This hiking Route du Bonheur offers you an exclusive combination of extraordinary overnights in various Relais & Châteaux Hotels with as well extraodinary hiking experiences on carefully signposted routes in the Swiss Alps. Enjoy sparkling mountain lakes, magnificent views on snow-covered glaciers and visit charming mountain villages. A combination of adventure and a taste of luxury: welcome to the Route du Bonheur of Relais & Châteaux.

Day-by-day

Day 1: Arrival to Crans-Montana Overnight in Crans-Montana, at the Relais & Châteaux Hostellerie du Pas de l'Ours

Day 2: Crans-Montana - Leukerbad Hike from Crans-Montana to Leukerbad on the well signposted Route "Walliser Sonnenweg". The stage from Crans-Montana to Leukerbad is rather long and demanding, but in return, Leukerbad welcomes weary hikers with warm thermal pools, Jacuzzis and other treats for body and soul. Cutting down of hiking times by partly using public transports is possible. Overnight in Leukerbad, at the Relais & Châteaux Hôtel Les Sources des Alpes Details: 24 km, ↑ 1'143 m ↓ 1'225 m, length: approx. 8.5 h

Day 3: Cablecar Leukerbad – Gemmipass | Gemmipass – Kandersteg You may spare the 2 hours ascension from Leukerbad to Gemmipass and use the cable car. From Gemmipass a signposted hiking trail leads along Daubensee and Arveseeli (2 little lakes) to Sunnbüel. We recommend to use the local cable car down to Kandeersteg. Overnight in Kandersteg, at the Relais et Châteaux Waldhotel Doldenhorn Details: 10 – 15 km, ↑ 190 m ↓ 500 – 1225 m, length: approx. 3 - 4 h

Day 4: Public bus Kandersteg – Adelboden| Adelboden – Lenk Transfer by public bus from Kandersteg to Adelboden. Gentle climb alongside the Glisbach stream, through forest and moorland, over the Hahnenmoospass, then down to Lenk, superbly set in the Hinter Simmental basin, with spectacular waterfalls and the perfect backdrop of the Wildstrubel massif. Overnight in Lenk,at the Relais & Château Lenkerhof gourmet spa resort Details: 13.5 km, ↑ 700 m ↓ 980 m, length: approx. 4.5 h

Day 5: Public bus Lenk - Iffigenalp | Iffigenalp – Crans-Montana Transfer by public bus from Lenk to Iffigenalp. The hiking from Lac de Tseuzier dam to Crans-Montana will take place on Switzerland Mobility Route "Bisses du Ro". You can take a public bus in July and August to shorten the walk from the dam of Lac de Tseuzier down to Crans-Montana. Overnight in Crans-Montana, at the Relais & Châteaux Hostellerie du Pas de l'Ours Details: 12 - 22 km, ↑ 915 - 1'330 m ↓ 700 - 1'425 m, length: approx. 4.5 - 8 h

Route character

This alpine hike uses exclusively signposted hiking trails. The daily stretches are rather long, but can partly shortened down by using local means of transportation like public busses and cable cars. A good physical health with experience in dayhikes of 5 – 8 hours are required. For the hiking leg from Lenk to Crans- Montana surefootedness and experience is required. You must not suffer from vertigo to be able to do this part of the tour.
