IFFI's Golden Jubilee Edition to be held from Nov 20 till 28 in

The GoldenJubilee Edition of International Film Festival of , IFFI will be held from 20th Nov till 28th November 2019 in Panaji, Goa. Minister for Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar gave this information to mediapersons after the steering committee meeting of IFFI 2019 in Panaji. Mr Javadekar said, it is our pride and road shows will be organised in seven cities. He added that business exhibition will showcase the latest technology, film production and distribution and other aspects regarding films. To mark 150th birthanniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, separate exhibition will be held. The Minister said, students from FTII and Satyajit Ray Institute of India and students from some other film institutes will be a part of it to gain some hands-on experience. He said, President of Oscar Academy John Bailey and other eminent cinematographers and producers have been invited for the event. Russia will be IFFI partner in this edition.

Digital literacy initiative for women

Reliance Jio Infocomm has partnered with GSMA’s Connected Women Initiative to bridge the gender gap in digital adoption and digital literacy among women. Reliance Jio and GSMA will work towards empowering more women with increased access to, and use of, life-enhancing digital services. The gender gap in mobile adoption in India persists due to a lack of access, affordability and inclusion in the digital revolution.

World Bank to offer $250 million to Kerala for disaster management

The first tranche of $250 million of the $500 million fund set aside by the World Bank for the ResilientKerala Programme (RKP) to help improve the state's resilience against natural disasters and climate change has been cleared, according to a top bank official. Kerala has become the first Indian state to get this fund, said Junaid Ahmad, Country Director, World Bank, India, in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday. "The future of India is in the states and hence we decided to invest in state schemes besides concentrating on citizen-centric programmes.

RBI slaps ₹7-cr penalty on SBI The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of ₹7 crore on State Bank of India. The penalty is for non-compliance with the directions issued by the RBI on Income Recognition and Asset Classification (IRAC) norms, code of conduct for opening and operating current accounts and reporting of data on Central Repository of Information on Large Credits (CRILC) and fraud risk management and classification and reporting of frauds, the central bank said in a statement. “This penalty has been imposed in exercise of powers vested in RBI under the Banking Regulation Act, 1949. This action is based on deficiencies in regulatory compliance and is not intended to pronounce upon the validity of any transaction or agreement entered into by the bank with its customers,”

U.S. sets $5 bn fine for Facebook

U.S. regulators have approved a $5 billion penalty to be levied on Facebook to settle a probe into the social network’s privacy and data protection lapses. According to the report, the deal, which would be the largest penalty ever imposed by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for privacy violations.

Kalraj Mishra appointed Himachal Pradesh Governor, shifted to Gujarat

Senior BJP leader was on July 15 appointed as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh, replacing Acharya Devvrat, who has been transferred and appointed as the Governor of Gujarat. A Rashtrapati Bhavan press communique said the appointments of Mr. Mishra and Mr. Devvrat will come into effect from the dates they assume charge of their respective offices. Mr. Mishra (78) had resigned from the -led government as Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in 2017 after he crossed the age of 75, the BJP’s unofficial age limit for holding an elected post. The Uttar Pradesh leader did not contest the last Lok Sabha election. Mr. Devvrat (60) was appointed as Governor of Himachal Pradesh in 2015. He will replace Governor of Gujarat O.P. Kohli, who retires on Monday.

Kiran More Appointed Interim USA Cricket Coach

Former India wicketkeeper-batsman Kiran More has been appointed the interim coach of the USA cricket team. More will take over from the former coach Pubudu Dassanayake of Sri Lanka, whose contract was to end by March 2019 but was extended to December 2019, resigned due to differences with the USA Cricket board.

Chandrakant Kavlekar to Become New Deputy CM in Goa

Former leader of opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar and Deputy Speaker Michael Lobo were among the four legislators inducted into the Goa cabinet. Kavlekar has will be sworn in as deputy chief minister of the state on Monday.

Samajwadi Party leader Neeraj Shekhar quits Rajya Sabha Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Neeraj Shekhar on Monday resigned as a member of Rajya Sabha and his resignation was accepted by Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu. Fifty-year-old Shekhar, son of former Prime Minister and socialist leader Chandra Shekhar, was sent to the Upper House by the SP after he lost the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Ballia.

Pernell Whitaker, an Olympic gold medallist and four-division champion who was regarded as one of the greatest defensive fighters ever, has died after being hit by a car in Virginia. He was 55.

Gold for Vinesh Phogat at Yasar Dogu International in Istanbul

Vinesh Phogat won her second consecutive gold in 53kg, winning the Yasar DoguInternational in Istanbul. India to host ISSF World Cup in March 2020

The International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) has confirmed the dates, March 15 to 26, for the World Cup in rifle, pistol and shot gun to be hosted at the Dr. Karni Singh Range, Tughlakabad, in 2020. This will be preceded by the Shotgun World Cup in Nicosia, Cyprus, from March 4 to 13. The World Cup in rifle, pistol and shotgun, a test event for the Olympics, will be staged in Tokyo from April 15 to 27. It will be followed by the World Cup in rifle and pistol in Munich, Germany, from June 2 to 9, and the combined World Cup for all three events in Baku, Azerbaijan, from June 22 to July 3.
