^sporting Spurts and Sprints'

SPORTS REPORT While Cato has not won any premierships this year, we have competed in good spirit. Those who have par ticipated in the teams have learnt to co-operate and work together and it is not the result that counts so much as the spirit in which the game is played. The year began with the Inter-School swimming and our Juniors performed at a high standard. Tanya Bridgeman, Karina Robinson, Jodie Powers, Martine Spurrier and Annette King are individuals who con tributed well to our success and saw Cato finish 3rd in the Junior section — a great effort. The swimming was followed by the athletics and, although Cato was not victorious, all members did their best and must be congratulated. The competition was of a very high standard and individual competitors who contributed to the day's events included Jenny Jackson, Kirsten Oakley, Jenny McKee and Shoshana Rose, the Senior Athletics Champion. The competitors par ticipated in the new Athletics Uniform — black shorts and green T-Shirt. The individual events over, second term began with Netball and . The Senior Netball and Hockey teams, although having only a few wins, participated in each match with enthusiasm and determination. The is underway and once again the Seniors have a strong team. They have won their first match and are looking forward to a successful . Last year Cato finished in first place and we hope to achieve another victory. The U/15 school teams have had a rewarding year with successes in Netball, Hockey and Softball. The Tennis team unfortunately faced some experienced players which made it difficult to produce the vital winning scores. The Hockey team had a good win against Shelford and draws with both Mentone and St. Michael's. The worked well together as a team and showed great improvement throughout the season. The Netball team defeated Mentone and St. Michael's, had a close match with Loreto and lost to Firbank and Shelford. Softball has started and the team had a great start to the season with a convincing win against Loreto. They are looking forward to further successes as the season progresses. The U.'13 teams have competed with great en thusiasm and determination. The Netball team finished in 4th place with two wins and three losses. The Tennis is underway. That is how 1982's year of sporting activities stand. I would like to convey my congratulations to all competitors and award winners.
