope . A blend of various styles and genres, Stealth Hope showcases the wide range and potential of the Greek artist who is destined for big things to come. Features Malafama XOT 33 and DJ GANT-MAN "Distorted Sensory" (TEKLIFE) TEKLIFE011 12"EP February 12 street date. Legendary Chicagoan General Juke aka Gant-Man returns with "Distorted Sensory", his brand new acid house adventure. A longtime veteran who's been behind the decks since before he was even a teen, he's been an essential part of Chicago dance music history since the Dance Mania days in the mid 90s, and a major pioneer in jumpstarting the juke movement that followed. This new single, and his debut solo releaseon the Teklife imprint explores the time honored tradition of jacking, channeling the very essence of house music though a modern lens. Employing an enigmatic 303 bassline that mutates and breathes as if it were alive, Gant plays malicious melodies that run up and down octaves in a freaky, hallucinatory manner. In addition to the original, two of the UK's finest contribute remixes as well. Hyperdub boss Kode9 puts things into overdrive with his 160 BPM warped vision of Gant's acid, sliced up to appeal more to the footworkers and fans of psycho tempos. Dubstep pioneer Loefah strips back the original percussion and lets the 303s float over a cloud of deep sub bass, adorned with lovely splashes of rolling snares and micro percussion. HIDDEN EMPIRE "Lost Spirits (2LP)" (STIL VOR SVT286LP LP February 26 street date. Lost Spirits is an exploration in sounds for dancing. Catalyzed by the catastrophe that was 2020, Hidden Empire step off the stage and retreat to the studio on a quest to find out what moves the people. Hidden Empire oar their creative rudders, lending their hand from techno to deep house with a cheeky reach-around to a more downtempo vibe. Features Artche, Bebetta, and Lazarusman. Includes MP3 download with three extra tracks. KUTMAH " A Tribute to Brother (ALL CITY) ACASP12 CASS/ LP Ras G & The Afrikan Space Prog" February 5 street date. On July 29th of last year Ras G left this planet before it all turned for the worst. The only way to cope with this loss was to communicate with my friend through these beats. The digital is out now and a 12" will be available next month or so. After recoup the Shorter family will receive all funds. LOBO, JOAO "Simorgh" (LES ALBUMS LAC016CD CD LOBO, JOAO "Simorgh" (LES ALBUMS LAC016LP LP February 26 street date. Early summer 2019, João Lobo started recording his compositions at les Ateliers Claus in Brussels, with guitarist Norberto Lobo, bassist Soet Kempeneer, and recording engineer Christophe Albertijn. While the mix of genres and styles may be easy to distinguish, the focus centers on the result of the mixing: a highly grooving and an occasionally paused and introspective music that seems out of time and out of space. This release is the trio's debut record, which is the impetus for their personal development in the realization that features João as a mentor in the creation process. LP artwork with hotstamped gold foil. LUTTO LENTO "LEGENDO" (HAUNTER) SPCTR016 LP February 19 street date. "LEGENDO" is a work of sonic weird fiction. A pulp fantasy. A descent through the cracks in reality, punctuated by bizarre encounters and freaky transformations. It oozes an odd mixture of wonder and fear, a fascination with whatever might be lurking around the next unlit corner, met with relentless excitement and leading towards ghastly discoveries. The author, Lubomir Grzelak aka Lutto Lento, arranged this eccentric narrative as a follow up to his previous LP, while also settling out to subvert the atmosphere of that record. In his Haunter debut he embraces his own quirkier side, delving further into eerie derision and surreal trickery. He achieves that by remodeling his penchant for heavy bass and gloomy dub into a kind of otherworldly folk music, drawing in deterritorialized string instruments, cheeky digital sound design, Coil-ian horror synths, and drums that remind as much of heavy metal as of Hollywood neo-classicism. POWELL "on the feet of a wind" (A FOLDER) AF020LP LP February 26 street date. on the feet of a wind is a wild assemblage of carbonated synthetic music from Powell and a sister record to flash across the intervals and multiply the sides -- two albums already released in 2020. Recalling Xenakis, Parmegiani, and Hecker but with the smile/smirk of vintage Powell, the record is released via a folder, a new music and film platform created by Powell, Michael Amstad and Marte Eknæs. "Endlessly strange and formlessly mesmerizing" --The Quietus. SERAVINCE "Hear To See" (WICKED WAX) WW0013 LP February 19 street date. Amsterdam-based label Wicked Wax continues to plug the sound of its city to a broader audience. Sometimes that sound lies in the past. For its upcoming 13th release, the label went and linked up with one of Amsterdam’s unsung heroes, who’s been a household name behind the (international) music scene. Keyboardist, composer and owner of the legendary Flowriders studio Vincent Helbers released his debut album ‘Hear To See’ as Seravince in 2013. A blend of broken beat, future soul and multiple adjective-jazz styles, compiled in a masterfully mixed 45-minute album. Now, 7 years later, the album is released on vinyl for the first time. The album is deeply rooted in broken beat drum grooves, provided by longtime collaborator and UK drummer extraordinaire Richard Spaven. These are accompanied by the jazz -inspired harmonies and solos from Seravince himself. All musical elements are one takes, recorded on analogue tape. The album is accompanied by a previously unreleased track called People Of The Night. V/A "LA Series Vol 0-11" (ALL CITY) ACLA01 CD/ /CASS/ LP February 5 street date.
