City Hall Artspace Lofts: Dearborn – Cultural Connections East Dearborn Downtown The City of Dearborn is an urban center located directly west of and adjacent to the City of Detroit and a pillar of stability within Southeast . The community has many diverse neighborhoods that remain vibrant, safe and clean featuring great community amenities and an extensive recreational and open space park system. As the home and world headquarters to , a significant source of economic success, the City is comprised of many manufacturing and research facilities, offices and a wide variety of services all connected to an extensive transportation system centrally located between and the Detroit Metropolitan Airport. An Intermodal Passenger Rail Station is currently being constructed on the edge of the West Downtown District. The project is set to be complete in 2014. As the stations’ use increases with both intercity and commuter rail, the City will explore the option of adding a second station, located off Schaefer Road, adjacent to the East Downtown District. Dearborn has a rich history of being a melting pot, attracting generations of immigrants from over eighty cultures. The Detroit Metropolitan area, and Dearborn in particular, is nationally recognized as a center of immigration for persons of Arab descent. According to the 2008-2012 American Fact Finder data, 39.3% of Dearborn's population are of Arab Ancestry (compared to 30% in 2000 and 15.4% in 1990, U.S. Census).
