BLAKE HOWE is Assistant Professor of Musicology at Louisiana State University. His research interests include disability studies, nineteenth-century German song, and film music. He has pub- lished articles in the leading journals of his field, including the Journal of the American Musicological Society, Music Theory Spectrum, The Journal of Musicology, and The Musical Quarterly. He is co-editor of The Oxford Handbook of Music and Disability Studies (Oxford University Press) and Recording Reviews Editor for the journal Nineteenth-Century Music Review. Before turning to musicology, he participated in numerous music festivals and institutes as a baritone, including the Amherst Festival, Aspen Opera Theater Center, and the Franz-Schubert-Institut; opera roles included Elviro (Handel’s Serse) and Consalvo (Handel’s Almira).

ALISON SANDERS MCFARLAND (Associate Professor of Musicology). McFarland joined the LSU faculty in 1998. She holds the B.A. degree from Chapman College, the M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from University of California, Santa Barbara. McFarland held a Fulbright Fellowship to Rome in 1993-94, and a Rotary International Foundation Scholarship to London in 1994-95. She is published in the International Journal of Musicology, has an article forthcoming in Music and Letters, and has delivered papers at several professional meetings, including regional meetings of the American Musicological Society, Society for Music Theory, and Society for Ethnomusicology. McFarland’s teaching experience includes an assistant professorship at the University of Texas, El Paso, from 1996 to 1998, and a lectureship at University of California, Santa Barbara in 1995 to 1996. Her research interests include sacred music of the 15th and 16th centuries, papal patronage and Roman music, and 19th- and 20th-century music in England.

ROXANA PAVEL GOLDSTEIN, a native of Romania, came to the US in 1996 with a scholarship to study violin with Cyrus Furough. She has won numerous prizes at major competitions including First and Second Prize at the Cita di Stessa International Competition in Italy, as well as First Prize in the Rembrandt Chamber Music Competition. She took First Prize at the coveted Lyre of Gold Competition in Bacau Romania. In 1997, she performed in a masterclass for Maxim Vengerov. More recently she won the DePaul Annual Concerto Competition in 2002. She received full scholarship to attend many of the country’s most prestigious summer music fes- tivals including the Interlochen Arts Camp and the Chautauqua Summer Institute. Roxana was of- ten the concertmaster of the DePaul Symphony Orchestra, where she completed her Masters Degree under the tutelage of Mark Zinger. She is an active chamber musician and soloist, and has appeared with the Concertanti Di Chicago, the Rembrandt Chamber Players, and will perform chamber works together with internationally reknown artists such as Eteri Anjaparidze and Steve Balderston.
