Hiking in Inzell

Around the Falkenstein (valley hike, approx. 2 hrs.) This trail leads from the village square crossing under the B 306 to the district of Kreuzfeld and further on the Adlgasser Straße to a brook, the Falkenseebach. Before getting to the bridge (discount market) trail no. 11 takes a right turn to “Hausmann”. Here this grassy path leads onto a small road leading in eastern direction, this path runs along the foot of the Falkenstein. On a pleasant level path (nature reserve), crossing the Falkenseebach twice, the Falkensee is reached (refuge hut). Keep to this way at the foot of the Falkenstein. After leaving the woods, in sight of the district Zwing, the path turns into northern direction, running parallel to the B305, after 400 m through the wood again, along a cliff downhill to the Zwingsee and the ice arena. Here you can get onto the foot path into Inzell.

Panoramic route (approx. 3 ½ hrs.) Begin at the village square and head in an easterly direction via the Adlgasser Straße to the Falkensteinweg and proceed in the direction of Breitmoos. Then follow the slight descent to the Gemeindestraße to the outer Adlgasser Straße. Here, cross the Großwalderbach to Teisenberg, Ed, Weissenweg. You cross the federal road and pass Berghof across the Inzeller Moor to the Salinenweg. After this you turn southwards until you reach Niederachen and return to the village via the Schmelzer Straße.

Frillensee and mountain forest adventure trail (valley hike approx. 3 hrs.) The trail no. 14 leads from the hiking car park and bus stop to the Forsthaus Adlgaß (inn) and further on to the edge of the woods to the Frillenseebach and running along the brook (start of the mountain forest adventure trail) crossing a forest road to the start of the Frillensee circular trail. After about 500 m there is a splendid view of the Staufen massif and the Frillensee at 922 m. A bit below this path there is the Gaßlalm (a forestry service hut). After passing it there is a full view of the lake. When following this route there is a refuge hut at the eastern bank of the lake, a charming resting place (end of mountain forest adventure trail). From here you can walk around the lake until reaching the forestry road again. By turning right, you get back to the way taken uphill, staying on the path, trail no. 14, straight on, you'll reach the inn, Forsthaus Adlgaß (closed on Tuesdays) via the forest road and tobogganing run. Way back as trail no. 15 or taking the village bus back to Inzell.

Inzell – Großer Kienberg (mountain hike approx. 3 ½ hrs.) For mountain lovers who think that trail no. 18 leading through the “Aschgrün”, might be too steep, this climb via the Kienbergsattel is recommended. From the car park or the RVO bus stop “Schmelz” you take the road at the Gasthof Schmelz in a pointed angle up on the right up to the “Alpenstraße”. Here you walk for about 500 m in western direction to the first bridge, turn left onto the trail no. 19. Climbing uphill slowly through spruce forest, reaching the Roßgaß-Boden at 1,017 m. from here there is a superb view of the vast rocky massif of the Roßgasse at the “Hinterer Rauschberg” (1,671 m). From here it is a pleasant walk on a forest road that takes a left turn right under the rock falls leading to a service hut. Past the hut, trail no. 19 turns right leading up the western slopes of the Inzell Kienberg to the saddle at an altitude of 1,420 m. At the fork keeping to the left, trail no. 19 (on the right trail no. 20, 45 minutes to the Rauschbergbahn, there possibility to take the cable car down and going back by RVO bus to Inzell), reaching the Kienbergalm pasture after a short time. From here there is a path leading in 30 minutes to the Keitlalm (closed), trail no. 18, 1h15 and no. 21 (free from vertigo and sure-footedness absolutely essential), 2 hrs. to Zwing, back by RVO bus or trail no. 22 in 2h45 to Inzell.

Bäckeralm (Alpine pasture hike, approx. 3 hrs.) From hiking car park or bus stop of the village bus line in Adlgaß, go 300 m in western direction until “Leitstube” (accommodation for forestry workers). There the road (trail no. 26 and 29) takes a right turn, leading slightly uphill. After about 300 m there is a fork, you take the left path, trail no. 26, in a wide loop for about 500 m, then turn right over a pasture to the Bäckeralm, 1,067 m (open May to September). Back via trail no. 29 (forest road) or from the Bäckeralm via footpath to trail no. 29 to the starting point.

Valley hike through moor land (valley hike) Leaving from the village square on the Traunsteiner Straße in northern direction for about 150 m, just before the bridge, turn left here walk along the brook Großwalderbach about 600 m in western direction until a small bridge crosses the brook, on that path along the water and at the edge of the Inzeller Filze (moor) to the second bridge, crossing the brook to the left (fish farm), after about 100 m turning right into the “Salinenweg”/historical saline path (info post for the former brine pipeline). Following this road until the first left turn, straight on the grassy path to the district of Wien (Antoniuskapelle/St. Anthony's chapel). From here further on the saline path (former route of the brine pipeline along the “Rote ” to Hammer (RVO bus from Hammer back to Inzell, bus stop next to the church).
