Abstract: A comprehensive and up to date summary of the literature on the helminth parasites of lizards and amphisbaenians from South America is herein presented. One-hundred eighteen lizard species from twelve countries were reported in the literature harboring a total of 155 helminth species, being none acanthocephalans, 15 cestodes, 20 trematodes and 111 nematodes. Of these, one record was from Chile and French Guiana, three from Colombia, three from Uruguay, eight from Bolivia, nine from Surinam, 13 from Paraguay, 12 from Venezuela, 27 from Ecuador, 17 from Argentina, 39 from Peru and 103 from Brazil. The present list provides host, geographical distribution (with the respective biome, when possible), site of infection and references from the parasites. A systematic parasite-host list is also provided. Key words: Cestoda, Nematoda, Trematoda, Squamata, neotropical. ANNUAL REPORT 2011 The Centre for Ecological and Evolutionary Synthesis (CEES) combines a broad spectrum of disciplines (such as population biology, statistical and mathematical modelling and genom- ics) to foster the concept of ecology as a driving force of evolu- tion via selective processes, with a corresponding influence of evolutionary changes on ecology. As of 31 December 2011 CEES consists of 125 members including students, researchers, technical and administrative personnel. The centre has a core group of 19 employees of which 12 are full-time, two are employed by the Department of Mathematics, one by the Department of Economy and one by the Institute of Marine Research. In 2011, CEES hosted two Kristine Bonnevie Professors, from Florida State University (USA) and the Norwegian University of Life Sciences. One em- ployee is a visiting scientist at the University of Alberta (Canada). There were representa- tives from 25 nationalities at CEES in 2011. CEES supervised 23 Master and 28 PhD students in 2011, and was also involved in the teaching of 13 PhD/Master courses and 4 Bachelor courses. 4 new PhD students were employed, and 9 PhD students and 8 master students completed their degrees. The CEES graduate school held its annual conference at Holmen Fjordhotell with 114 participants. Approximately 59 MNOK of the total 2011 budget of 121 MNOK came from the 54 exter- nally funded research projects conducted by CEES in 2011. -

E-mail: [email protected] Abstract The genus Homonota comprises nine South American species of terrestrial and nocturnal lizards. Homonota lizards lack the femoral pores typical of other South American Phyllodactylidae, and their infradigital lamellas are not expanded. We here describe a new species, Homonota taragui sp. nov., exclusively found on a small group of three hills up to 179 meters above sea level in central eastern Corrientes Province, Argentina. The new species differs from other Homonota species by a combination of characters, including: a well-marked dorsal, reticulate, dark pattern contrasting with a lighter colored background; small, star-shaped chromatophores on the abdomen; the post-orbital region of the head covered by granular scales; the dorsal and anterior regions of the thighs covered by keeled scales interspersed with cycloid scales; and the internasal scale in contact with rostral scales. -

Herein, we present data on the female reproductive cycle, body size at sexual maturity, litter size and fat-body cycle of one of the world's southernmost reptiles, Liolaemus sarmientoi. We also provide preliminary data on the reproductive cycle of a sympatric species, L. magellanicus. Females of both species start vitellogenesis in late spring, probably arrested or continued at very low rates during brumation resumed in the spring of the next year. This is of particular interest in cases of species whose divergence times are recent, where the con- clusions obtained from a single source of evidence can lead to the incorrect delimitation of entities or assignment of individuals to species. The southernmost species of the Liolaemus kingii group (namely L. baguali, L. escarchadosi, L. sarmientoi, L. tari and the candidate species L. sp. A) show widely overlapping distributions as well as recent mitochondrial divergences, thus phylogenetic relationships and species boundaries are ambiguous. Here we use a comprehensive approach to assess species limits and corroborate their status as independent lineages through the use of four sources of molecular and morphological in- formation (mitochondrial cytochrome-b, nuclear sequences collected by ddRADseq, and linear, meristic and landmark-based morphometrics). -

The Herpetological Collection from Bolivia in the “Estación Biológica De Doñana” (Spain)

Castroviejo** ABSTRACT The collection consists of 822 specimens, of which 529 are amphibians, all of them anurans (5 families, 17 genera and 51 species) and 293 specimens are reptiles (10 fami- lies, 28 genera and 49 species). The collection has around 25% of the amphibians spe- cies known to occur in Bolivia and about 19% of the reptile species. They come from 55 localities of the Bolivian Departments of Beni, Chuquisaca, Cochabamba, La Paz, Potosí and Santa Cruz and represent the following bioregions: Puna, Chaco, Chiquitanian Forest, Wet Savannas, Ceja de Montaña, Yungas, Interandean Dry Valleys and Humid Lowland Forest. The specimens of Scinax chiquitanus and Phrynopus kempffi are paratypes. The record of Pleurodema borelli is the first for the Santa Cruz Department and second for Bolivia. Liolaemus dorbignyi also constitutes the second report for the country and Tropidurus melanopleurus is cited for the first time for the Beni Department.
