Find My iPhone/iPad/ iPod touch

DESCRITION:

If you misplace your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac, the iPhone app will let you use another iOS device to find it and protect your data. Simply install this free app on another iOS device, open it, and sign in with your Apple ID. Find My iPhone will help you locate your missing device on a map. You can then choose to display a message or play a sound, remotely lock your device, or erase your data on it.

Please note that Find My iPhone must be enabled in the iCloud settings on your device for you to locate it with this app.

FEATURES: • Locate your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac on a map • Display a message on the screen • Play a sound for two minutes at full volume (even if your device is set to silent) • Remotely lock your device • Remotely wipe your device to erase your personal data

REQUIREMENTS: • iOS 5 or OS X Lion v10.7.2 is required for iCloud users (iOS 3.1.3 or later is required for MobileMe users). • iCloud account (available free with iOS 5 or OS X Lion) or MobileMe account is required. • connection is required. To be located, your iPad with Wi-Fi, iPod touch, or Mac must be connected via a registered Wi-Fi network. Your Mac must also be awake.

Step-by-Step Procedure

7. When you click on name of device in any of view above (“Harvard iPhone” in the example above) you will be able to send a message to your mobile device. You can write a message and display it on your screen. Something like, “Oops, left my iPhone behind. Please call me at 617-555-0198.” Your message appears, even if the screen is locked.

8. Set a passcode lock remotely. Open “Remote Lock”. If you realize that you left your iPhone in a public place, you may want to protect its contents until it’s safely back in your hands. Remotely set a four-digit passcode lock to prevent from using your iPhone, accessing your personal information, or tampering with your settings. 9. If your iPhone contains important and personal information — information you probably don’t want in the hands of a stranger. So if you lose your iPhone and displaying a message on it hasn’t resulted in its safe return, you can initiate a remote wipe to restore it to its factory settings. When you eventually find your iPhone, you can restore the data using your most recent backup from iCloud or iTunes:
