History meets state-of-the-art infrastructure on LGV Méditerranée, the classic Marseille-Saint-Charles station and main line contrasts greatly to the modern masterpieces that are Aix-en-Provence and Avignon TGV stations, which are linked by purpose-built high-speed rail capable of supporting 320 km/h operation. Take on the challenge of operating the TGV Duplex, this state-of- the-art unit boasts a capacity exceeding 500 passengers, thanks to its twin deck confi guration, and to ensure safety at the highest speeds is fi tted with no less than 4 safety-critical systems; KVB, VACMA, Crocodile and TVM-430. Featuring many individual services, you’ll always fi nd something going on. INTRODUCING THE SNCF TGV DUPLEX 200 6 The success of high-speed rail in France drove the need to develop the two-level TGV Duplex, which can carry up to 512 passengers, compared to 361 aboard a single-level TGV. This allows the busiest lines to serve more passengers without increasing the frequency of the schedule or the length of trains. Advances in design and construction also improved the power-to- weight ratio compared to the original TGV trains. TGV Duplex consists include two power cars and eight bilevel passenger cars. Beginning in 1995, SNCF purchased 89 Alstom-built trainsets. They operate throughout the LGV network throughout France, sometimes working with two sets coupled together on the busiest lines. The four traction motors in each power car produced up to 8.800 kilowatts of power under 25,000-volt AC LGV overhead lines. It assists in optimization of metro infrastructure investment and running of efficient train services on the network. 11.2 SIGNALLING AND TRAIN CONTROL 11.2.1 Overview Metro carries large number of passengers at a very close headway requiring a very high level of safety enforcement and reliability. At the same time heavy investment in infrastructure and rolling stock necessitates optimization of its capacity to provide the best services to the public. These requirements of the metro are planned to be achieved by adopting ‘CATC’ (Continuous Automatic Train Control System) based on “CBTC” (Communication based Train Control System) which includes ATP (Automatic Train Protection), ATO (Automatic Train Operation) and ATS (Automatic Train Supervision) sub-systems using radio communication between Track side and Train. This will: • Provide high level of safety with trains running at close headway ensuring continuous safe train separation and for bidirectional working. • Eliminate accidents due to driver passing Signal at Danger by continuous speed monitoring and automatic application of brake in case of disregard of signal / warning by the driver. • Provides safety and enforces speed limit on section having permanent and temporary speed restrictions. • Improve capacity with safer and smoother operations.     ENT FEATURE ESPO Marseille 2020 BY JEAN-MICHEL TRIGLIA AND RICHARD NICOLLAS The biennial ESPO meetings have established themselves as the premier forum for paediatric otolaryngologists to share their knowledge and research. Hardly has ESPO Stockholm finished, and plans are already underway for ESPO 2020. Jean-Michel Triglia and Richard Nicollas and tell us what is in store for us. he European Society of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology (ESPO) was founded in 1994 succeeding to Tthe European Working Group in Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology (EWGPO). It aims to promote the quality of care of children with otorhinolaryngological disorders within Europe and is involved in scientific, educational and charitable activities. The biennial ESPO Congress is the largest paediatric otorhinolaryngology meeting in the world, held in Europe every two years but with speakers and delegates drawn from around the globe. The next ESPO meeting will be held in the city of Marseille on 23-26 May 2020 in the prestigious Le Palais du Pharo. The Aix Marseille University, the Medical School of Marseille and its department of paediatric otorhinolaryngology will be the hosts of this meeting. At the present time, this department includes six full-time practitioners, two fellows and four residents. The organisation of this meeting is the collaborative effort of this department and the most important French ENT and paediatric societies - AFOP (French Association of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology), SFORL (French Society of Otorhinolaryngology), Collège Français d’ORL et chirurgie cervico-faciale (French Academy of ENT head and neck surgery), SFP (French Society of Pediatrics). Otology, rhinology, laryngology, and head and neck surgery are not only interconnected in this specialty, but also form links with other fields including infectiology, genetics, communication, cerebral plasticity, transitions from Aerial view of the Palais du Pharo and Marseilles’ downtown.
