PREFACE

PURPOSE The iPad 2 Version 5.1 User Guide is designed to be used by teenagers, adults, and business professionals. It provides clear and concise step-by-step instructions for both the novice and experienced users.

After reading this user guide, you will be able to:

The ultimate aim of this user guide is to establish a solid understanding of the iPad 2 and optimize the use of its key features and applications.

HOW THIS BOOK IS ORGANIZED The contents of this book are organized into six chapters.

Chapter 1: Introduction introduces you to iPad 2 by identifying some key physical features, status icons, and system requirements.

Chapter 2: Getting Started provides detailed instructions on how to setup iPad 2, use buttons, and edit its settings.

Chapter 3: Applications discusses how to use pre-loaded applications, as well as how to download and install new applications. It discusses applications that can be used for personal and business purposes.

Chapter 4: Document Management discusses the process of printing and file sharing through iPad 2.

Chapter 5: Maintenance offers instructions about how to clean and charge iPad 2.

Chapter 6: Troubleshooting discusses how to manage some technical issues that users may run into while using iPad 2.

INTRODUCTION

OVERVIEW This chapter is divided into three sections: “Technical Specifications”, “Physical Features”, and “Status Icons”. The section “Technical Specifications” lists some technical specifications of iPad 2. The section “Physical Features” provides an overview of key physical features of iPad 2. Lastly, the section “Status Icons” lists and describes some key status icons.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS This section details some technical specifications of iPad 2, version 5.1.

MODEL iPad 2 v. 5.1 is an MC770C model.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS  connection  Apple ID including iCloud, the , and the iTunes Store  Syncing with iTunes requires: o Mac OS X v. 10.5.8 or later o Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows Professional or later  iTunes 10.6 or later

STORAGE  iPad 2: 28.6 MB  iCloud: 5.0 GB

DISPLAY iPad 2 has a 1024 by 768 resolution. It has a Light Emitting Diode (LED) backlist with multi-touch In-Plane Switching (IPS) display.

CAMERA  Front camera: VGA, up to 30 frames per second with audio  Back camera: HD, up to 30 frames per second with audio  over Wi-Fi

WIRELESS iPad 2 uses Wi-Fi technology and Bluetooth 2.1.

PHYSICAL FEATURES This section details some key physical features of iPad 2.

MULTI-TOUCH SCREEN iPad 2 has a multi-touch screen (see fig. 1) that uses In-Plane Switching (IPS) technology. It is used to navigate, zoom in and out, use the keyboard, and select applications.

STATUS BAR A status bar is located on the top of the display screen (see fig. 1). It displays several status icons, such as Wi-Fi status , Bluetooth status icon, battery status icon, activity icon, and local time. These status icons show the status of different processes that are running on iPad 2.

CAMERA iPad 2 has two cameras: the front camera is located at the top-centre part of the front of iPad 2 (see fig. 1), and the back camera is located at the top-right corner of the back of iPad 2 (see fig. 2). These cameras are used for taking photographs and recording videos.

USB MICROPHONE A USB microphone is located at the top-centre part of the back of iPad 2, between the headphone jack and the Sleep/Wake button (see fig. 2). It is used to transmit audios for online voice conversations or video recordings.

HEADPHONE JACK A 3.5 mm stereo headphone jack is located at the top-left corner of the back of iPad 2 (see fig. 2). It is used to connect a headphone to iPad 2.

DOCK CONNECTOR The connector is located at the lower-centre of the back of iPad 2, right below the Home button (see fig. 2). It accepts different types of USB cables and adapters.

SPEAKER A built-in speaker is located at the lower-right corner of the back of the dock connector (see fig. 2). This speaker relies on Apple’s Airplay technology and the wireless Bluetooth technology. It is used to transmit sounds from iPad 2.

BUTTONS This subsection provides a brief description of the buttons. Refer to Chapter 2: Getting Started to learn more.

HOME BUTTON The Home button is located at the lower-centre part of the front of iPad 2 (see fig. 1). It is used to display the Home screen, and open and adjust the multitasking bar.

VOLUME BUTTON The Volume button is located at the top-right corner of the back of iPad 2 (see fig. 2). It is used to adjust the volume settings.

SLEEP/WAKE BUTTON The Sleep/Wake button is located at the top-right corner of the back of iPad 2, above the back camera (see fig. 2). It is used to lock and unlock iPad 2, switch iPad 2 on or off, and configure its security settings.

SIDE SWITCH The Side Switch is located at the top-right corner of the back of iPad 2, above the Volume button (see fig. 2). It is used to mute notifications and sound effects, but not the audio playbacks for movies and TV shows. It is also used to lock the screen orientation.

STATUS ICONS This section provides names, icons, and purpose of some key status icons of iPad 2.

VPN Shows that iPad 2 is connected to a network through VPN. Personal Shows that iPad 2 is providing a Personal Hotspot to another iPhone or iPad. Syncing Shows that iPad 2 is syncing with iTunes. Activity Shows network or other activity.

Lock Shows that iPad 2 is locked.

Screen Orientation Shows that screen orientation is Lock locked. Location Services Shows that iPad 2 is using Location Services. Play Shows that iPad 2 is playing an audio.

Bluetooth Shows that iPad 2 is paired with a Bluetooth. Airplane Mode Shows that iPad 2 is in the Airplane mode. Battery Shows the battery level or charging

status.

GETTING STARTED

OVERVIEW This chapter is divided into three sections: “Setting Up iPad 2”, “Using Buttons”, and “Editing Settings”. The section “Setting Up iPad 2” provides detailed instructions on how to configure and set up iPad 2. The section “Using Buttons” discusses how to efficiently operate iPad 2 by using buttons. Lastly, the section “Editing Settings” provides detailed instructions on how to edit settings of some features of iPad 2.

SETTING UP IPAD 2 This section provides instructions on how to configure and set up iPad 2.

CONFIGURING IPAD 2 Configuring iPad 2 is a multi-step process. It involves selecting the desired language, geographical location, and Wi-Fi network, and enabling location services.

Unlocking iPad 2

To unlock iPad 2:

1. Hold down the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears. 2. Slide your finger across the bar to continue.

Selecting Language

To select language:

1. Select the arrow to open the Language menu.

Selecting Country

To select country:

1. Select Show More to open the Country or Region menu.

Enabling Location Services

Location Services allow the global positioning system and other applications to collect and utilize data about your current location. By using this data, applications can give you the best available options.

To enable Location Services:

1. Select Enable Location Services. 2. Select Next to continue.

Selecting a Wi-Fi Network

To select a Wi-Fi Network:

1. Select a network from the Choose a Network pane.

2. Enter password in the Password textbox. 3. Select Join. 4. Select Next to continue.

SETTING UP IPAD 2 Setting up iPad 2 is a multi-step process. It involves logging into your Apple account, agreeing to Terms and Conditions, syncing with iCloud, and enabling different services.

Launching Setup

To launch the setup process:

1. Select Setup as New iPad.

2. Select Next to continue.

Logging into Apple.com (optional)

Logging into Apple.com allows you to download movies, videos, or applications from iCloud, App Store, or iTunes Store.

Note: In order to log into Apple.com, you must possess a valid Apple ID.

To log into Apple.com:

1. Select Sign in with an Apple ID.

2. Enter your Apple ID in the Apple ID textbox. 3. Enter a password in the Password textbox. 4. Select Next to continue.

Agreeing to Terms and Conditions

To agree to Terms and Conditions:

1. Read the Terms and Conditions. 2. Select Agree. 3. Select Agree to continue.

Syncing with iCloud iCloud is a cloud storage service offered by Apple Inc. It provides space to store backup , email accounts, and iPad service.

To sync with iCloud:

1. Select Use iCloud.

4. Select Next to continue.

Enabling/Disabling Find My iPad

Find My iPad is a service that locates a misplaced iPad by using iPod touch, another iPad, or Internet. Alternatively, you may visit www..com or www.me.com to find a lost iPad.

To enable or disable Find My iPad:

1. Select Use Find my iPad or Don’t Use Find my iPad.

2. Select Next to continue.

Enabling Automatically Send

Automatically Send is a service that sends daily diagnostic and usage data to Apple Inc. This data helps Apple Inc. improve its products and services.

To enable or disable Automatically Send:

1. Select Automatically Send or Don’t Send.

2. Select Next to continue.

Registering iPad 2

To register iPad 2:

1. Turn Register with Apple on by sliding your finger across the ON/OFF bar. 2. Select Next to continue.

Starting iPad 2

To start iPad 2, select Start Using iPad.

USING BUTTONS iPad 2 has four types of buttons: Home button, Volume button, Sleep/Wake button, and Side Switch. This section describes how to operate iPad 2 by using these buttons.

HOME BUTToN  View the Home screen by pressing the Home button.

 Open the Search iPad search bar by visiting the Home screen and pressing the Home button.  Display the multitasking bar by unlocking iPad 2 and then double-clicking the Home button.

VOLUME BUTTON  Increase the volume by pressing the side of the Volume button that is near the Side Switch.  Decrease the volume by pressing the side of the Volume button that is away from the Side Switch.  Mute the sound by holding down the side of the Volume button that is away from the Side Switch.

SLEEP/WAKE BUTTON  Lock iPad 2 by pressing the Sleep/Wake button.  Unlock iPad 2 by pressing the Sleep/Wake or the Home button.  Turn iPad 2 on by holding down the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears on the screen.  Turn iPad 2 off by holding down the Sleep/Wake button until a slide bar appears. Slide your finger across this bar to turn off iPad 2.

SIDE SWITCH  Mute alerts, sound effects, and notifications by sliding the Side Switch down.

EDITING SETTINGS iPad 2 settings can be edited after completing the setup process. This section describes how to edit settings for sounds, Bluetooth, Accessibility, and security features.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN Open the General pane by visiting the Home screen, and then selecting Settings > General.

ADJUSTING SOUNDS To adjust the volume of the ringer and other sounds:

1. Select Sounds from the General pane. 2. Adjust the ringer volume by sliding your finger across the Ringer and Alerts volume bar.

3. Adjust other sounds (such as Ringtone, Text Tone, and New Mail) by selecting them from the Sounds pane.

CONFIGURING BLUETOOTH SETTINGS iPad 2 allows you to connect wirelessly to Bluetooth devices, such as headphones and “”. Editing Bluetooth settings involves pairing with or unpairing from Bluetooth devices.

Note: The Bluetooth status icon is white when Bluetooth is on and paired with iPad 2. The Bluetooth status icon is grey when Bluetooth is on and paired with iPad 2, but the device is out of range. The Bluetooth status icon is absent when the Bluetooth is off or not paired with iPad 2.

PAIRING WITH BLUETOOTH To pair with a Bluetooth device:

1. Select Bluetooth from the General pane. 2. Turn Bluetooth on by sliding your finger across the ON/OFF bar.

3. Turn your Bluetooth device on. 4. Connect to your Bluetooth device by selecting it from the Devices pane.

5. Select Not Paired. 6. Enter the PIN displayed on iPad 2 into your Bluetooth device.

UNPAIRING FROM BLUETOOTH To unpair from a Bluetooth device:

1. Turn your Bluetooth device on. 2. Select your Bluetooth device from the Devices pane. 3. Select Forget this Device.

EDITING SECURITY SETTINGS iPad 2 has three security features: Auto-Lock, Passcode Lock, and iPad Cover Lock. This subsection provides instructions for editing settings of Auto-Lock and Passcode Lock.

AUTO-LOCK Auto-Lock locks iPad 2 by turning off the display after it has been idle for some time. This preserves the battery power.

To turn Auto-Lock on:

1. Select Auto-Lock from the General pane. 2. Select an option from the Auto-Lock pane.

PASSCODE LOCK Passcode Lock protects the data found on iPad 2. This passcode must be entered each time you turn on or wake up iPad 2. iPad 2 allows you to set either a simple passcode or a complex passcode.

SIMPLE PASSCODE A simple passcode is only four digits long.

To set up a simple passcode:

1. Select Passcode Lock from the General pane. 2. Turn Simple Passcode on by sliding your finger across the ON/OFF bar. 3. Select Turn Passcode On.

4. Enter a passcode in the Set Passcode dialog.

5. Re-enter the passcode in the Set Passcode dialog.

COMPLEX PASSCODE A complex passcode contains a combination of letters, , special characters, and punctuations. It can only be generated by turning off the simple passcode.

To set up a complex passcode:

1. Select Passcode Lock from the General pane. 2. Turn Simple Passcode off by sliding your finger across the ON/OFF bar. 3. Select Turn Passcode On.

4. Enter a passcode in the Set Passcode dialog.

5. Select Next. 6. Re-enter the passcode in the Set Passcode dialog. 7. Select Done.

EDITING ACCESSIBILITY SETTINGS iPad 2 has several accessibility features that support users with vision, hearing, physical, and motor disabilities. This subsection provides detailed instructions on how to enable Mono Audio, Zoom, and Large Text.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN Open the Accessibility pane by selecting Accessibility from the General pane.

MONO AUDIO Mono Audio combines sound into one mono signal that is played on both sides of your headphones. If you have a hearing impairment that affects one of your ears, turning this feature on will allow you to hear the sound from the other ear.

To turn Mono Audio on:

1. Turn Mono Audio on by sliding your finger across the ON/OFF bar. 2. Edit the sound balance between the right and left channels by sliding your finger across the L/R bar.

ZOOM Zoom aids the users who have vision problems by magnifying the screen for better viewing.

To turn Zoom on:

1. Select Zoom from the Vision pane. 2. Turn Zoom on by sliding your finger across the ON/OFF bar.

LARGE TEXT Large Text aids users with vision problems by enlarging text in Contacts, Mail, , , and .

To turn Large Text on:

1. Select Large Text from the Vision pane. 2. Select the desired text size from the Large Text pane.

APPLICATIONS

OVERVIEW This chapter is divided into two sections: “Applications for Personal Use” and “Applications for Businesses”. The section “Application for Personal Use” lists some applications that are frequently used by adults and teenagers. It then provides instructions for using some difficult applications. The section “Applications for Businesses” provides an overview of some applications and instructions on how to download and install them on iPad 2.

APPLICATIONS FOR PERSONAL USE This section lists and describes several applications that are installed in a newly purchased iPad 2. These applications can be grouped in the following categories: browser, communication, entertainment, digital literature, digital photography, and personal maintenance.

These applications can be accessed from the Home screen. Frequently used applications can be accessed from the multitasking bar.

Note: Functionality and availability of these applications vary depending on where you purchase and use iPad 2.

You can open multiple , add and organize bookmarks, see viewing history, and print documents by using Safari. Communication Mail Mail allows you to read, write, and send emails. You can work with multiple accounts, such as , Yahoo, and AOL. Facetime Facetime allows you to make video calls over Wi-Fi. Messages Messages allows you to send and receive messages, photos, and videos to individuals or groups. Entertainment YouTube YouTube connects you to YouTube where you may view or upload videos. Music allows you to browse stored music collection and create . Videos Videos allows you to play videos, movies, and from iTunes. iTunes iTunes gives you access to the iTunes store where you may buy or rent movies, music, podcasts, and .

Game Center allows you play games with your friends or any person who has an account with Game Center. Online Store App Store App Store allows you to download or purchase business, educational, and entertainment applications. You can also read and write reviews. Digital Literature Newsstand allows you to download, buy, and view magazines, , and newspapers. You can choose from a variety of categories, such as lifestyle, sports, business, and education. Digital Photography Photo Booth allows you to take and edit pictures by using iPad 2. It lets you instantly add a variety of special effects, such as X-Ray, Thermal Camera, and Kaleidoscope to the pictures. Camera Camera allows to take pictures or record movies. Photos Photos allows you to organize videos and photos. You can run a slideshow, upload videos to YouTube, edit photos, and email photos or videos. Maintenance Tools Calendar Calendar allows you to view calendar and events. You can also add and manage events and search the calendar for invitees, location, and titles of events. Notes Notes allows you to write, edit, email, and print personalized notes. Reminders allows you to add reminders by using your mailing account or iCloud. You can edit, search, and add reminders to a specific date of the calendar. Contacts Contacts organizes your address book by grouping them according to the type of account. DOCUMENT MANAGEMENT

OVERVIEW This chapter is divided into three sections: “Saving Attachments”, “Printing”, and “File Sharing”. The section “Saving Attachments” provides instructions on how to download and save attached files that are sent through email. The section “Printing” provides detailed instructions on how to print documents from iPad 2. Lastly, the section “File Sharing” discusses how to transfer files between iPad 2 and the computer.

SAVING ATTACHMENTS iPad 2 allows you to download and save audio attachments (MP3, AAC, and WAV files), images (JPEG, GIF, and TIFF), and several other document types (PDF, webpages, text, Word, Excel, and Powerpoint). If an application does not support the attachment, you can still view it in Quick Look. Quick Look supports several formats, such as .docx, .doc, .htm, .html, .ppt, .pptx and.rtf.

Note: You cannot open a file that is not supported by the applications installed on iPad 2.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN Open the desired email by using Safari or Mail.

DOWNLOADING A PDF To download a PDF:

1. Select the attachment to open it in a new window. 2. Select Open in “” to open the document in iBooks.

1. Select the attachment to open it in a new window. 2. Select and hold down the open document. 3. Select Save Image or Save Video to save the image in the “Camera Roll” album of Photos.

PRINTING iPad 2 uses AirPrint to send printing jobs wirelessly to your computer. It allows you to print from the following applications: Mail, Maps, Notes, iBooks, Safari, Camera, and Photos. You

TRANSFERRING A FILE FROM IPAD 2 TO COMPUTER To transfer a file:

1. Select Devices from the left pane of iTunes. 2. Select iPad 2. 3. Select Apps from the top menu of the right pane of iTunes. 4. Select the desired application from the Apps pane of the File Sharing pane.

MAINTENANCE

OVERVIEW Cleaning iPad 2 and maintaining its battery plays a vital role in increasing its life span. This chapter is divided into two sections: “Maintaining the Battery” and “Cleaning iPad 2”. The section “Maintaining the Battery” describes how to optimize battery life and provides instructions on charging and replacing the battery. The section “Cleaning iPad 2” provides instructions on how to clean iPad 2 without harming its function or appearance.

MAINTAINING THE BATTERY iPad 2 contains an internal rechargeable, lithium-ion battery. The following actions are recommended to optimize battery life and minimize power consumption:

 Decrease screen brightness in low light conditions.  Use downloaded applications less frequently.  Turn off Wi-Fi when you are not using the Internet.  Minimize the use of Location Services.  Lock iPad 2 when you are not using it.  Keep iPad 2 away from extreme temperatures.  Charge the battery to 100%, use it completely, and then re-charge to 100%.

CHARGING BATTERY To charge the battery:

1. Disconnect iPad 2 from all external devices. 2. Turn iPad 2 off. (recommended) 3. Connect iPad 2 to a power outlet by using the Dock Connecter to USB cable and 10W power adapter.

REPLACING BATTERY iPad 2 battery can only be replaced by an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP). This has only a limited number of charge cycles.

CLEANING IPAD 2 iPad 2 screen has an oleaphobic coating that repels oil from sticking on it. Thus, it can only be cleaned by a soft, damp, lint-free cloth.

Note: Do not use aerosol sprays, alcohol, window and household cleaners, and abrasives to clean iPad 2.

To clean iPad 2:

1. Unplug all cables. 2. Turn iPad 2 off. 3. Clean the screen by using the lint-free cloth.

Note: While cleaning iPad 2, avoid getting moisture in openings.
