Route Via Thonon ( Scroll Down for Motorway Route) Directions to the Chalet Val d’Abondance Route via Thonon ( scroll down for motorway route) • Leaving Geneva airport, take signs marked GENEVE and CENTRE VILLE. • Follow signs to EVIAN and THONON, which will take you into the centre of Geneva, by the lake (with the lake to your left), and then left along the lakeshore down a wide, tree-lined road (the N5). There are speed cameras along this road Once you are on the road to Thonon and Evian, it is a long, straight stretch. Entry into France • You will cross the border into France just outside Geneva. You’re your passports ready, although it's unlikely you will be stopped. • Keep straight on through Douvaine and Sciez. • After Sciez you will come to a stretch of dual carriageway. Carry on to the end of the dual carriageway, past the Buffalo Grill restaurant. Almost immediately afterwards, you will come to a roundabout. • At the roundabout, take the first exit (right) signposted MONTREUX and EVIAN. This takes you onto the new Thonon by-pass. Caution: there are speed cameras along this road - the speed limit is 90kpm. • After six kilometers, take the exit marked MORZINE-AVORIAZ, CHATEL and VALEE d'ABONDANCE. At the end of the short slip road is a roundabout. • At the roundabout, take the first exit (right) marked as above. After a short while, this will take you along the bottom of a gorge, with a river on your right (for those familiar with the area, you are now on the old road out of Thonon). • Carry straight along this road until you pass through two small tunnels. Immediately after the second tunnel is a roundabout. • At the roundabout, take the second exit (left) signposted ABONDANCE and CHATEL (D22). • After a short while you start to climb steeply up a twisting road. Eventually you come out into the high alpine valley known as the Val d'Abondance. • Carry straight on, passing through the small town of Abondance and the village of Richebourg. • Keep straight on, passing through La Chapelle d'Abondance. • Carry on until you come to a roundabout with two exits off it. Take the second exit signposted CHATEL. • About 50 metres on your right is a building with a brown metal roof. Turn right onto the track immediately after the building. [If you pass a sign saying Hotel Carlina on your left, you’ve just missed the turn.] • There are a number of chalets on your right. Immediately after the fifth chalet (where there is usually a large green wheelie-bin stationed), turn right into the car park of the Chalet Val d'Abondance. The chalet is right in front of you. If the car park is full, there is additional parking to the rear of the chalet. • If you have trouble getting into the chalet, call the chalet manager on +33 4 50 81 37 48 (landline) or +33 687 21 28 36 (mobile). The Motorway route N. B. To use this route you must have a valid Swiss Motorway "Vignette" sticker displayed on your vehicle. Most Swiss registered hire cars have them but not all. Check with your car hire company before you set off. • From the airport follow signs for the Motorway towards LAUSANNE [Note Motorways signposts in Switzerland are GREEN not BLUE] • This will take you onto the main motorway [N1,E25,E26] which clings to the hillside along the North Shore of Lake Geneva. • As you reach LAUSANNE the motorway turns inland away from the lake and splits. You should follow the E62 Motorway signs towards MONTREUX. • Continue past MONTREUX on the E62 following signs towards AIGLE,BEX,MARTIGNY,SION,BRIG. The motorway drops down onto the broad valley of the river Rhone, overlooked by the mountains of the Portes du Soleil. • Leave the motorway at the Junction signposted ST TRIPHON, MONTHEY NORD and PAS DE MORGINS. The exit slip road leads you up to a junction where you want to TURN RIGHT towards MONTHEY EST and PAS DE MORGINS. • You will come to a roundabout. Take the third exit (bearing left) following signs to PAS DE MORGINS. • At the next roundabout take the second exit (straight on) following signs to PAS DE MORGINS. • At a third roundabout take the second exit (straight on) following signs to PAS DE MORGINS. This road will take you through a tunnel. • From here the road climbs sharply in a series of severe bends. Continue to follow signs for MORGINS. • At Troistorrents, keep to the main road, which turns sharply to the right, still signposted MORGINS. (If you reach Val d'Illiez, you've gone the wrong way!) • Follow the main road straight through MORGINS. • At the end of Morgins is the Swiss customs post. Have your passports ready. Occasionally they stop vehicles. Entry into France • Continue over the Morgins Pass into France and the upper part of CHATEL. • Follow the road straight ahead through the center of Chatel towards La Chappelle d'Abondance. • As you drop down the hill about a mile out of Chatel you will see our Chalet - Chalet Val d'Abondance - on your left. • Our access road is on your LEFT just after the sign for Hotel Carlina and a sign saying Ville de Nant. Caution: this is a sharp turn, and the road drops down sharply from the main road, so keep wide to avoid the risk of grounding. [If in any doubt, carry on to the roundabout 50 metres further on, go round the roundabout and approach the turn from the other direction] • There are a number of chalets on your right. Partie septentrionale du massif alpin français, le Chablais a pour limite au nord le lac Léman, à l’est le canton du Valais, au sud le Faucigny et à l'ouest le Genevois (canton de Genève et genevois français).Deux grandes zones géographiques sont identifiées : - le haut Chablais montagneux, pastoral et forestier, et isolé en massifs séparés par des vallées relativement profondes : vallée d'Abondance, d'Aulps du Brevon. - le bas Chablais formé de plaines, de coteaux, piémonts et de bas plateaux tournés vers le Léman et la Suisse qui s’étagent entre 350 et900 m d’altitude. La commune appartient au territoire du bas-Chablais est entourée par les communes de Nernier et Yvoire au Nord-est,Excenevex et Sciez à l’Est, Massongy au Sud et Chens sur Léman au Sud-ouest. Messery est située en rive sud du Lac Léman et développe une façade 3,25 km sur le Léman et s’étend depuis la rive du Lac jusqu’à l’intérieur de la plaine du Bas-Chablais. To get to La Vieille Ferme de la Moussiere • You will see a big information board on the right of the road showing what’s on in the village during the coming week. • Shortly after this, take the right turning (D293) signposted "St Jean d’Aulps Station" • Follow this road until it bends round to the left and you reach a small square with a church at the end. • This is “Place de la Moussiere”, and our chalet "La Vieille Ferme de la Moussiere" is the last building on the square - closest the church. There is a big Alpine Adventure banner on the balcony. • You can park anywhere on the square. To get to Chalet Lucioles • Stay on the D902.

Les stations de la vallée d'Abondance et de Morgins vous proposent plus de 80 kilomètres de sentiers aménagés et balisés afin de découvrir la nature hivernale dans toute sa beauté et sa diversité. Ces différents itinéraires, dont certains à cheval entre la France et la Suisse, ont été tracés pour répondre aux attentes du plus grand nombre : de la promenade d'une heure à la randonnée sportive de 4 ou 5 heures. Cette pratique de la raquette à neige est un loisir idéal pour par- tager de bons moments en famille ou entre amis, avec tous les plaisirs qu'elle recèle. Ces magnifiques sentiers en forêts ou en zones découvertes sont donc accessibles à tous à condition d'être bien équipés : vêtements adaptés, protection contre le froid et le soleil, etc. Ne vous surestimez pas, calculez bien le temps nécessaire à votre sortie : la nuit tombe très vite l'hi- ver ! Prenez de quoi boire (chaud si possible) et de quoi vous alimenter. Pensez également à vous munir de vos papiers d'identité si vous êtes amenés à passer la frontière. Respectez ces règles de sécurité et découvrez la montagne en toute tranquil- lité sans prendre le risque de la pratiquer en dehors des itinéraires balisés.
