The Democratic president signed an executive order aimed at closing loopholes in existing "Buy American" provisions, which apply to about a third of the $600 billion in goods and services the federal government buys each year. The order will make any waivers more transparent and create a senior White House role to oversee the process. China overtook the United States as the world's top manufacturer in 2010, and was responsible for 28% of global output in 2018, according to United Nations data. 50 lakh doses of COVID 19 vaccine from Serum Institute of India arrive in Dhaka The first instalment of 50 lakh doses of the COVID 19 vaccine from Serum Institute of India (SII) arrived in Dhaka. This is part of the agreement for the purchase of 30 million doses of the vaccine for which Beximco Pharmaceuticals Limited (BPL) had signed a tripartite agreement with the SII on December 13 last year. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to inaugurate the vaccination programme in Dhaka from Wednesday. A nurse of the Kurmitola general hospital in Dhaka will receive the first vaccine shot. Quazi Sajjad Ali Zahir has been awarded Padma Shri for his contribution in the field of Public Affairs. Lt. Col. Zahir is a veteran of the 1971 Liberation War of Bangladesh. He deserted the Pakistan army and crossed over to India to fight the liberation war of Bangladesh. He organized the 2nd Artillery Force under Sector 4 in the Sylhet region. Sanjida Khatun is a renowned cultural figure of Bangladesh. She is an eminent Rabindra Sangeet exponent and musicologist. She played a prominent role in organising artists of the then East Pakistan during the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971. India, UK emphasize need for strengthening international cooperation to combat terrorism India and the United Kingdom emphasized the need for strengthening international cooperation to combat the global menace of terrorism including cross border terrorism in South Asia. India and the United Kingdom stressed that all the countries must take immediate action to ensure that territories under their control should not be used for terrorist attacks. The two sides exchanged ideas for further strengthening bilateral cooperation in countering radicalisation and violent extremism, combating financing of terrorism, preventing exploitation of the internet for terrorism, information sharing and capacity building.     22 Mass Communication THE Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, through the mass communication media consisting of radio, television, films, press and print publications, advertising and traditional modes of communication such as dance and drama, plays an effective role in helping people to have access to free flow of information. The Ministry is involved in catering to the entertainment needs of various age groups and focusing attention of the people on issues of national integrity, environmental protection, health care and family welfare, eradication of illiteracy and issues relating to women, children, minority and other disadvantaged sections of the society. The Ministry is divided into four wings i.e., the Information Wing, the Broadcasting Wing, the Films Wing and the Integrated Finance Wing. The Ministry functions through its 21 media units/ attached and subordinate offices, autonomous bodies and PSUs. The Information Wing handles policy matters of the print and press media and publicity requirements of the Government. This Wing also looks after the general administration of the Ministry. The Broadcasting Wing handles matters relating to the electronic media and the regulation of the content of private TV channels as well as the programme matters of All India Radio and Doordarshan and operation of cable television and community radio, etc. Electronic Media Monitoring Centre (EMMC), which is a subordinate office, functions under the administrative control of this Division. The Film Wing handles matters relating to the film sector. It is involved in the production and distribution of documentary films, development and promotional activities relating to the film industry including training, organization of film festivals, import and export regulations, etc.

    MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS PRESS NOTE North Block, New Delhi-1 Dated the 25th January, 2021 Padma Awards - one of the highest civilian Awards of the country, are conferred in three categories, namely, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. The Awards are given in various disciplines/ fields of activities, viz.- art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc. ‘Padma Vibhushan’ is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service; ‘Padma Bhushan’ for distinguished service of high order and ‘Padma Shri’ for distinguished service in any field. The awards are announced on the occasion of Republic Day every year. 2. These awards are conferred by the President of India at ceremonial functions which are held at Rashtrapati Bhawan usually around March/ April every year. This year the President has approved conferment of 119 Padma Awards including 1 duo case (in a duo case, the Award is counted as one) as per list below. The list comprises 7 Padma Vibhushan, 10 Padma Bhushan and 102 Padma Shri Awards. 29 of the awardees are women and the list also includes 10 persons from the category of Foreigners/NRI/PIO/OCI, 16 Posthumous awardees and 1 transgender awardee.
