R.C.I.A. Call to Holiness—It is Catholic belief that God calls everyone to be holy. According to Vatican Council II: “Therefore in the Church, everyone…is called to holiness, according to the saying of the Apostle: ‘For this is the will of God, your sancti- fication’ (1 Thessalonians 4:3; see Ephesians 1:4)…It is expressed in multiple ways by those individuals who, in their walk of life, strive for the perfection of charity, and thereby help others to grow” (Dogmatic Constitution on the Church, #39). Living the Virtue—Virtues are nurtured attitudes and efforts to do good and give the best of ourselves. Virtues are disposi- tions that shape us into the people God created us to be. Virtuous people freely choose to cooperate with the grace of God. Catholic tradition distinguishes between human virtues which are acquired through our human efforts and theological virtues which are gifts from God.
