Durham County Council and Network Rail vehicles may from time to time need to use the path to maintain the railway or the path. Walking and cycling are cheap, healthy and often quicker ways to travel. As well as being fun, travelling by foot or bike will help you keep fit and feel better.     Durham County Council Election Results 1973-2005 Colin Rallings and Michael Thrasher The Elections Centre Plymouth University The information contained in this report has been obtained from a number of sources. Election results from the immediate post-reorganisation period were painstakingly collected by Alan Willis largely, although not exclusively, from local newspaper reports. From the mid- 1980s onwards the results have been obtained from each local authority by the Elections Centre. The data are stored in a database designed by Lawrence Ware and maintained by Brian Cheal and others at Plymouth University. Despite our best efforts some information remains elusive whilst we accept that some errors are likely to remain. Notice of any mistakes should be sent to [email protected]. The results sequence can be kept up to date by purchasing copies of the annual Local Elections Handbook, details of which can be obtained by contacting the email address above. Front cover: the graph shows the distribution of percentage vote shares over the period covered by the results. The lines reflect the colours traditionally used by the three main parties. The grey line is the share obtained by Independent candidates while the purple line groups together the vote shares for all other parties. Rear cover: the top graph shows the percentage share of council seats for the main parties as well as those won by Independents and other parties. Introduction This report is one of a series covering the length of the 1825 Stockton & Darlington Railway. It results from a programme of fieldwork and desk based research carried out between October 2015 and March 2016 by Archaeo-Environment and local community groups, in particular the Friends of the 1825 S&DR. This appendix covers the second 5.1km (3.17 miles) stretch between the Gaunless Accommodation Bridge at West Auckland and Shildon (figure 1). It outlines what survives and what has been lost starting at the north and heading south east to Shildon. It outlines the gaps in our knowledge requiring further research and the major management issues needing action. We haven’t had a ‘dispersed’ church since the days when Jesus himself walked this earth. Soon after his life on earth church buildings to gather for worship and pastoral support were built by the disciples copying the pattern of the Jewish syna- gogues of the day. Today as a dispersed church we are figuring out how to be church. If this restriction to isolate goes on, what will become of church buildings when they can’t afford their statutory upkeep including insurance, parish share and all? How will this virus refocus our society? Will the threat of this virus weaken or strengthen the Christian church? Will we become more or less community minded? As we see the empty shelves in our shops from panic buying we are certainly chal- lenged to pray more earnestly, “Give us today our daily bread”. This phrase re- minds us to ask for what we need and no more.
