In particular, now that they are joining their trajectories. Both companies have gone through many crises, long histories and strong company cultures. In particular, Chrysler in the last 15 years has been characterised by three acquisitions/mergers; each can be considered a good research field. The paper describes the trends occurred by Fiat and Chrysler before the alliance and the targets to make Fiat-Chrysler a viable carmaker. Keywords: mergers and acquisitions; business-product strategies; world class manufacturing; multinational strategies; Fiat-Chrysler. Review of Advancement in Variable Valve Actuation of Internal Combustion Engines
applied sciences Review Review of Advancement in Variable Valve Actuation of Internal Combustion Engines Zheng Lou 1,* and Guoming Zhu 2 1 LGD Technology, LLC, 11200 Fellows Creek Drive, Plymouth, MI 48170, USA 2 Mechanical Engineering, Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI 48824, USA; [email protected] * Correspondence: [email protected] Received: 16 December 2019; Accepted: 22 January 2020; Published: 11 February 2020 Abstract: The increasing concerns of air pollution and energy usage led to the electrification of the vehicle powertrain system in recent years. On the other hand, internal combustion engines were the dominant vehicle power source for more than a century, and they will continue to be used in most vehicles for decades to come; thus, it is necessary to employ advanced technologies to replace traditional mechanical systems with mechatronic systems to meet the ever-increasing demand of continuously improving engine efficiency with reduced emissions, where engine intake and the exhaust valve system represent key subsystems that affect the engine combustion efficiency and emissions. This paper reviews variable engine valve systems, including hydraulic and electrical variable valve timing systems, hydraulic multistep lift systems, continuously variable lift and timing valve systems, lost-motion systems, and electro-magnetic, electro-hydraulic, and electro-pneumatic variable valve actuation systems. Keywords: engine valve systems; continuously variable valve systems; engine valve system control; combustion optimization 1. Introduction With growing concerns on energy security and global warming, there are global efforts to develop more efficient vehicles with lower regulated emissions, including hybrid electrical vehicles, electrical vehicles, and fuel cell vehicles. Hybrid electrical vehicles became a significant part of vehicle production because of their overall efficiency, and they still pose a significant cost penalty, resulting in a stagnant market penetration of 3.2% and 2.7% in 2013 and 2018, respectively, in the United States (US), for example [1]. -

Iniezione the Newsletter of the Northwest Alfa Romeo Club
Iniezione The newsletter of the Northwest Alfa Romeo Club This Article Didn’t Write Itself It Had Help from the October Club Meeting Ever wanted to write an article for the newsletter but didn’t know quite how or where to start? Several budding scribes attended our October 10th club meeting at Wild About Cars Garage to learn from a true professional. Cindy Akana has a strong back- ground in technical and creative writing, and current- ly teaches in the Seattle area on, among other sub- jects, communications skills. The fact that she can keep Fred in line (more or less) is testament to her ability to take charge of a boisterous group. But first, our regular club business included the all-important social greet-and-eat in the inspiring surroundings of Wild About Cars Garage. It’s always fascinating to see what new cars are on display there, and amongst the Porsches, Cobras and Cor- vettes this month the gems included a rare and high- ly-regarded Noble M12 GTO-3R, an English sports/ track car of which only 220 have been imported to the US. Now that would be fun at the Driving School ing an article for publication. This produced a fair in November... amount of nervousness on its own, but its value After a run-through on recent activities, current showed immediately we got up the courage to share status and future attractions from various club board our thoughts, as it turned out everyone was worried members, it was on to the main event. PRESS RELEASE // JANUARY 2018 THE ABARTH SAGA, A TASTE OF THE SWISS COLLECTION OF ENGELBERT MÖLL AT THE RETROMOBILE SHOW Reborn 10 years ago, the Italian racing car market with the scorpion outstripped all the major names during the post-war boom. This amazing adventure will be recounted during the Retromobile show through 22 models taken from Engelbert Möll’s magnificent Swiss collection CARLO ABARTH, A CHARACTER ! When it comes to wizards with mechanics, France had Amédée Gordini. Italy had Carlo Abarth. On 15 November 1908, Dora Taussig, heir to a textiles company, gave birth to a baby boy with a strong character: Karl Abarth, mostly know under the name of Carl. As a teenager, he showed a strong interest in mechanics, particularly everything to do with motorcycles. Initially, he worked for Castagna & C in Vienna, but then his career The Engelbert Möll’s collection path changed when he joined the Motor Thun workshop (run by Copyrights : Rémi DARGEGEN Count Thun). When one of its drivers defected, he found himself competing in Austria’s motorcycle grand prix. He raced the fastest time in the free trials and the qualifying heats: Karl had entered the big boys’ playground. The die has been cast and it was the beginning of a series of victory. His reputation extended well beyond Austria: he managed to win a wager that he could beat the Orient Express on the Vienna-to-Ostend stretch. In 1938, he was asked to race for Italy – the birthplace of his own father who had come back to live in Merano, in the Trentino. -
