Maria Macuch and Iranian Studies
Maria Macuch and Iranian Studies Almut Hintze Maria Macuch is the daughter of the semitist Rudolf Macuch and Iran- dokht Shaghaghi.1 Her parents met during the years 1945−1947 when students in Paris, where Rudolf studied Arabic and Semitic languages, and Irandokht Hygiene at the Faculty of Medicine. Soon after their marriage on 31 March 1949 in Bratislava they transferred to Iran, and Maria was born in 1 January 1950 in Tehran, where she spent the first six years of her life. In 1956 Rudolf Macuch received an invitation from Lady Drower to work with her on the Mandaic Dictionary at the Oriental Institute in Oxford and the family moved there in October of the same year. Maria remembers this trip as the most exciting journey of her life, travelling by train from Tehran via Turkey across the European continent and a stormy English channel (Macuch 2008 a, p. 13). In Oxford Maria went to the SS Philip and James’ Church of England Primary School, and her mother converted to Christianity. Life in Oxford has made an abiding impression on Maria, and she never misses an opportunity to visit the city where she spent two very happy years of her childhood. After Rudolf Macuch’s fellowship had come to an end, and since life in Iran seemed undesirable for a Christian convert, the small family moved to Windsor, Canada in 1958 and Maria’s father took up the position of a vicar. His dream of a uni- versity career eventually came true when he was invited to the Chair of Semitic and Arabic Studies at the Freie Universität Berlin. -
On the Good Faith
On the Good Faith Zoroastrianism is ascribed to the teachings of the legendary prophet Zarathustra and originated in ancient times. It was developed within the area populated by the Iranian peoples, and following the Arab conquest, it formed into a diaspora. In modern Russia it has evolved since the end of the Soviet era. It has become an attractive object of cultural produc- tion due to its association with Oriental philosophies and religions and its rearticulation since the modern era in Europe. The lasting appeal of Zoroastrianism evidenced by centuries of book pub- lishing in Russia was enlivened in the 1990s. A new, religious, and even occult dimension was introduced with the appearance of neo-Zoroastrian groups with their own publications and online websites (dedicated to Zoroastrianism). This study focuses on the intersectional relationships and topical analysis of different Zoroastrian themes in modern Russia. A Sequel To Essentials of Zoroastrianism (1951) Late Dr. Framroze Sorabji Chiniwala B.A., L.M.&S. 2002 Late Dr. F. S. Chiniwala published in 1941 his book in English entitled 'Essentials of Zoroastrianism' for the Parsi public. FOREWORD This small book containing some main features of the Mazdyasni Zarthosti Daen will be of use to a novice. It will furnish some knowledge about the religion. Special care is taken to present to view the main spiritual aspect of the religion. The mere materialistic view point does not help much, as that view is common in all religions; hence no special mark of demarcation can be drawn by it. It is the spiritual aspect only which gives a vivid picture as it ought to be. -

Alongside, there is the main and older Dakhma that probably belongs to Sassanians. Since about 1320 S.H. that Zoroastrians burial tradition was changed because of the social and hygienic reasons, it was disused and now, is in undesirable condition. On the base of contemporary theory of conservation, one of the best ways to conservation of architectural heritage is regeneration and rehabilitation and put them into consideration if possible. There is three basic method to conserve an architectural monument based on contemporary and classical theories: the first one is protective preservation with focus on maintenance of physical conditions of monument in present situation and prevents it from changes; the second is restoration in old usage for continuity, and the third one is revitalization and rehabilitation with new usage that is relevance to the authenticity and identity. -

Bu ba ğlamda Mecusilik üç temel teolojik süreç çerçevesinde ele alınmaktadır. Bu ba ğlamda birinci teolojik süreçte Mecusili ğin kurucusu addedilen Zerdü şt’ün kendisine atfedilen Gatha metninde tanrı Ahura Mazda çerçevesinde ortaya koydu ğu tanrı tasavvuru incelenmektedir. Burada Zerdü şt’ün anahtar kavram olarak belirledi ği tanrı Ahura Mazda ve onunla ili şkilendirilen di ğer ilahi figürlerin ili şkisi esas alınmaktadır. Zerdü şt sonrası Mecusi teolojisinin şekillendi ği Avesta metinleri ikinci teolojik süreci ihtiva etmektedir. Bu dönem Zerdü şt’ten önceki İran’ın tanrı tasavvurlarının yeniden kutsal metne yani Avesta’ya dahil edilme sürecini yansıtmaktadır. Dolayısıyla Avesta edebiyatı Zerdü şt sonrası dönü şen bir teolojiyi sunmaktadır. Bu noktada ba şta Ahura Mazda kavramı olmak üzere, Zerdü şt’ün Gatha’da ortaya koydu ğu mefhumların de ğişti ği görülmektedir. -
Avesta Classes
CZC Class Curriculum Kindergarten Class: Students will learn 1- Persian songs such as The Alphabet song. 2- Lessons from stories. 3- Learn about major festivities such as Nowruz, Mehregan, and Yalda. 4- Basic colors, shapes, and numbers in Persian. 5- Students will be introduced to different Persian characters and their sounds. 6- Students will become familiar with writing from right to left. Persian Classes: First, Second, Third, and Fourth: Students will master the Persian Alphabet as well as reading and writing in Persian. Persian Literature and Poetry: Students are taught stories from 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade Persian books. Writing and reading in Persian is required. Children will learn Persian proverbs and Shahnameh stories. Class is taught in Persian. Iran History and Culture: In this class students are taught in 3 segments: • All about Iran (Geography, History, Art, & Culture) taught in both English/Persian. • Teachings of Gathas taught in English. (Persian only for those who can't understand English) • Stories with moral & ethic teachings/Puzzles & Games in Persian and English. Zoroastrian Perspective (Teen): In this class the teaching style is in a way of discussions and projects. Morals and ethics are based on Gathas and is taught through discussions. Projects will bring these teachings into action. The class is taught in English. Avesta classes: Introduction to Avesta: Students will learn the basic Zoroastrian principles such as Good Thoughts, Good Words, Good Deeds, responsibility for their actions, charity, and the Ashem Vohu. Beginner Avesta: The younger students will learn Ashem Vohu, Yatha Ahu, and Hama Zoor Bim. As well as the basics of The Zoroastrian religion such as Ahura Mazda, Faravahar, Ashoo Zartosht, and good virtues that build up character. -

It is in 2 parts. 2nd part contains the Essential KUSHTI Prayers for a NAVJOTEE, with their substance to enhance the moral value. The Basic Prayers are: ~ 1. Ashem Vohu 2. Yatha Ahu Vairyo 3. Yenghe Hatam 4. Kemna Mazda 5. Hormazd Khodai 6. Jasme Avanghahe Mazda 6. Din No Kalmo 7. Sarosh Baj (Jamvani Baaj & Patet Pashemani also were said Traditionally.) A NAVJOTEE should learn by heart, these prayers before the INITIATION Ceremony. -
