05/28/2020 Dear applicants, future students, family and Tri-County friends,

While the 2020 school year is coming to a close, and warm weather has arrived, we would be remiss not to remind everyone how much we are looking forward to seeing you all in the fall!

Some of you may already know what program, clubs and sports you’d like to see yourself in, others may not have decided yet. Both are okay! We’d encourage you to check out your options either way!

On our website, we have full descriptions of each of our programs (majors) including the many job opportunities you are able to prepare and train for. Thinking about becoming a computer programmer or web designer? Maybe an architecture technician or a civil engineer? Or how about pre-med or nursing? Want to open your own automotive shop?

We have a program for all of those, where you can get a head start on certifications and on-the- job training. In fact, just take a look at all of the and universities our students are accepted into!

We are proud to say that 100% of our seniors went on to college, the workforce, or military after graduation last year. This year’s class of 2020 is on the same path.

On another note, the English Department would like to invite rising ninth grade students to participate in our freshmen summer reading of David Lubar’s Sleeping Freshmen Never Lie. This title is available through your local library in both print and electronic media, as well as through your local booksellers. Additionally, there is an audio edition of the novel.

Due to our recent national circumstances, the English Department has decided to make this summer reading optional, but we do strongly encourage freshmen to complete the reading and choose one of the related projects to keep them engaged in reading throughout the summer, as well as to continue practicing analytical skills in preparation for their first year of high school. This information will also be posted on the Tri-County website by the end of June.

Traditionally, we would have held a Parent Orientation and Placement Test in April, for health reasons, we were unable to do so. We still need to obtain some more data that will help us place students correctly into academic courses for next year. We already have a lot of information that will help with this process, but the placement test results will also be used as a guide for teachers at the start of the year. This test has nothing to do with admissions and has no effect on admissions decisions. This is a baseline assessment and therefore will give us a good idea on where students strengths and weakness are.

We will be sending an email to you with the placement test directions on Thursday, June 4. The testing window is the weekend of June 6 and June 7. We apologize for such short notice. The test is a maximum of 90 minutes for EACH math and English exam, but many students will finish much earlier than that time limit. If each test is not completed in 90 minutes do not worry, we will have enough information to proceed. While each test is 90 minutes long, students can take them separate of each other. Perhaps math on Saturday and English on Sunday. Please make sure your child reads the directions thoroughly, and feel free to read them with your child. It is extremely important that your child complete this test on their own, but feel free to assist with directions but that should be all. If you do not have a computer/ChromeBook to take the exam, please contact me as soon as possible. If you do not receive the email on June 4 or if you have any problems with the exam, please email me as soon as possible.

We share a lot of information on our website www.tri-county.us, our Instagram account (@tricountyregional) and on our Faceboook page. Think about your future and explore your options. We can’t wait to work with you to reach for success. You will be receiving communications about Tri-County in your email periodically. We wish you the best in these uncertain times.

Work Hard, Today Counts.

Sincerely,

Scott O’Brien
