Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Lent 2018 is underway now that we have been signed with ashes on Ash Wednesday and had our first week of Lenten Fish Dinners in Kittanning and Fish Fry Dinners in Yatesboro. Help to spread the word of these dinners. Father Medil and I hope to see you there. On Friday, March 23, Bishop Malesic will be coming to Yatesboro and it will be another great day in the history of St. Mary, Mother of God Parish.

This weekend in Kittanning we will have the Rite of Sending at the 9:00 a.m. Mass and our three catechumens will be sent to the bishop for the Rite of Election at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral. Please continue to pray for Joshua Cicero, Bethany Fleming and Kasey Shondeck.

It is a great joy to have Joshua and Kasey, teenagers who are still in school, discerning their coming into the Catholic faith. They and the youth of our partner parishes are such an inspiration to me. Each of them are interested in the faith and learning how they can spread it in very difficult times. We do not conduct youth ministry on our own. The diocese helps with having a number of events that are open to our young people and assisting with funds for NCYC, National Catholic Youth Conference. All registered parishioners should have received information in the mail about the 2018 Diocesan Lenten Appeal. I ask each parish family to prayerfully consider a gift and help to make this year's DLA a great success in our partner parishes.

Congratulations to Ron and Carole Olszewski, parishioners of St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Kittanning, who celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary on February 15. May God bless them in their marriage and their commitment to Jesus and His Church.

I want to thank the three new businesses who are now supporting our partner parishes by advertising on our bulletin. Dimond Chiropractic, Nextier Bank and Shannock Hardware are on the back page of the bulletin. If you or someone you know would like to advertise on the bulletin, please contact Sue Novosel at (800)447-4574, extension 6318 or e-mail her at [email protected]. Thanks to all of the businesses and patrons who support our bulletin.
