As we close out another year at Mullen High School we wish to thank those people that are often behind the scenes and yet are essential to the operation of any school or busi ness. Without these peoples' hard work we couldn't have had such a great year. These people are often overlooked and yet work as hard or harder than the rest of us In making our school the best. Thanks folks and keep up the good work.

The One-Act Play cast had a very successful year. Their play was titled "After Midnight-Before Dawn." "After Midnight-Before Dawn" Is a psycho logical thriller which takes place In a prison cell and Involved six characters who are awaiting death, having been sentenced for witchcraft, the period being the late 1600s or early 1700s. Only the Calm Woman remains un moved. On being questioned she re plies that she will not hang- the Devil will look after his own. The others con clude that she Is Indeed a witch, and beg her to tell them how they too may gain Satan's protection. Only the Girl protests, and they set on her and kill her. But the Calm Woman then Informs them that she has not after all offered them any guarantee of safety and that there never was a Satan, their own fears produced him In their minds. In a wild fury they set on her also - and her prophesy is fulfilled - she will not hang. The actors and actresses did an excellent job placing first at Sandhills Conference, third at Loup Valley Con ference, and third at Districts with a superior rating.

Spanish Club keeps growing every year and this year was no exception. We boasted 25 members who all en joyed a variety of fun-filled activities throughout the school year. At the beginning of the year we took a trip to North Platte to see per formances by the Bostion Flamenco Ballet. The ballet featured a dance and musical interpretation of Colum bus' voyage to the new world In hon or of the Qulncentennlal, plus a hi larious Cyrano de Bergerac, and also the Three Musqueteers, featuring a sword demonstration.

24 Spanish fun nightS Included a Christmas party, supper and gift exchange in December, a "mini-lock in" In March, and the annual family night in May, held this year at the pool park, featuring a carry In supper and barbecue, with entertainment scenes, a fashion show, meeting vaqueros, Introductions, and "Adivlnemos el precio" ("The Price is Right") with contestants Bob Beitel, Beth Marks, Cathy Nichols and T. J . Harding picked from the audience. This summer, the advanced students are hoping to take a trip to the southwest, focusing on the Spanish culture of New Mexico and Arizona, and students from this year's Spanish I and II classes are planning a study trip to Cuernavaca, Mexico in the summer of 94. All in all, a great year ... Viva el espanol!

The Mullen High choir has had a very successful year. Under the di rection of Mr. Corey Jenkins and his very talented accompanist Lois Folk. The chorus and girls triple trio both acquired a 2 rating at Chadron. Many solos and duets also did extremely well. The choir had three concerts this year, one at Christmas and two this spring. Mr. Jenkins will be missed greatly by the returning band and choir students. We all wish him the best of luck! Bye, Mr. Jenkins!!

29 The MHS Art Club had another productive year. The students brought home a number of trophies, plaques and ribbons for their efforts. In the Loup Valley Conference show Brent D. brought home a first place, Chessney a second and Suzie a third place ribbon. But the real winner was Richard L., bringing home all three of the top ribbons in the 3-D category. At Keya Paha the club brought home 68 ribbons in all, with 3 'Best Of Shows' going to Chessney, Cooper and Richard. Way to Go People, We're Proud of You!!

The 1991 Volleyball season was one not to be forgotten. There were many excitements and a few disappointments, but overall it was a great season. A highlight of the year was defeating the previously unbeaten Ansley. Although the Lady Broncos were stopped at sub districts by Arnold and could not advante onto Districts or their goal of State, the final record of 14-6 proved a successful season. The girls were trained by their influential coaches Mr. Stewart and Miss Edgren to show dedication and sportsmanship throughout the games.

The 1992 wrestling team sent eleven to the state wrestling tournament In Lincoln, Nebraska. This sought after goal was achieved through the determination and extreme effort: put forth by all fifteen wrestlers. Through out the season the wrestlers strived for excellence which they achieved at the state wrestling tournament by placing 3rd as team.

44 Individually Matthew Rogers achieved something very few wrestlers have accomplished, by being a three time STATE CHAMPION . Other place winners were Andy Wright - 2nd, Rich ard Licking - 5th, and Mike Kvanvig 6th. All in All, the '92 season was a lot of fun and re warding.

50 51 Homecoming 1991 "Operation Bronco Stampede" was a blasting suc cess! The warheads built ass during Spirit Week as MHS ers dressed as their favorite teachers, as cowboys, in black and gold, and hats, shades, and shorts. Nights were busy with float decorating, and something new this year. The happenin' Seniors sponsored a bonfire at the fairgrounds. Through the blaze of glory, the cheer leaders led chants which really got everyone's adrenalln pumpin'. On Into the night Spirit kept rockin'. Friday's took all the action to the streets. The sun was hot and so were the floats! Heat radiated throughout the Lariat during the volleyball games. The football game was cooler, but the action wasn't. Homecoming wound down with the S.C.U.D. (Sensationally Cool Unbelievable Dance). Another Homecoming is done and over with, leaving only the haze from great memories.

69 Elementary: We're on Our Way ._CLOSIH This year we have watched our school handle disappointments and successes. We, at MHS, fol lowed the girls, volleyball team through a dif ficult season, but one that provided a lot of excitement. In football, it looked as if we would repeat our state win, but fell short in the end. The boys, basketball team had a very successful year to make up for the struggling, young girls, team. The wrestlers, though they didn't win .state, had a good year also. In other activities MHS showed its pride and leadership. The Mullen FHA chapter was very successful this year by qualifYing five for Nationals and making other improvements within our school and community. BART, Span ish club, and Art club also were making head lines with their activities. Students did well in competing at Scholastic contests too. As for world news, we saw the break up of the Soviet Union and the failure of communism in these states. American hostages were released and finally sent home. The United States, though denied by President Bush, is in a recession. Peace talks failed in the Middle East. Los Angeles police were put on trial for the beating ofRodney King and riots broke out in LA and other U.S. cities due to the verdict. Many MHS students get the chance to exercise their right to vote this election year and maybe make some needed changes.

"ANDY!!!" All through the high school year we have seen our teachers as se rious, hard-working leaders as they like to appear to their stu dents, but we see them now as they really are.

1. Yvonne catching up on the latest hap penin~ around town. 2. Mr. Brost pretending he is smart enough to play . 3. Mary Lou being her usual cheerful self while Mr. Mandeville is trying to figure out what is going on. 4. We sure are glad that Mrs. Pile can figure out these wonderful machines. 5 . Mr. Ford doing what he does best. NOT! 6 . Mr. Tuton making a plan to get Tom Pile back for ail the rotten tricks he pulled on him. 7. Mr. Jenkins thinking of a way to control his huge classes. 8. Thinking up another fish story, eh, Mr. Pile? 9. " Oh, I'm so busy. I don't know if I' m going to get done before graduation. 78 "Gosh, look at all those zeroes!"

Is Kathy telling blonde jokes again?

Strange activity among the Juniors today. What's In the bag Chessney?

Tom planning for Mr. T's class.

Who Is this masked man?

Just hanging out with the guys. "Psstl There he Is again."
