CAIRO ENGLISH SCHOOL EXCELLENCE IN SPORTS

INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this coaching manual is to provide a statement highlighting our philoso- phy and intent in developing the most sophisticated school sports programme in Egypt. This manual will provide details of our code of conduct, our work ethics and coaches/ students responsibilities in a joint venture for producing the very best sports provisions.

The Excellence in Sports program has been designed to encourage students to reach out and fulfill their dreams and aspirations leading them on a long term pathway of progressive talent development in sport.

Our aim is to identify gifted and talented pupils in all of the six major sports through our PE Department, ASA Program and Trial weeks. Every pupil from Year 1 to Year 11 will be given the opportunity to showcase their skills in each area of these six major sports high- lighting potential talent that our highly professional staff will identify and cultivate into “excellence in sports” leading to a pathway for Long Term Development.

Each member of our sports department has the responsibility to teach students in all aspects of sportsmanship, motivation, self-discipline, loyalty, leadership, team cohesion and a mental attitude to winning, always striving to be “better than before”.

“Excellence in sport can only be achieved through hard work and dedication to improve on ones own weakness spiraling those weaknesses into strengths thus excelling performance to greater heights”.

MR. Jeff Leathley Director of Sports & BTB

CAIRO ENGLISH SCHOOL SPORTS DEPARTMENT MISSION STATEMENT

THE CAIRO ENGLISH SCHOOL COACHING STAFF

A vital part of the CES educational sports program is to develop desirable attitudes and habits towards sports in particular and life in general as well as promoting good citizenship and sportsmanship.

Coaching Staff should aim to promote unity and cooperative team cohesion with all our coaches and administration staff working together to better prepare young students for post school competitions in society. The purpose is not simply to develop school, college or even professional players , nor to devel- op sports athletes for Olympic competitions as these are a natural by-product of our “excellence is sports” program, but to develop each participant in progressing their talents to be “Better Than Before”

Coaching Leadership should be of quality and should provide sports athletes with examples of exempla- ry behaviour. Measurement of leadership success should not be measured in terms of the tangible evi- dence of a victory or defeat but by the evidence of being “better than before” showing tangible im- provement in individual performance, character, courage, integrity and willing attitude to learn. The “excellence in sports” program should always be consistent with the general aims and objectives of the schools philosophy. The sports administration should be oriented to the general policies and proce- dures of the CES institution. At no time should the “excellence in sports” program place the total educa- tional curriculum secondary. The sports program leadership should constantly strive to develop a well- rounded individual student capable of taking their place in a modern internationalism society.

Coaching staff should encourage and promote the educational benefits of academic learning through sports. Sport athletes competition involvement should not replace the academic curriculum in anyway. Competition involvement of individual athletes will be required to fulfil their learning obligation to all academic subjects making additional alternative arrangement to do so. The following pages will show the framework for CES coaching staff.
