November Genre of the Month – Traditional Literature

We have been studying traditional literature, also known as folktales, in Reading class for the past 2 weeks. These stories tend to be VERY short and contain exaggerations and elements of magic.

For the month of November, you will need to read 2 of each of the types of folktales we discussed (fairy tales, fables, myths, legends, and tall tales). You will use the stories to fill in the charts found on the next two pages. Please also reference the chart that we glued into our Literary Elements section on Monday, November 2, 2015 to help you fill in your charts.

What books are considered Traditional Literature? You can always google fairy tales, fables, myths, legends, and tall tales to help you find these stories, but below you will find some examples of this genre. Many of these stories can be read online for free, or of course, you can visit your local library to check out some of these great titles. Many will be in picture book form.
