John Garcia Genre: Stoner Rock Label: Napalm Records Album: John Garcia Spielzeit: 44:53 VÖ: 25.07.14 Band: John Garcia Genre: Stoner Rock Label: Napalm Records Album: John Garcia Spielzeit: 44:53 VÖ: 25.07.14 Der amerikanische Sänger John Garcia war und ist eine prägende Person in der Desert Rock-Szene und hat bereits bei der ein oder anderen Band dieses Genres mitgewirkt. Kyuss, Kyuss-Lives, Vista Chino, Hermano, Slo Burn, um nur mal die Wichtigsten zu nennen. Fakt ist; der Mann kann mit gerade mal 43 Jahren auf eine vielfältige und erfolgreiche Karriere zurückblicken. Da ist es natürlich allerhöchste Zeit, ein Soloalbum in der Diskografie unterzubringen. Das selbstbetitelte Projekt wurde bereits 2008 begonnen und kann nun schließlich, mit der Unterzeichnung eines Deals mit Napalm Records, realisiert werden. Im Grunde bietet "John Garcia" kaum allzu große Überraschungen. Der Mann macht was er am besten kann; und zwar soliden, frischen und lockeren Stoner / Hard-Rock. Erinnerungen an Garcias frühere Band Kyuss werden wach und hin und wieder scheinen Black Sabbath durch. Was Garcias Solowerk meiner Meinung jedoch stark von den genannten Acts unterscheidet, ist seine Coolness und Lebhaftigkeit. Die Songs strahlen eine gewisse Freude aus und eignen sich wunderbar als Soundtrack für die sonnigen Tage. Zentrales Element der Scheibe ist natürlich John Garcias markante Stimme, die wunderbar dreckig und trotzdem lebhaft daherkommt. An den Gesangsqualitäten gibt es nichts zu meckern; der Mann schmettert die Songs nur so heraus und gibt sie wie kein Zweiter zum Besten. Der Gesamtsound ist sehr erdig und old-schoolig, typisch Stoner Rock. Nach dem Leitsatz "weniger ist mehr" wurde hier nichts übermäßig aufpoliert und das ist gut so. Alle Instrumente klingen sehr "live" und natürlich. Besonders das Schlagzeug wirkt so authentisch, dass man meint, man säße dem Drumkit direkt gegenüber. Die meisten Songs rangieren im groovigen Mid-Tempo Bereich und die stilistische Bandbreite reicht von eingängigen, Radio-tauglichen Hard Rock Smashern bis hin zu härteren, dreckigen Stoner Rock Nummern. Man kann das Album wunderbar am Stück durch-hören, die Stücke bauen gut aufeinander auf, sind nicht allzu verschachtelt, aber auch nicht primitiv. Die ein oder andere Überraschung hat die Scheibe auch noch in petto. So ist beispielsweise Gitarrenlegende Robby Krieger (The Doors) bei "Her Bullets Energy" zu hören. Dieser, von Akustikgitarren geprägte, Rausschmeißer bildet einen schönen, ruhigen Gegenpol zum Rest des Albums. Fazit: Für Fans von Stoner Rock führt kein Weg an diesem Album vorbei, wer jedoch auf experimentelle Ansätze oder Erkundung neuer Gefilde gehofft hatte, wird hier wohl enttäuscht werden. It’s finally October and so far the year 2017 has failed to accomplish any ideas of a futuristic/utopian pleasure-garden. The current earthly climate (besides being unusually warm) is socially dissonant to say the least. Politically—the “leadership” situation is downright absurd. Furthermore, I can’t help but find myself obsessing over change and fretting profusely that things may be changing for the worse. I have found several ways to escape this anxiety, and music is one of the safer ones. And even though I have always been able to rely on finding some sense of mental reconciliation in music, the sounds that have defined my core of auditory enjoyment—my rock-n-roll roots—have now waned. When I stop to assess the contemporary happenings of rock, I am, typically, shocked and horrified to find that a frenzy of electronic influence has seemingly debased everything that I have ever known to be righteous and upstanding in a time- This is the album cover for Villains. La finalité étant que vous foulerez quelques années encore les terres Clissonnaises si vous participez aux prochains Hellfest « nouvelle formule » à partir de 2012 ! Alors évidemment, le succès tout relatif du Hellfest, qui ne s’est pas fait en un jour, a finit par attiser des convoitises et nous avons vu fleurir plusieurs projets… certains ont vu le jour en toute modestie pour, nous l’espérons, être appelés à se développer.

    Pressemitteilung zu John Garcia & The Band of Gold Der ehemalige Kyuss-Frontmann John Garcia kommt mit The Band of Gold am 20.10.18 ins Uebel & Gefährlich und präsentiert sein Solo-Album Hamburg, April 2018 – Die „Coyote Unplugged“-Tour im April 2017 war ein voller Erfolg, jetzt legt John Garcia nach: Der kalifornische Kultsänger und Mitbegründer des Stoner Rock kündigt neben einem neuen Album auch gleich eine dazugehörige Tour im Oktober 2018 an. Der ehemalige Frontmann von wegbereitenden Bands wie Kyuss, Slo Burn, Unida, Hermano und Vista Chino wird sein komplettes neues Solo-Album plus ein Greatest Hits- Programm in Hamburg am 20.10.18, Uebel & Gefährlich zum Besten geben. Seit über zwei Dekaden setzt John Garcias Stimme den Standard für den Stoner Rock- Sound der kalifornischen Wüste. Sein musikalisches Wirken als Genre-Gründer mit den wegbereitenden Kyuss spricht für sich, auch die Nachfolger Vista Chino, Unida, Slo Burn und Hermano haben seinen Ruf als Ausnahmesänger weiter gefestigt. Dabei ist John Garcia wirklich ein waschechter Wüstensohn: 1970 in Arizona geboren, wuchs er mit seiner allein erziehenden Mutter und zwei Geschwistern rund um Palm Springs/Kalifornien auf. Dort gründete der Doors- und Misfits-Fan Anfang der Neunziger mit Gitarrist Josh Homme (später Queens Of The Stone Age) die Band Kyuss. Mit vier Alben (u.a. der Genre-Meilenstein „Welcome To Sky Valley“, 1994) wurden sie eine der einflussreichsten Stoner Rock-Formationen. Nach dem Ende 1995 versuchte er sich an Projekten wie Slo Burn, Unida oder Hermano, stets unterstützt von einem Umfeld, das in der Alternative Rock-Szene seinesgleichen sucht. 2010 entstand aufgrund großer Nachfrage das Unternehmen ‚Garcia plays Kyuss‘, mit dem er als einziges Originalmitglied tourte.
