Minnesota State Council Knights of Columbus

Dear Knights of Columbus Chaplains and Brother Priests:

As many of you know, the Knights of Columbus has a long history of fostering devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary under her many . The featured image for this program is an etching of the Holy Family by Giovanni Balestra (1774 -1842). The original etching, based on a painting by Giovanni Battista Salvi de Sassoferrato (1609 -1685), is housed in the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family in Rome.

The inauguration ceremony of the Holy Family Prayer Program was conducted August 4, 2015 at the 133rd Supreme Convention in Philadelphia a few weeks before that city hosted the 8th World Meeting of Families, held for the first time in the United States. The ceremony was presided over by Charles J. Chaput of Philadelphia. These beautiful icons, along with prayer books and prayer cards are traveling throughout Minnesota, the U.S., and the world.

The images were blessed by Francis on June 29, 2015, the Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul, through the auspices of the Almoner of , Archbishop Konrad Krajewski. Under the guidance of the state deputies, these framed images are brought on pilgrimage from council to council throughout each jurisdiction.

“The future of the world and of the Church passes through the family, ” observed St. John Paul II, whom Pope Francis called “the Pope of the Family. ” Recognizing the vital role of families in the world, the Knights of Columbus has dedicated its 17th Order wide prayer program to the Holy Family, to strengthen Catholic fami- lies and their prayer lives.

The Marian Hour of Prayer consists of hymns, Liturgy of the Word, homily, Prayers of Intercession, Rosary, Litany of the Blessed Virgin, and concluding prayers. Please take time to lead the Marion Hour of Prayer for the Knights of Columbus and your parishioners. Everyone is invited to participate.

Please say, “Yes, ” when asked to lead the Marian Hour of Prayer, with the attitude of the Blessed Mother: “I am the handmaid of the Lord. ” Luke 1:28

May God bless you for your help and support.

Yours in Christ,

Father Jeff Horejsi Minnesota Knights of Columbus State Chaplain
