at Dalton Piercy, Elwick and Hart Produced for the Villagers by Hart and Elwick Churches Revd. Janet Burbury, The Vicarage, Hart, Hartlepool. (By the way, across Durham there are some pilgrim routes being created heading to the Cathedral. One will go from St Hilda’s through Hart, Trimdon and onwards. How exciting!) Can the people of God make the Spirit direct us or do we need to wait until God knows we are willing to be moved into action? When more than one person in a group notices the Spirit prompting them, then bigger ways of blessing our communities can begin. Then, that church gets noticed. If you don’t trust the Spirit then you will have to trust your own mind to discern the vast- ness of God’s will. God doesn’t think in limited human ways but paints a bigger picture than we can ever imagine…His picture would never have a frame!…. Jesus didn’t go through the Cross for anything less than setting us free…free to roam, to expect big things for our communities, free to try mission initiatives even if they seem scary in their expec- tations … free to be led by the Spirit of God! So how do we discern the Spirit we cannot see….to see the Spirit that indicates authentic discipleship…… Some will realise their trust in a faithful God has grown in strength, some will become more generous with their time to help others, some will be led more deeply into regular prayer …some will find they notice God in the details – in things some call coincidenc- es…some find they have a sudden release of tears recognising they are loved by God, some will lay down of a lifelong shame and discover the liberation of forgiveness, some will find they’re moved by the presence of God in prayerfully held silence, some will dis- cover a brave voice to speak out, some find the Spirit in a brooding that lasts for years which leads on to a creative streak in a new venture……However the Spirit moves, you will notice a change in action that springs from the invisible Holy Spirit of love which makes you feel more alive than you ever did before, and it leads you to the truth of God’s will in the place where you live. …… Where is your radar tuned – to our God fixed in heaven or God set free in the world through the Spirit which can set you free too? We have designed a new reading area for outside and researched using the inter- net what we could put into it. Some of our children have taken part in school council meetings town wide and we have ourselves hosted this. We have also designed posters for our upcoming competition within school linked with Virgin trains and designing the train stations of the future. These will be displayed around school this week. We have had visits from many people over the last term and we have enjoyed working alongside our Junior Leadership team to welcome them to our school and make sure they see how amazing and welcoming our school is. John has been a Councillor for 4 years, and ably chaired the Vil- lage Maintenance Group, ensuring that the village was kept spick and span. He stepped down to ensure that Wynyard would have representation and, although he has promised to keep maintaining the summer floral display at the well on the green, he will be sorely missed. Jackie’s tenure has been brief, but she too wanted Wynyard to have a presence and hopes to return at some time in the future. Our other Councillors are standing again, but it will be a tough election as 7 other people are standing, most of whom live in Wynyard, though not necessarily in Hartlepool Borough. The Litter Pick took place on Saturday 7th April, when 4 Councillors and the Clerk turned out to pick up the rubbish, probably discarded from vehicles entering the village from the A19. Plastic cutlery, empty alcohol containers - both tins and glass, sweet wrappers, emp- ty crisp packets, even broken Christmas decorations! All in all, 15 large black bags were filled with rubbish from the verges along the two roads into the village from the A19, with the help of one valiant resident who took pity on us when it started to rain. Councillors have now decided that a regular litter pick should be held on the first Sat- urday of every month, between 10.00am and noon, starting in June. However, Council- lors cannot do this on their own, we need help. If you could spare an hour or two to help keep Elwick looking good, meet outside the shop at 10.00am. Equipment will be provided but bring waterproof gloves if you have them! Litter is bad enough, but Councillors also discovered that one dog walker is regularly al- lowing their dog to use the verge, on the south side of the A19/ North Lane junction, as a toilet and NOT cleaning up after it – even though there is a dog waste bin available.
