Resumen ejecutivo RESUMEN EJECUTIVO La campaña de monitoreo del componente Flora y Vegetación se enmarca dentro de lo establecido en las Resoluciones de Calificación Ambiental (RCA) Nº 38/04 y N° 71/97 de Minera Los Pelambres. Dicho monitoreo se realizó durante noviembre–diciembre 2015 (primavera), y enero-marzo 2016 (verano). La metodología particular usada para cada tipo de formación ya sea herbácea o arbóreo–arbustiva fue la indicada en la RCA Nº 71/97, basada en análisis lineales para la estrata herbácea–arbustiva y parcelas permanentes para el estrato arbóreo y de arbustos mayores. Los sitios monitoreados correspondieron a las áreas de influencia del proyecto: Área Pelambres – Cuncumén (Hualtatas, Alto Manque, Alto Piuquenes, Cerro Amarillo, Cuncumén, Quebrada de Talca, Quebrada Los Quillayes, Tencadán, Laguna El Pelao), Área El Mauro – Monte Aranda (El Mauro, Quebrada Llau – Llau, Monte Aranda) y Área Laguna Conchalí. Considerando ambas temporadas y todas las áreas de estudio, se registró un total acumulado de 192 especies. El área Pelambres – Cuncumén presentó la mayor riqueza de taxa (129), seguido por el sector de Laguna Conchalí con 35 taxa y finalmente área de Mauro – Monte Aranda con 28 taxa.

Blattner1,3 Abstract Background: Triticeae, the tribe of wheat grasses, harbours the cereals barley, rye and wheat and their wild relatives. Although economically important, relationships within the tribe are still not understood. We analysed the phylogeny of chloroplast lineages among nearly all monogenomic Triticeae taxa and polyploid wheat species aiming at a deeper understanding of the tribe’s evolution. We used on- and off-target reads of a target-enrichment experiment followed by Illumina sequencing. Results: The read data was used to assemble the plastid locus ndhF for 194 individuals and the whole chloroplast genome for 183 individuals, representing 53 Triticeae species and 15 genera. We conducted Bayesian and multispecies coalescent analyses to infer relationshipsandestimatedivergencetimesofthetaxa. We present the most comprehensive dated Triticeae chloroplast phylogeny and review previous hypotheses in the framework of our results. Monophyly of Triticeae chloroplasts could not be confirmed, as either Bromus or Psathyrostachys captured a chloroplast from a lineage closely related to a Bromus-Triticeae ancestor. The most recent common ancestor of Triticeae occurred approximately between ten and 19 million years ago. Conclusions: The comparison of the chloroplast phylogeny with available nuclear data in several cases revealed incongruences indicating past hybridizations. Recent events of chloroplast capture were detected as individuals grouped apart from con-specific accessions in otherwise monopyhletic groups. Beyond broadening our understanding of wetland development and ecology, this work intents to enlighten evaluation of wetland mitigation policy, as well as facilitate the success of wetland creation projects. Ten created and five natural freshwater marshes of central Ohio are the focus throughout the study. One of the central chapters (Ch. 3) compares structure and function between created and natural wetlands. The most important finding is that there are significant differences between created and natural wetland soils; this leads to smaller nutrient stocks and slower nutrient cycles in the created wetlands. Time-to-equilibrium estimates for the development of soil and nutrient-related functions are explored in Ch. 4. It is determined that overcoming these differences will require more time than is acceptable for most mitigation policies. The final two chapters explore the habit and ecology of arbuscular mycorrhizae (AM) in created and natural marshes. The presence of AM was high in both created and natural wetlands and across created wetland age.

Despite their importance, these vital resources are in dire need of sustainable and strategic conservation. The IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria are the world’s most widely accepted methodology for assessing species’ risk of extinction, and was applied to a selection of priority CWR extracted from the Harlan and de Wet CWR Inventory (Vincent et al., 2013). Preliminary results show that, seventeen CWR species (6.3%) were found to be threatened with extinction, with 0.7% (two species) being Critically Endangered (CR), 3.4% (nine species) being Endangered (EN), and 2.2% (six species) being Vulnerable (VU).

Martínez Pastur1* Abstract Background: Biodiversity supports multiple ecosystem services, whereas species loss endangers the provision of many services and affects ecosystem resilience and resistance capacity. The increase of remote sensing techniques allows to estimate biodiversity and ecosystem services supply at the landscape level in areas with low available data (e.g. Southern Patagonia). This paper evaluates the potential biodiversity and how it links with ecosystem services, based on vascular plant species across eight ecological areas. We also evaluated the habitat plant requirements and their relation with natural gradients. A total of 977 plots were used to develop habitat suitability maps based on an environmental niche factor analysis of 15 more important indicator species for each ecological area (n = 53 species) using 40 explanatory variables. Finally, these maps were combined into a single potential biodiversity map, which was linked with environmental variables and ecosystem services supply. For comparisons, data were extracted and compared through analyses of variance. Results: The plant habitat requirements varied greatly among the different ecological areas, and it was possible to define groups according to its specialization and marginality indexes. The potential biodiversity map allowed us to detect coldspots in the western mountains and hotspots in southern and eastern areas. Higher biodiversity was associated to higher temperatures and normalized difference vegetation index, while lower biodiversity was related to elevation and rainfall.

Resumen ejecutivo RESUMEN EJECUTIVO Minera Los Pelambres (MLP) como parte de las responsabilidades ambientales que se otorgaron en la resolución de calificación ambiental del Proyecto Integral de Desarrollo (PID), el cual se encuentra aprobado mediante Resolución Exenta N° 38/2004, se comprometió a realizar una descripción cualitativa y cuantitativa del componente Flora y Vegetación de los sistemas de humedales de la cordillera sur de Cuncumén, con el objetivo de estudiar el estado actual de estas formaciones vegetacionales. Para ello, se han realizado siete campañas de terreno en temporada de verano (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017) en el área de estudio de humedales de la cordillera sur de Cuncumén. En este informe se muestran los resultados en detalle de la campaña realizada en febrero del 2017. La evaluación de la flora vascular se realizó a través de inventarios fitosociológicos siguiendo el método descrito por Braun-Blanquet (1987), y la estimación de la vegetacion se realizó mediante a la Carta de Ocupación de Tierras (COT) (Etienne y Prado, 1982).
