    ENT FEATURE ESPO Marseille 2020 BY JEAN-MICHEL TRIGLIA AND RICHARD NICOLLAS The biennial ESPO meetings have established themselves as the premier forum for paediatric otolaryngologists to share their knowledge and research. Hardly has ESPO Stockholm finished, and plans are already underway for ESPO 2020. Jean-Michel Triglia and Richard Nicollas and tell us what is in store for us. he European Society of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology (ESPO) was founded in 1994 succeeding to Tthe European Working Group in Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology (EWGPO). It aims to promote the quality of care of children with otorhinolaryngological disorders within Europe and is involved in scientific, educational and charitable activities. The biennial ESPO Congress is the largest paediatric otorhinolaryngology meeting in the world, held in Europe every two years but with speakers and delegates drawn from around the globe. The next ESPO meeting will be held in the city of Marseille on 23-26 May 2020 in the prestigious Le Palais du Pharo. The Aix Marseille University, the Medical School of Marseille and its department of paediatric otorhinolaryngology will be the hosts of this meeting. At the present time, this department includes six full-time practitioners, two fellows and four residents. The organisation of this meeting is the collaborative effort of this department and the most important French ENT and paediatric societies - AFOP (French Association of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology), SFORL (French Society of Otorhinolaryngology), Collège Français d’ORL et chirurgie cervico-faciale (French Academy of ENT head and neck surgery), SFP (French Society of Pediatrics). Timothée Albessard Héloïse Chauvel Leaticia Ouedragao Coline Renaud Cassandra Windey 1 Avec sa nomination comme capitale européenne de la culture en 2013, Marseille semble tourner la page d’une ère de gestion publique, négligeant les politiques culturelles (Fabiani, 2008). L’événement Marseille-Provence 2013 vient couronner l’effort de la métropole de mise en valeur de la ville par les grands projets de restructuration en cours (piétonisation de la Canebière, métamorphose du secteur de la Bourse, rénovation de la corniche Kennedy, etc.), en le couplant à une consonante résolument culturelle que lui procure le label européen. Les acteurs publics, notamment sous l’impulsion de la métropole nouvellement créée (2013), paraissent ainsi vouloir articuler la rénovation de la ville à des choix forts en termes d’infrastructures culturelles, dont le symbole le plus flamboyant est le Musée des Civilisations de l’Europe et de la Méditerranée (MuCEM), construit par l’État qui apportait ainsi un financement que les collectivités territoriales ne pouvaient pas fournir. En misant sur la culture comme moteur de régénération urbaine, la ville s’inspire de cas européens répertoriés, dont ceux de Bilbao et Glasgow (Jeannier, 2008), où la culture est utilisée comme un outil de régénération urbaine et de redynamisation d’un territoire. Pourtant, la volonté de faire des politiques culturelles un moteur de revalorisation est surprenante dans une ville qui, dans les années 1980 encore, ne valorisait pas les infrastructures culturelles comme une spécificité marseillaise et ne comptait pas encore d’infrastructure d’envergure.
