De Michel Foucault à Pierre Bourdieu, en passant par Le Clézio, la sélection pour le Prix Fu Lei présente une grande variété d’ouvrages. La littérature française ainsi traduite à l’intention des lecteurs chinois rayonne en Chine grâce au travail des traducteurs finalistes. Première sélection du Prix Fu Lei 2017, le 15/09/2017 à Pékin Les trois lauréats du Prix Fu Lei 2017 - dans les catégories « Littérature », « Essai » et « Jeune pousse » - seront révélés lors de la cérémonie de remise du prix les samedi 25 et dimanche 26 novembre. Les titres distingués dans les catégories « Littérature » et « Essai » recevront chacun une dotation de 4000€ (environ 30 800RMB) partagée entre le traducteur et l’éditeur, le traducteur récompensé du prix « Jeune pousse » recevra quant à lui 1500€ (environ 11 600RMB). Récompense pionnière, le Prix Fu Lei a récemment inspiré d’autres prix de la traduction. En Chine continentale, le Prix Chunfeng pour les livres a introduit une catégorie « Traduction ». À Taïwan (pour le chinois traditionnel) et à Rome (pour l’italien), il existe depuis peu des prix de la traduction similaires. La cérémonie du Prix Fu Lei aura lieu à la librairie Fang Suo Commune de Canton le 25 novembre 2017 en présence des lauréats, du jury et d’invités littéraires français et chinois prestigieux. Du côté français, les écrivains Jean Echenoz et François et Pierre-Henri Tavoillot seront les invités spéciaux du Prix Fu Lei 2017. Enfin, deux invités d’honneur chinois, l’écrivain Bi Feiyu ainsi que le commentateur et le chroniqueur Li Oufan, marqueront cette 9ème édition. Hommage à la traduction et la littérature françaises, des rencontres avec les traducteurs et les éditeurs seront organisées le dimanche 26 novembre, et seront suivies d’une séance de dédicaces des livres sélectionnés. Pour plus d’information, veuillez consulter le site ci-dessous : http://www.faguowenhua.com/fulei2017/ ANNEXE 1 : PRIX FU LEI DE LA TRADUCTION ET DE L'ÉDITION Dans le contexte de la toute nouvelle République Populaire de Chine, la littérature et la pensée françaises ont été parmi les premières influences intellectuelles en provenance de l’Occident. Ce sont de grands noms comme Voltaire, Rousseau, Montesquieu, Hugo et Balzac qui ont nourri l’esprit des lecteurs chinois de l’époque. Après l’ouverture du pays dès la fin des années 1970, davantage d’écrivains français ont pu être publiés en Chine, de Proust à Camus, de Sartre à Duras, en passant par Le Clézio et Modiano. Aujourd’hui la Chine est devenue le premier pays acheteur des droits de publication de livres français. En 2016 seulement, plus de 2110 contrats français ont été cédés à des éditeurs chinois (sans compter les très nombreux livres appartenant au domaine public). Dans ce processus de diffusion de la littérature française en Chine, le travail des traducteurs est absolument essentiel. « Sans les traducteurs, le lecteur est comme un malvoyant sous le ciel étoilé du monde littéraire » a déclaré Mme Tie Ning, Présidente de l’Association Nationale des Écrivains de Chine, lors de la cérémonie du Prix Fu Lei 2014. Créé en 2009 à l'initiative de l'ambassade de France en Chine avec des intellectuels chinois francophones représentés par le professeur Dong Qiang, le Prix Fu Lei a pour objectif de promouvoir l’importance de la traduction littéraire et la diffusion de la littérature en langue française en Chine. Ce Prix doit son nom au grand traducteur chinois Fu Lei (1908- 1966), qui a rendu accessibles aux lecteurs chinois les œuvres de Balzac, Voltaire ou Romain Rolland. Chaque année, le Prix Fu Lei récompense les deux meilleures traductions du français vers le mandarin publiées en Chine, dans les catégories « Littérature » et « Essai ». Depuis 2013 s'ajoute également un Prix « Jeune pousse », créé pour encourager la nouvelle génération de traducteurs. Le Prix Fu Lei a reçu le soutien de personnalités culturelles prestigieuses telles que le Prix Nobel de littérature JMG Le Clézio, l’écrivain français Olivier Rollin, le peintre Fan Zeng, les écrivains Yu Hua et Wang Anyi et la patronne de presse Hong Huang. En 2016, quatre personnalités françaises et chinoises nous ont fait l’honneur de leur présence, parmi lesquels le président-directeur général des Editions Gallimard – Antoine Gallimard, l’aventurier et écrivain, président de la Guilde européenne du Raid – Sylvain Tesson, l’artiste et critique d’art – Xu Lei, ou encore l’auteure chinoise à succès Zhang Yueran. L’aide que l’ambassade de France en Chine apporte à la traduction et publication en chinois d’ouvrages en français ne se résume pas uniquement au Prix Fu Lei, qui est l’un des cinq piliers de « l’Académie Fu Lei ». Depuis 1991, le programme d’aide à la publication Fu Lei, destiné aux maisons d’édition chinoises, a soutenu la publication en Chine d’environ 1000 romans et essais en langue française. S’y ajoutent des conférences d’auteurs chinois (Yu Hua, Liu Zhenyun, Bi Feiyu, Chi Zijian, A Yi…) sur la littérature française, un Club de discussions autour de la traduction et des formations biannuelles de traducteurs. It argues that the practice of collecting is an epistemological attempt or a “cultural technique,” as formulated by the German media theorist Bernhard Siegert, to grasp the world in its myriad materiality and historicity. Through experiments on novel ways to reconfigure objects and study them as media on which intangible experiences are recorded, collectors cling to the authenticity of past events, preserve memory through ownership, and forge an intimate relationship with these objects.

Hardly ever do you hear a critic say the translation of a book is “good”. In the best of cases people pretend that, even though they have been reading a translation, they were in fact reading Balzac, or Dostoevsky, or any other author of universal renown. For those who are able to read the original text, the translation is more often than not rejected as “inaccurate,” “stylistically inadequate,” “loose,” “overly free,” “not doing justice to the original,” or simply “bad”. James Payn even claimed that Balzac “is not translatable, or when translated is not readable” (67). However rhetorical such a statement might be, there is no doubt that the task of the literary translator is challenging. In 1967, Fritz Senn rightfully remarked: “... the translator is in a much worse position than critics or commentators are. They can afford to be highly selective and parade their scraps of insight and erudition with an air of being at home equally well in any place of the book—but the translator cannot shirk a single issue” (176). Faced with such difficulties, whether stylistic or content- related, the translator has to make decisions. These may not please everyone, yet they are genuine literary interpretations of the source text. Thus Chan Leo Tak-Hung’s notion that literary translation criticism should “cease to consist of a cataloguing of mistakes and errors of various sorts” (17) and consider instead the translated text as a new text, is appealing.
