Season's Greetings from AMSOL The exoskeleton concept offered by GTT, and developed in partnership with TECHNOLOG, consists of a structure that can be prebuilt on the dock and then installed as a complete unit in the hull of the vessel. This greatly reduces the con struction time of the ship at the yard and eliminates the necessity to go into dry dock. new possibility for owners to more easily refit existing vessels with an LNG fuel system. Switching to using LNG as a ship fuel will mean a vessel will comply with incoming restrictions on the use of high sulphurs fuels “The GASA approval issued by DNV GL is very important for us, as it shows that the new solution can be ordered and retrofitted today,” says Philippe Berterottière, Chairman and CEO of GTT. “It will allow interested shipowners to get ahead of the IMO’s 2020 Global Sulphur Cap regulations, giving customers and charterers greater certainty as we head to this significant regulatory change. By bringing this solution to market, GTT reaffirms its position as an innovative provider for the industry, continually working to optimize our customer’s operational performance.” “This advanced technology is a milestone for cost-effective LNG retrofit and newbuilding solutions for larger vessels. With introduction of LNG as ship fuel there are immediate benefits to ship owners related to a reduced carbon dioxide footprint (EEDI) as well as all other harmful exhaust emissions,” said Hans-Jürgen Voigt, Shareholder and Managing Director of TECHNOLOG. “We congratulate GTT and TECHNOLOG on achieving this milestone,” says Knut Ørbeck-Nilssen, CEO DNV GL – Maritime. “This innovative new solution offers forward thinking shipowners another option when they are considering LNG as a ship fuel and will help to continue the development of this important technology. We look forward to building on this excellent cooperation with GTT and TECHNOLOG in the future.” A General Approval for Ship Application (GASA) is a full approval of the technology under consideration, according to the DNV GL Rules for Classification, which examines a typical installation of the technology in a vessel. ANGULAR BOOM TIP BY AMPELMANN LETS WORKERS SAFELY INSTALL NEW OFFSHORE WIND FARM Ampelmann, the global leader in offshore access solutions, has created, in cooperation with Seaway Heavy Lifting, an industry first innovation allowing workers safe and efficient access to install the jackets for 84 wind turbines on the Beatrice Offshore Windfarm Limited project in the Outer Moray Firth. Global offshore contractor Seaway Heavy Lifting awarded the EPCI contract to Ampelmann to design and create an Angular Boom Tip. This will allow secure connection at difficult angles for safe gangway transfer between the 5,000 tonne heavy lift vessel (HLV) Oleg Strashnov and the 2,500 tonne HLV Stanislav Yudin to install 84 individual wind turbines. Conventional gangway tips are rounded which can fit on the majority of offshore wind turbines or offshore assets. However, due to the size of the HLV, its close proximity to the jackets and the location of its access gates, Ampelmann custom-made the V-shaped tip at the end of the 25-metre gangway to give workers easy access to build and manage each new wind structure. Friso Talsma, Ampelmann’s Manager Sales and Business Development for Offshore Wind said: “Though the tip is a quite a straightforward piece of steel, the rubber covered angular shape now allows us to land at difficult angles as small as 45 degrees, while eliminating the risk of gaps between gangway and structure. It’s a new innovation, tailor-made for this particular project and overcomes a significant safety and potentially costly challenge faced by the operators to ensure safe access to the structures. It’s an industry first and no other competitor has such a solution.” The design, development and installation of the detachable tip took around two months and is deployed on the Beatrice project using the company’s A-type motion compensated gangway system which is able to transfer people with zero movement in significant wave heights of up to three metres. Talsma continued: “This type of solution can also be adopted by the oil and gas industry in certain situations. For example, if the type of angles change, the tip can be adapted to suit and solve that problem or a new bespoke version created. Ampelmann is always open and flexible to find solutions for our customers. No is never the answer. We have so much experience of Walk to Work in the offshore industry that we are fully aware of the challenges and the potential solutions.” The Beatrice Offshore Windfarm Limited Project is expected to power approximately 450,000 homes - around three times the number of homes in the Moray and Highland regions of Scotland. Offshore construction began in 2017 and is expected to become fully operational in 2019. MULLER STRENGTHENS FLEET WITH ASD TUG “EN AVANT 30” Towage and heavy transport specialist MULLER Dordrecht has further strengthened its multipurpose fleet with the latest addition of the ASD tug EN AVANT 30. By continuing to invest in its multipurpose fleet, MULLER Dordrecht is ensuring growth and maintains its strong position in the market now and in the future. With this ASD tug, MULLER is able to both serve clients in the offshore market, and operate harbour assistance service in the major ports surrounding the Port of Rotterdam region. In a nutshell, the specifications of the EN AVANT 30 are as impressive as the 110-ton bollard pull vessel, which was built by the Astilleros Armon Vigo Shipyard in Spain in 2011 and is equipped to undertake a range of services including (deep sea) towage, escort, anchor-handling, fire-fighting (FIFI 2), salvage and harbour assistance.

Offshore Wind Industry Could Spend USD 119 Million on Helicopters by 2022 Westwood Global Energy Group expects USD 119 million of offshore wind-related helicopter expenditure over the period 2018- 2022 with a CAGR of 39%, as the world could see the number of installed offshore wind turbines reaching 10,000 by 2022. This is according to Westwood’s annual World Offshore Helicopter Market Forecast, covering the period 2018-2022, which states that global helicopter fleet utilisation hit a low of 54% in 2017 due to falling demand and increased supply from orders placed pre-downturn in the oil & gas market However, Westwood sees significant opportunities for the supply chain both in emerging geographies and in offshore wind, and predicts global utilisation to pick up to an average of 59% for the medium and large helicopter fleet. On growth opportunities in the offshore wind industry, Steve Robertson, Head of OFS Research at Westwood Global Energy Group said: “As the next generation of projects becomes commercially competitive and developers build further from shore, clusters of projects will likely share infrastructure and logistics. Helicopter operators that get in early will benefit from this future growth.”In offshore oil & gas as the primary market, Westwood expects helicopter expenditure to total USD 16 billion over 2018-2022, growing at a CAGR of 1% over the period, a modest rate of recovery that has been anticipated by the supply chain and according to which helicopter operators have re-structured and re-organised. source : offshore wind

The CARNIVAL SUNSHINE Photo : René Serrao . Portuguese Cove, NS (c) Carnival Cruise Line will move the 3,002-passenger Carnival Sunshine to Charleston, S.C., in 2019, the first time a ship of that size will be stationed in the city for year-round cruising. The Sunshine will replace the 2,056-passenger Carnival Ecstasy on four- and five-day itineraries beginning May 18, 2019. Although it hasn't been based there, the Sunshine made 11 calls in Charleston in 2016 and 2017 on seasonal migration cruises between Florida and New York, said Terry Thornton, Carnival's senior vice president of itinerary planning. The Sunshine's Charleston calls helped establish that provisioning, parking and other logistics for the larger ship could be handled by the port, and that it would not overwhelm traffic flows, Thornton said. Charleston's terminal is in a tight location in the downtown area. Port authorities since 2012 have been trying to build a new terminal with a better approach but environmental and historic preservation activists have opposed it. In October, a South Carolina state court of appeal sided with the port in saying the improvement could proceed. The project still needs approval from the U.S. Corps of Engineers, however, and that is pending. Thornton said that even without the new terminal, Carnival and the port can tweak things to make logistics more efficient. The Sunshine, in addition to having more cabins than the Ecstasy (including 500 balcony cabins compared to 99), has a full FunShip 2.0 package of restaurants, bars and play areas, including a three-deck, adults-only Serenity area. When the Sunshine moves to Charleston, the Ecstasy will go to Jacksonville for four- and five-day cruises, bumping the Carnival Elation to Port Canaveral, where it will also do four- and five-day cruises, joining the Carnival Liberty, which does three- and four-day cruises. Carnival hasn't offered four- and five-day itineraries from Port Canaveral for a while, Thornton said. He said demand for cruises from Charleston is strong while supply is limited to 104 calls a year under a voluntary port-imposed cap. "We find that home port markets that have their own very strong tourism appeal help us in a big way," Thornton said. "Charleston obviously has that. It's a great destination by itself."

GRANDE_GHANA (IT) arrived on 07-12 and departed from Haifa on 8-12-2017. Photo : Peter Szamosi (c) Hutchison’s atrocious safety record worsens as another worker is killed in Jakarta The international maritime community is again in mourning following the death of an Indonesian worker on the job at the Hutchison terminal in Jakarta International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) President Paddy Crumlin said: “This will be a heart-wrenching time for this man’s family, friends and workmates. The ITF extend our thoughts to them all.” Serikat Pekerja Jakarta International Container Terminal (SPJICT) chair, Nova Hakim, said: “We are shocked and alarmed by the continuing carnage at the Hutchison’s terminal in Jakarta. Two workers have died within two months, and four within the past 15 months. This is an atrocious record that speaks for itself.” The ITF and SPJICT are calling on the company to conduct an official inquiry into the death and the circumstance surrounding how this worker fell overboard. The incident again raises serious questions about Hutchison’s safety procedures. Paddy Crumlin added: ““Hutchison needs to answer serious questions. Was this man provided with adequate fall protection? Was the outboard fencing on this vessel complete and compliant with international and class standards? “Falls from height – and falls overboard – are 100% preventable. On a modern vessel, there is no reason why a worker should die from a fall from height with proper inspections, proper management of the work environment, proper equipment and engineering controls. “When a person falls overboard, management are often quick to blame the worker. We need to dig deeper to find the root causes of this horrible tragedy. “Did management inspect the vessel on arrival? This is essential practice. Every ship must be inspected, even if it has been worked with many times before. A report or checklist must be done, setting out any deficiencies that were identified. A plan must be made to manage risk of the deficiencies. That’s 100%

exhausts and protect the areas surrounding the outlets. Exhaust scrubbers are systems that filter out all harmful toxins from exhaust gasses of marine diesel engines. This scrubber removes nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides, hydrocarbons, heavy metals, carbon monoxide, soot and ashes. No pollutants are discharged into air. This minimizes the environmental footprint and impact of navigation in ports and coastal areas. Several benefits make Ecospeed the perfect choice as coating for the exterior outlets as well as the interiors of the scrubber. Ecospeed is highly chemically resistant. Taking into account the nature of the process taking place inside the scrubber, this was essential for the customer. Ecospeed lasts the lifetime of a vessel. No repaints will need to be scheduled during future dockings of the ship. This saves on time and money. Ecospeed has been given a B1 classification by DNV GL after testing the coating’s suitability as a ballast tank coating. B1 is the superior grade in a six grade classification system. Ecospeed is a TBT-free, copper-free and biocide-free solution. Independent research has proven that the coating is 100% toxin-free and that there is no negative effect on the water quality or the marine environment at any point of its application or use. Because of the tight regulations on emissions in the shipping industry, the installation of an exhaust scrubber system becomes increasingly widespread. A durable coating to protect the inside of these scrubbers is needed. Ecospeed fits in seamlessly with the environmental idea behind the systems. Superyacht refit overspend dispute illustrates danger of acting outside contract International Transport Intermediaries Club (ITIC) has warned against the dangers of marine service providers informally offering advice which falls outside the scope otheir contracts. ITIC cites the case of a yacht manager contracted to provide crew management and ISM consultancy for a superyacht. Although the manager was not contracted to provide technical management, the owner sought its advice on two refits. The manager reviewed the scope of works and the budgets from the refit yards as a favour to its client. Unfortunately, both refit budgets overran and the owner claimed that the manager had been in breach of its duty of care by failing to recommend suitable repair yards, failing to budget properly and failing to properly supervise the refits. The owner alleged that, while the management contracts had said that the manager was not providing technical management, it had in fact done so. The owner made a formal claim against the manager for EUR900,000 and a sole arbitrator was appointed by the parties. The manager denied that it had accepted any responsibility for the refits, maintaining that the owner’s own staff had chosen the yards. The manager had commented on the scope of works and the budgets provided and, far from managing the refits, had simply been kept in the loop in correspondence, despite the owner’s claim that it had expected the manager to take an active role. The arbitrator found that the majority of overspend was due to the works which were required by the yacht’s classification society. The owner had not suffered a loss due to the alleged negligence of its manager, and the owner was obliged to pay the costs to keep the yacht in class. Ultimately, ITIC agreed to the payment of $25,000 in settlement, much less than the owner claimed it had incurred in legal costs. ITIC also paid the cost of defending the claim of over $110,000. ITIC says, “Although the owner’s allegations lacked merit, the claim is an illustration of the dangers of informally providing advice outside the scope of the contract.”

Man rescued after fall inside bulk container ship in Chesapeake Bay A man has been rescued after falling inside a bulk container ship in the Chesapeake Bay, Anne Arundel County fire officials said. Idle containership numbers fall again, but newbuilds and M&A are a threat By Mike Wackett The number of containerships in hot or cold lay-up has fallen to 114, from 136 in the past two weeks. According to Alphaliner, which warned that newbuild deliveries and M&A activity could reverse the downward trend. The analyst said the amount of idle cellular tonnage had declined from 520,365 teu to 464,802 teu, or 2.2% of the total global fleet, due to “unusual strength during the traditionally slow winter season”. Brokers are reporting strong demand in all the smaller sectors, including the hitherto challenged classic panamax vessels of 4,000-5,100 teu, of which there are now just 20 unemployed – the lowest level since 2015. Charterers are being attracted to open panamax ships, which at a daily rate of around $7,500 are some $500-$750 cheaper than smaller 1,500-3,000 teu vessels, which remain in short supply. Indeed, Alphaliner notes that just seven panamax ships are available in spot positions, compared with a year ago when some 90 vessels were looking for employment. However, despite declining supply of tonnage, charter rates have flattened at historically low levels. Alphaliner suggested the supply- demand equation was being overshadowed by the spectre of underlying overcapacity fears, as well as the “ever stronger bargaining power of the major carriers”. Meanwhile, continuing strong demand for tonnage has put a brake on scrapping, with the number of ships sold for demolition slowing to just seven in the past 30 days. According to data from London broker Braemar AGM, the total number of containerships demolished this year stands at 148 (419,000 teu). This compares with the 169 ships for 583,000 teu recorded at the same point in 2016. In terms of new tonnage there have been 143 deliveries this year to date, equating to 1.1m teu. This includes last week’s 21,413 teu OOCL Scandinavia – the fifth in a series of six ULCVs ordered by the Hong Kong carrier. There are 34 ships of 20,000 teu and above stemmed for delivery next year, which will need to be deployed on Asia-Europe trades. Alphaliner said it was “unclear” how the extra capacity could be absorbed, particularly if cargo demand should waver. It said that, in this respect, “some pressure” was developing in the larger sectors of the charter market, and noted that the number of idled ships of 7,500 teu and above was on the increase, in contrast to smaller containership sizes.Looking ahead, most of the concerns of brokers The Loadstar has spoken to recently relate to current and upcoming M&A activity in the liner industry. At particular risk are charter options and extensions coming up on Hamburg Süd charters, following its acquisition by Maersk, and similarly Japanese carriers K Line, MOL and NYK ahead of their merger in April. source : the loadstar GOUWE- / SCHELDESTROOM IN TOWAGE WITH BHD ‘RAZENDE BOL’.

ATLANTIC SEA heading into Halifax Harbour, Photo : René Serrao (c) Total EGINA Project to Be Completed Within Initial Budget of $16bn Total Upstream Nigeria Limited (TUPNI) has given a firm assurance that the Egina field project will be completed within the initial budget of $16billion.

The Egina field was discovered by TUPNI in 2003 within the Oil Mining Licence 130 (OML130), some 200 kilometres south of Port Harcourt, Nigeria. The field is being developed by Total Upstream Nigeria Ltd in partnership with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), CNOOC, South Atlantic Petroleum (SAPETRO) and Petrobras. It will at resumption of production, add 200,000 barrels per day to Nigeria’s oil production (approximately 10% of the country’s total oil production). Egina is the largest investment project currently on-going in the oil and gas sector in Nigeria. The overall progress of the project stands at 88% and a key milestone was achieved on October 31st, 2017 as the Floating, Production, Storage and Offloading unit (FPSO) started its journey to Nigeria. According to Total, the project is expected to be completed in Q4 – 2018, within the initial budget of $16billion. Being the first major deepwater development project launched after the enactment of the Nigerian Oil & Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act of 2010, Egina has the highest level of local content of any such project in Nigeria. As operator of the Egina project, Total Upstream Nigeria Ltd fully identifies with the government aspirations for Nigerian Content and has been working closely with the Nigerian Content Development Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and Nigeria National Petroleum Company (NNPC) to maximise Nigerian Content on the project. Key Nigerian Content features of the Egina project include 24 million man- hours worked in Nigeria (77% of total project workload), equivalent to a workforce of 3,000 persons on average over a period of five years; 60,000 tonnes of equipment to be fabricated in Nigeria; over 560,000 man-hours of human capacity development training across Egina contracts; construction of several large-scale new fabrication facilities in Nigeria and upgrade of several

existing fabrication yards. The Egina project includes pioneering Nigerian Content achievements: The FPSO of Egina, a 330- meter long vessel designed to process oil and gas from the Egina field, will be berthed at the quayside in Nigeria for integration of locally fabricated modules – a first for Nigeria. Also, Egina has the highest number of FPSO topside modules (six) to be fully fabricated and integrated in Nigeria. The assembly of the Integrated Control and Safety System of the FPSO was fully performed in Nigeria. Egina includes the fabrication of the largest subsea equipment (manifolds, risers) ever completed in Nigeria, far above what was achieved in previous projects. The Egina project is testimony to the fact that large deepwater projects can be developed with a very high level of in-country activities, thus fulfilling the aspirations and objectives of the Federal Government of Nigeria in terms of employment generation, capacity building and industrial capability development.

With it, Petrobras has recovered 1.476 billion reals (450 million U.S. dollars) since the beginning of Operation Car Wash."The company, which is recognized by the authorities as a victim of the acts unraveled by the Operation, will continue to adopt legal measures against companies and individuals, including former employees and politicians, who have caused financial and image damage to the company," Petrobras said in a statement. Source: Xinhua Maersk seems to be betting big on India's economic reform success MAERSK has high hopes that India's reform efforts to ease supply chain disruptions will now take effect after a slow first half, says the shipping giant's latest market analysis. India had a 10 per cent increase in container trade during the third quarter year on year, a trend that should gain momentum once shipper concerns over refunds from the new Goods and Services Tax (GST) come through. That should increase consumer spending, and recent announcements giving status to logistics and announcing plans to establish a group to promote exports could lift economy, it says, reports IHS Media. "The growth we have seen this quarter reflects the resilience of India's global trade environment," said the Maersk economic report. "Not only is India repeatedly outpacing the global growth average, but it is also one of the strongest global import-export partners among the BRICS [Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa]nations," said Maersk Line India subcontinent managing director Steve Felder. The Maersk report said as India's "Ease-of-doing-business competitiveness steadily improves, with a giant leap of 30 spots to 100 in the World Bank's global rankings, the Maersk Group is positioning itself to support that expected growth, with upgraded end-to-end logistics offerings, especially for reefer cargo, and customer services improvements". To that end, its port operator APM Terminals Inland Services last month opened a new 12-acre inland container depot (ICD) in Pune, about 150

On Tuesday, the Pacific Eden and the Ovation of the Seas were berthed in Hobart’s port — bringing more than 8000 passengers and crew into the city — the biggest cruise ship visit on record. But the monitoring station — installed earlier this year — which provides a live reporting system on the sulphur dioxide emissions from cruise ships in the port did not record just what impact the presence of the two massive vessels had on Hobart air pollution. An Environment Protection Authority spokeswoman said it was because the station had been knocked offline from Sunday to Tuesday after heavy rain. “The data recording failure was because the power to the monitoring station was tripped out on Sunday morning due to water ingress into the electrics,” she said. Today, the Silver Shadow will berth in Hobart’s waters, and be greeted by a protest at 11am at Mawsons Place calling on the State Government to issue the same fuel restrictions for cruise ships in Hobart as in Sydney Harbour. Despite the Senate calling on the Federal Government to set a cap of 0.1 per cent for fuel-oil sulphur content for bunker fuel while cruise ships are berthed in Hobart’s waters following a Hobart City Council decision, Federal Infrastructure and Transport Minister Darren Chester has said it is up to the State Government to take the lead on the issue. Hobart alderman Helen Burnet — who moved the original motion for the cap — said the Silver Shadow had an “F Rating” for emissions, showing that a cap was needed. “It’s easy, what is so difficult about this one,” she said. Environment Minister Elise Archer said the sulphur dioxide levels for Hobart this season were well below both the national daily and hourly standards and, in 2020, a 0.5 per cent cap would be introduced internationally. source: The Mercury NAVY NEWS

Sembcorp Marine confirms $490M Johan Castberg FPSO hull award Following a recent letter of intent, Singapore’s Sembcorp Marine has officially secured the contract to build the hull for Statoil’s Johan Castberg FPSO. Statoil and Sembcorp Marine signed the letter of intent back in November. Statoil has earlier this week filed the plan for the Johan Castberg field development to the Norwegian authorities, after which it awarded several contracts, including the one to Sembcorp Marine. As part of the contract worth $490 million Sembcorp Marine will build the hull and livin quarters for a newbuild floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO). Worth noting, Semcorp Marine has, in turn, hired Norway’s Aker Solutions to design the living quarters for the FPSO. Apart from the LQ design, Aker Solutions earlier this week won contracts from Statoil to supply the subsea production system for Johan Castberg and design the FPSO’s topside. To be deployed at the Johan Castberg field development in the Barents Sea, about 240 kilometers from Hammerfest, Norway, the FPSO will have a hull approximately 55m wide and 295m long. It will be self-contained for harsh-environment operation, with living quarters accommodating up to 140 personnel. The project is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2020, Sembcorp Marine said. source : offshoreenergytoday Former Chief of Daewoo Shipbuilding Gets 6 Years in Jail Former Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) boss Nam Sang-tae sentenced to six years in prison by Korean court for embezzlement and bribery, Yonhap reported. ordered him to forfeit 880 million won (US$806,000). Prosecutors have demanded an eight-year prison term. The court said in the ruling: "The defendant neglected his responsibility as the chief of Daewoo Shipbuilding and sought his personal gains using his authority and power. To that end, Daewoo was stripped of its chance to overcome the industrial slowdown that had hit the whole sector, causing damage to be passed onto the public and the state." Daewoo Shipbuilding is 57 percent owned by the state-run lender Korea Development Bank (KDB). Over 11 trillion won worth of taxpayer money has been injected to salvage the firm from cash shortage between 2015 and last year. Nam was indicted in January on charges of incurring some 12.5 billion won in losses for the shipyard that he headed from 2006-2012 by purchasing a major stake in a heavy industry firm at a value three times higher than market price. He also stands accused of causing financial damage to Daewoo by clinching deals with people who had ties with his acquaintances without thorough evaluations. He is also accused of lobbying a former KDB head seeking to extend his term as Daewoo's chief. source : Marinelink TUG VB HISPANIA DEPARTED FROM ALGECIRAS WITH CERNAVAL DRYDOCK no 3 Groupo Boluda’s AHT VB HISPANIA departed with Cernaval’s Floating Dock No 3 from Algeciras rumours are going that the dock is sold to a firm in Abidjan – Ivory Coast Photo’s : Francis Ferro ©

The Yamal project, which required investments of $27 billion, will allow Russia to fulfil a plan to double its share of the global LNG market by 2020 from around 4 percent now. The LNG was loaded onto the ice class tanker "Christophe de Margerie", named after the former head of France's energy major Total, who died in a plane crash in Moscow in 2014. Total holds a 20 percent stake in Yamal LNG. "The loadings will be carried out all year round... I am confident the second and the third parts of the project will be commissioned ahead of schedule," Putin said at a ceremony in the remote greenfield site in the heart of the Arctic tundr "Russia can and should get a decent stake in the market," he told the attendees, who included Saudi Arabia's Energy Minister Khalid al-Falih. Putin has in the past expressed his personal support for Yamal LNG, in which Novatek holds a 50.1 percent stake. Novatek is owned by Leonid Mikhelson, Russia's richest businessman with wealth estimated by Forbes at $18.4 billion. Investments in the Yamal project were put at risk after Novatek came under Western sanctions over Moscow's role in the Ukraine crisis, but it managed to secure funding from Chinese and Russian banks, as well as from the Russian government. Yamal LNG's loan deals with Chinese banks total more than $12 billion. It also secured Russian state funds worth 150 billion roubles ($2.5 billion) from a rainy day fund and 3.6 billion euros ($4.24 billion) from state-controlled Russian lenders Sberbank and Gazprombank. More than 95 percent of future production from Yamal has already been pre-sold for the next 20 years or so, mostly to the Asia-Pacific region. Yamal LNG is designed to be made up of four trains - three with an annual capacity of 5.5 million tonnes each and one train with a capacity of one million tonnes. The second train is expected to be launched in the third quarter of 2018, the third train in the first quarter of 2019 and the fourth by the end of 2019. Currently, Russia has only one operational LNG producing plant, on the Pacific island of Sakhalin, controlled by gas giant Gazprom. Shell is also a shareholder in the project, known as Sakhalin-2, which produces almost 11 million tonnes of the frozen gas per year. While Gazprom holds monopoly rights to export natural gas via pipeline, Novatek has secured the right to ship LNG abroad, becoming the second Russian gas exporter.LNG is frozen from offshore gas deposits into liquid at minus 160 degrees Celsius (minus 256 Fahrenheit) for shipment by tanker, with Qatar, Australia, the United States and Papua New Guinea among other producers.Qatar is by far the largest exporter, selling 77.2 million tonnes of liquefied gas and accounting for just under 30 percent of global market share in 2016, energy research group IHS and the International Gas Union said. Russia ranked seventh. Novatek, which aims to topple Qatar as top LNG exporter, also plans another project, Arctic LNG, on the neighbouring Gydan peninsula. This Prize recognizes the extraordinary work that this association carries out on a daily basis for the happiness and the emotional reconstruction of siblings. On this occasion, Naïla Saadé, President of the CMA CGM Foundation, said: “We were particularly touched and amazed by the pedagogical accompaniment work carried out by this association, which gives back to children who are greatly weakened by life, a real children’s life. Growing up in a stable and warm emotional climate within an educational setting is essential for their reconstruction, development and fulfillment.” SOS Children’s Villages France welcomes brothers and sisters, as part of a placement by court order, to allow them to live in a family structure around a mother, called “SOS mother”, who supports them on the educational and emotional plans. A complete and dedicated team (director, educator, psychologist…) stands alongside these SOS mothers to help the children rebuild themselves, maintain links with their parents and prepare their future. The CMA CGM Corporate Foundation for Children Created in 2005 and chaired by Ms Naïla SAADE, the CMA CGM Corporate Foundation is committed to help the most vulnerable children. In 12 years, it has helped about 200 projects in France and Lebanon which strive to improve the daily life of ill children, children from disadvantaged backgrounds or with disabilities. Sensitive to humanitarian and societal issues, the CMA CGM Corporate Foundation has also been engaged since 2012 in a broad humanitarian operation called “Containers of Hope”. This operation allows some international NGOs to ship for free their humanitarian equipment on the boats and lines of CMA CGM all over the world. Inaugurated in 1972, the SOS Children’s Village of Marseille, located in the Roy Park in the 8th arrondissement, has the largest accommodation capacity with about sixty children. Gilles Paillard, General Manager of SOS Children’s Villages France, declared: “We are sincerely touched by the trust of the Foundation and proud of this distinction, which underlines the quality and importance of our actions. The world is prettier when it is united! Nothing could be done without the generosity of our partner friends.” In 2017, the CMA CGM Corporate Foundation awarded, as part of its call for projects, 13 French and Lebanese associations working to improve the living conditions, well-being and development of sick children or victims of trauma. Since 2012, the Foundation has also been running the “Containers of Hope” operation, which enables French non-governmental organizations to deliver humanitarian material free of charge thanks to the CMA CGM Group’s maritime services. Yang Ming Line has completed its second private placement, good for a $87.5 million capital infusion, as it makes another step toward more stability. The capital injection from 257.7 million new common stock shares, at NTD$10.18 per share (about $0.34) is the third stage in the company’s recapitalization effort, which so far has raised $340.5 million. The completion of the private placements, and public offering, means that government-related investors will have a holding ratio of 45.07 percent, Yang Ming said in a release Friday. The company in February raised $56 million in an earlier private placement. In November, Yang Ming announced it had raised $200 million after floating shares on the Taiwanese stock exchange. Yang Ming has $751 million in short-term loans due over the next 12 months, industry analyst Alphaliner reported in April. The carrier’s future was the subject of industry speculation after its losses doubled in 2016 to $493.6 million, and trading in the company’s stock was suspended briefly less than a month later. Yang Ming said the suspension was a routine part of its recapitalization process. The Taiwanese carrier announced the recapitalization plan in late 2016, after a difficult year in which it lost $491 million, almost double the company’s 2015 loss. The plan involved a reverse split of Yang Ming's then outstanding shares as well as a coordination of multiple rounds of private placements. In January, the company said it could draw on a $1.9 billion fund created by the Taiwanese government to help its ailing shipping industry. Taiwan’s National Development Fund of Taiwan took a 6.39 percent stake in Yang Ming, Yang Ming said in November that it had earned a $42 million profit on higher freight rates and an 11 percent bump in volume in the third quarter, after losses in the previous 10 quarters. The carrier is a member of THE Alliance along with Hapag-Lloyd, MOL, NYK Line, and “K” Line. THE Alliance, seeking to shore up shipper trust following the Hanjin Shipping bankruptcy, is unique among international vessel-sharing agreements in that its members have set up an emergency fund to ensure that ships are worked and cargo is delivered, should a member slip into insolvency. Source : the Journal of Commerce NEW BOOK FROM THE WORLD SHIP SOCIETY Founded in 1947, the World Ship Society has some 2,000 members worldwide who are interested in ships, past and present. Its monthly journal “Marine News” and its naval companion ”Warships” are bywords for accurate information. A MARITIME REVIEW OF 2016 by Krispen Atkinson, David Walker & Andrew McAlpine , A4 softback, 76 pages, 144 colour & 2 B & W photos This book provides a snapshot of the events that occurred in the shipping industry during 2016 including ownership collapses, notable deliveries, demolitions and losses. One of the biggest stories of that year was the collapse of South Korean shipping giant Hanjin, which led to hundreds of ships lying idle whilst finance was sorted to allow the ships to dock and discharge their cargoes. In Europe a number of short-sea operators disappeared. With the slump in the oil industry, offshore exploration was at a low while the fleet was larger than ever. Hundreds of offshore support vessels were placed in lay-up worldwide and others were scrapped. A number of rigs also made their way to the demolition yards, while those under construction have been delayed deliberately. The year saw the oldest active aircraft carrier retired by the Indian Navy, while the USN inducted a new class of destroyer and expended some retired frigates as targets. The story of this turbulent year is told by a selection of high quality photographs supported by informative deep captions.
