Thank You for Your Inspiration thank you for your inspiration 2007 BCIT Foundation Report on Giving inspired to give . thank you The BCIT Foundation sincerely thanks all our donors for inspiring contributions to BCIT and its students. Your gifts provide meaningful support for students through awards, scholarships and bursaries, and enable our Schools to deliver programs of exceptional quality and value for both students and employers. In-kind gifts of software and equipment allow students to reinforce what they are learning and how it applies to the real world. Legacy gifts ensure access to education now and in the future. On behalf of our current and future students, we are grateful for your commitment to excellence at BCIT. Nancy Ricard :: BURSARY AND AWARD RECIPIENT 2 Financial support just in time Nancy Ricard faced exceptional personal and fi nancial challenges while working towards her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing at BCIT. A single mother of four children, Nancy’s education was completely funded by federal and provincial loans. Financial pressures and the need to take care of her children motivated her to apply for a bursary in January 2006. BCIT FOUNDATION REPORT ON GIVING REPORT BCIT FOUNDATION Soon after she applied, her children’s father was tragically killed in a fi re that 2007 burned down their family home in Whitehorse. “By March 1, I had less than $1,000 to live on after I had covered all of my expenses with student loans,” said Nancy. “I became very ill and needed medical care. I had to seriously consider quitting school in order to get a job and support my family.” BCIT came through just in time. Three donor-funded bursaries enabled Nancy to provide for her family while working towards her degree. “BCIT’s fi nancial support was directly instrumental to my being able to continue school instead of quitting to fi nd work to support my family. Thank you for your kindness.” Nancy completed her degree with honours in December 2006, and has successfully embarked on her chosen career – she is now a full-time nurse at the Langley Public Health Unit. inspired to help students .
