The Management and Promotion of Tithorea's Trail at the Parnassos
The management and promotion of Tithorea’s trail at the Parnassos National Park for the sustainable touristic development of the region Αr. Mertzanis1*, T. Lanara2, N. Tsaprounis2, G. Varvarigos2, As. Mertzani4 and T. Typical example of this is the northeastern side of Parnassos National Park, which is traversed by the Tithorea’s trail, at the “Aesthetic forest of Tithorea, near the village of Tithorea. The purpose of the present research is to highlight the specific characteristics of Tithorea’s trail concerning biodiversity, landscape, geomorphology, history and culture, as well as to offer proposals about its management in the protected area of Parnassos National Park. The management and promotion of Tithorea’s trail could become a model for alternative forms of tourism in mountainous areas and it will help to integrate the protected area in the wider ecological, economic and social environment for the sustainable development of the region. -

Roman Walks in the Provinces: a Comparison Between Delphi and Warwickshire a Lord Rootes Memorial Fund Project
Roman Walks in the Provinces: A comparison between Delphi and Warwickshire A Lord Rootes Memorial Fund project REPORT Thomas Matthews Boehmer 1 Abstract This report documents the results of a twelve-day project carried out in early September 2014, followed by an exhibition and talk in November 2014. ‘Roman Walks in the Provinces: A comparison of Delphi and Warwickshire’ was an attempt to compare the classical evidence, as represented by Pausanias’ 2nd century travelogue, and the physical experience of moving through landscapes in the present-day. The project was split between five days in Greece, and four in Britain, and culminated with the exhibition two months later. The evidences were supplemented by local archaeological data gathered along the journey, and by interacting with local people met on the walks. Through the walks I learned a great deal about the ways in which landscapes are thought about, and routes conceived (both by ancients and moderns), and the different ways heritage and legacy are dealt with in the two countries. Acknowledgements I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Lord Rootes Memorial Fund for their generous financial assistance in allowing me to carry out and complete this project. Thanks should also be given to family and friends who supported me in this venture, most especially to Joe Gough and David Klemperer who, self-funded, accompanied me on my Greek leg of these walks and gave continued support along with many valuable insights. 2 Table of Contents Title page and related: pgs. 1-5 Abstract……………………………………………………………………………..…………... pg.2 Acknowledgements………………………………………………………………………..……. pg.2 Table of contents……………………………………………………….…………………..…….pg.3 List of illustrations………………………………………………………………….……………pg.4 Structure of report……………………………………………………………………..……….. -

Neotectonic Basin Evolution in Central-Eastern Mainland Greece: an Overview

I 1 National and Kapodistrian University ofAthens, Faculty ofGeology and Geoenvironment, Department ofDynamic, Tectonic & Applied Geology, [email protected] Abstract The neotectonic evolution of central-eastern mainland Greece (Stereo Hellas) is documented in the result of local extensional tectonics within a regional transten sional field, which is related to the westward propagation of the North Anatolian Fault. The observed tectonic structures within the neotectonic basins and their mar gins (range-bounding faults and fault zones, rotation of tectonic blocks) suggest a close relation to the Parnassos Detachment Fault (PDF), which is a reused alpine thrust surface. LokYis basin (LB) occupied a central position in this neotectonic con figuration, hoping received its first sediments in the Uppermost Miocene and subse quently been greatly affected by tectonic episodes, which continue until nowadays. LB is considered to have been separated from the present-day North Gulf of Evia not earlier than the Lower Pleistocene. Voiotikos Kifissos Basin, on the other hand, is tightly related to the activation ofPDF, occupying the position ofa frontal basin and having developed along the main detachmentfront. Key words: Lokris, detachment faulting, block rotation, North Anatolian Fault. n£piA'l4J'l JJa.povma.(tml ~ VWrE:KTOV1KI7 tC:i:).I(/1 Tllr; r(C;VTpoa.Va.ro),IKI7r; LTC;pC;a.r; EJ)j;.l5o.c;, 'I 0 71:oia.
