The York Herald 29 Jul 1871 In Chancery Sootheran v. Massam – Stranton and Seaton Carew To be sold by auction, pursuant to an order of the Court with the approbation of his Honour the Vice-Chancellor, Sir John Wickens, by Mr Thomas Walker, at the Royal Hotel, at West Hartlepool, in the County of Durham, on Friday, the 25th day of August, 1871, at two o’clock in the afternoon in one lot – All that Freehold Estate, situate in the above Townships, near West Hartlepool, in the County of Durham, known as “Long Hill Farm,” containing about 126 acres, and 6 Cattle Gates on Seaton Snook Pasture, in the occupation of Mr Walters Bainbridge, as yearly tenant; together with the piece of Ground containing about 10 Perches contiguous, upon part of which the Seaton Carew Lighthouse and a Cottage now stand, held by the Tees Navigation Company under a Lease for the term of 99 years, from the 18th May, 1888, at the annual rent of £20. Parts of the Estate are subject to a yearly Rent Charge of £2 17s 7d., an annual Fee Farm Rent of £2 13s 4d., a yearly Modus or Outpayment of about 16s., and the Tithe Rent Charge apportioned thereon. The Estate will be sold subject to, and charged with, the following annuities, namely: An annuity of £30, payable during the life of a female now aged 54; an annuity of £40, payable during the life of a female now aged 56; and an annuity of £10, payable during the life of a male now aged 82.
